My Home is Up Ahead

Happy New Year Everyone!

I know it's been a long time since I've been here....but ... well ... let's just say issues.....

anyway I've got a new one for ya....actually I have several which I will be posting soon..

this one is a little dark ... sorry ... not intentional .....but the thing is I learned a LOT doing this one....... in fact it's the best I've ever done production wise.....even my girlfreind wanted to listen more than once....which is saying something cause I have a hard time just getting one listen in.....

In it I used:
12 strign gtr live!!
Zebra CM the free synth (I was able to start with a pre set and then modify from there...but I did the playing not drawing in midi on this one)
Rapture for the solo (again a little tweaking of the pre sets...also did the playing and not drawing of midi....although therre was a little clean up )
SD2 (some tweaking of the midi and vel....)
Kore 2 for the Bass ans Sub....again I did the playing and started out with a pre but tweaked as well
3 different electric gtrs....
4 tracks of vox
live shakers
GPO 4 for the horns
 and I think that's it....

The biggest thing I learned was working with my compressor's and Eq's....
I konw that there was a lot of disscussion on Jeff's thread about how to set your compressors but .....I followed it as close as I could and I have to say that it helped me a lot.....so Thank you to Jeff for the article....

I hope you enjoy the work.... I'm just sorry that it has to be in 128 kbps and not a full wav..........
Here is the link

Feel free to let me know what you think.......

****01-05-2011**** Update

For my friend Larry who requested the lyrics to this accident

Verse 1
I was chasing day sun
down Highway 41
when my mind thought of you
and our family too
to earn my day's pay
and keep the wolf away
I keep a steady pace
and a smile on my face

Chorus 1
Our home is up ahead
You'll be waiting there I said
but to my suprise
that's not what met my eyes
the weight was a heavy toll
some one had another goal

verse 2
what had been there
was no longer
they took you, my son
and our daughter
burnt our home
then the land
the days sun fell
it's final stand

chorus 2
Our home is up ahead
you'll be waiting there I said
so I look into my soul
I know my next goal
take revenge, swift and clean
leave no trace of where you've been
it' s not if but when

verse 3
I search for days on end
never giving in
one goal kept in mind
no matter what the time
the path is narrow
but the trail runs cold
as I reach for the next hand hold

chorus 3
Our home is up ahead
you'll be waiting there I said
it's warm under this winter cover
as I feel you hover
the smell of coffee is a drift
I catch it's sent quick
the sun is shinning in my eyes
as I awake to a new sunrise

IMHO It was all a dream!
Clifford

Pretty good. It's been a long time since I heard a song "spoken" and that really works here.

The music sounds good, as does the vox.

Thank you very much sir.....I've been doing that a lot lately.....

I got SSSOOO Lucky on this one..... but I worked very very hard on it......it took me three 12 hour days and four different mixes before I got there......but I was listening in my Pick up today and I think I need to do one more mix....too much sub in it ...at least in my tryck there was ....but easy to fix..

Also for what ever reason I wanted to make the very last electric guitar chord...the one that is held and then slides down to to Pan from right and left right into the center.....kind of like it was being sucked out of the tune...but some how the panning is embedded on both the left and the right and I cannot make it happen....I spent three hours this morning trying and I cannot get it to happen so I just gave up... I have gone back and checked ALL my panning in the tracks, the masters and the busses and everything is where it should be but no dice.....

    Better luck next time.....

but thank you for the listen ...I appreciate it...

    Janet..

Thank you very much......I've been here reading.....but have had a struggle getting to listen to others music cause of my ithernet issues.both here and especially at work....they block everything now a days.......but I'll never leave this forum  ..  it truly is my home.....

I love your new avatar! Very nice.....

Thanks for the listen.....I will be posting a couple of more very soon....I'm doing remixes on them.....trust me each one is very different and each one is so unlike me....they are finished but I am working on tightening up the mixes......

I have tried to put the guitar away for a while and force myself to worte and play on the keyboard which I think is good cause I am very weak at that and it forces me to look for more creative ways to solve things.....

I took a week off of work and did nothing but sit in my studio for 12 to 16 hours a day and work...i got four pieces done and one written composition done....so it was very productive....

but this one just happened....Just so darned lucky
    Thanks

A whole week in your studio?  Wow--that would be so cool!  :-)

And thanks...that picture was my consolation prize.  I wanted a picture of me and my 3 little grandsons...and they all look like they don't want to be in the picture.  lol  So I cropped it.  :-)

    New truck?  :-)

I could only wish........My pick up is 8 years old now.....

the Semi in my avatar I sold in 2003....Man I miss that one.....she was a beauty.....problematic....but a beauty...

No I was speaking of my Ford F150.....she is also a 2003....bought her with the money I got from selling the semi......so that is the only truck I have now.....and she is getting old and tired ....just like her owner!!!!

Now most of my money is tied up in just trying to keep my house....like  most everyone else.....

Any way there is nothing like wishing for a new one eh?   :-)

I was only thinking the other day that there are a few names you just don't see round these parts any more and you were one of the first that sprang to mind. Glad to see you're still alive and kicking !

I liked the tune a lot - reminded me of the kind of thing you'd get at the end of a movie about one of those permanently on the move guys who just kind of live wherever life takes them - the final scene as he takes to the road once again.....

This is a nice mix -  well done !

let's just say that in the last two years life has presented it's challenges!.......but I've never been far away....after all I really do feel that this is my home...especially since I do not or am not able to do any other type of social internet socialization....just do not have the time.....

but I always come to the board and read when ever I could...tried to keep up with everyone's stuff and questions.but could not always sign in or listen as I need to..I am hoping I have rounded the corner and  will be here a lot more often now.....

On the mix......thanks....I've respected your mixes a LOT so coming from you I am humbled....
    so thank you very much.......

I do feel this was a major break thru for me....so yes I was excited......(and still am!)

I have two others I will be posting in side the week......very different than what I am used to writing.....and hopefully they are all at the same level as well....in fact I just remixed / tweaked one of them tonight.....one more listen and maybe tomorrow I can get it up here for a listen..

Thank you very much for the listen my freind

    Peace

Thank you very much.....it was not a planned composition....it just happened.....

I built it around the 12 string part in the begininng...I had that little riff laying around for the better part of a year......the trouble was I had to relearn what I did!  LOL
but it was not too bad cause it was very simple....

so thank you very much for the listen and crit.

Well it's nice to be here.....it always is......Like I've said before this really is home for me...

anyway thank you for listening.....I was wondering about the bass being too low....so I stuck in some sub.....very lightly.....playing the mp3 file on my studio monitors it does not come out that great but in my F-150 Pick up it's powerful.....so I was a little hesitant about bring it up.........

I will have to re address this...thank you for the suggestion and the listen and the crit.

    Hi Cliff,

    Really cool, unusual tune!

    Sort of hypnotic...

I like all those little guitar arpeggios, very nice.

The mix sounds good from here.

Very interesting tune, and really well played.  I loved that 12 string part, and I know what you mean- that's the kind of riff that you write and hang on to, because you just KNOW there's a song in there.  Well, it sounds like you found the song in this one, and it's very cool.  Good story line.

FWIW- I thought the mix you have now is right on the money, and I'd not be making any big changes on it.  Nice job.

I agree....it was just weird how it came about.....I just worked it around that guitar riff and musically it just kind of fell together......

but the Lyrics......I always do my lyrics last.....don't know why and I usually only spend about 45 minutes doing them....never really long....

but this one....well It started out with the first line and that rolled around my head for a few days and then I came up with the idea to try to make it follow a story line.......I spent the next 3.5 hours writing them lyrics......

Just wicked!!!  LOL  so I agree ....it came out strange....very strange but I guess that's what it wanted to be so.....that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Thanks for stopping by listening and leaving the crit.... I appreciate it....

Not my usual cup of tea, but I am on my 2nd listen. First impression is, nice and clean mix. Sounds great on the speakers (JBL LSR4326), no subs though. The low end is rich and without mud. There's an audio artifact @ 2:50 (a seem)? I can confirm to you that your efforts have paid off handsomely. Very good production over all. Bravo!
