ORIGINAL: Hitman thank you, Im going to talk to the Good Ohio native Jim on a new daw, seeing that he's just down I-77/71...hehe. Thanks for testing. one thing i notice.... my 1884 keeps changing the clock to 96 when i usually keep everything at 48... its wordclocked to my lucid 88192 converters and litepiped... don't know its doing.. that.. it doesn't irritate me much, i see the clock light blink and i just readjust it.. it doesn't do it while in nuendo or sonar.. just while using the computer.. so if i go to myspace and here someone music is sounds all Fu**ed up.. but other than that.. the driver works just fine on my vista pc laptop and on my macpro using sonar 7under xp.. though im about to put vista on it

i bypass the 1884 converters since i have lucids and apogee's its wordclocked to the lucid and my outgear goes into the lucid then the signal send through litepipe to the 1884. the 1884 sends the output through litepipe back to the lucid and i monitor through my central station... i keep my setup simple yet powerful and it sounds great... one odd this to report about the driver... i just put vista on my mac pro and its working just fine. just installed the 1884 driver and i hear audio and everything is working... but the firewire light isn't on... its working but the light isn't on.. not that the light doesn't work.. when i plug it up to my xp daw it comes on and nother works if it doesn't come on... just thought it was wierd but its working

ApeKnowledge - what control surface driver are you using in Vista 32? I installed the new drivers (1.60), but the FW1884 doesn't show up as a control surface in the Add Control Surface dialog. If I choose the Mackie control surface, it works kind of - with missing functionality. I was unable to run the 1.22 beta plug in for Sonar in Vista.

I wasn't able to install the 1.22 driver in Vista - when I tried to run the install .exe it popped an error message that the file was unsafe. I've dl'd another copy of the driver today and will try again later. Thanks for letting me know that 1.22 works okay for you - that helps. EDIT: I re-downloaded the 1.22 driver, and this time it worked fine. The original file must have been corrupted. So far, all is working okay although I haven't tested everything yet. I am getting some snaps and crackles and some delay when Play is started despite running on a fairly new computer with solid dual core specs. Additional tweaking is still required.

Hi guys, I have installed the 1.6 driver and can not get it to work properly under Vista 64. If used in ASIO, or with media player, i have a really bad sound quality (some kind of distorted sound). If used in WDM, then I have constant pops, not loud, but still constant. My FW 1884 works fine on Win XP x64 with the x64 drivers vers. 1.5. Any advice on what it could be ? Something additional: I've seen that you're using the 1.22 soft for sonar. When I was about to install it, I've realized it clearly indicates 32 Bit (and not 64); That's why I have installed instead the Sonar x64 1.0 plugin. Is there any benefit with the 1.22 ? Thanks in advance.

Wolverine, I have the same exact problem. I have tried a ton of different firewire cards with different chips and two different motherboards (ASUS P5B Deluxe and Asus P5K-E Wi-Fi). I tried it in 32-bit XP on the same system and using the same firewire port and the 1.60 driver and playback was perfect but in Vista 64 I'm getting that weird distortion/crackling. It is not just a Sonar problem as playback from any source is affected. You can even try just playing Media Player through one of your analog outs and hear it.

Don't you get the feeling that pc's are not the best for DAW work.

I have it working in xp-64 also, but I am running Sonar in 32 bit mode. Everything is fine, but, I cannot access the ASIO panel withing sonar, for instance when I go to the FW-1884 and try to do anything, like adjusting the latency, the FW-1884 panel will not open. I have to go to the Icon on the desktop and do it from there. But, if I switch to WDM, I can access it from within sonar. Why is this??

I was able to solve my problem by turning off the "Memory Remap Feature" in the Chipset section of my ASUS P5K-E motherboard's BIOS. This effectively means I can not utilize more than 3.24gb of RAM under Vista 64, which is one of the main reasons I am using it. I'm not sure what the culprit is but I am leaning towards the FW-1884 driver... Low-latency playback is perfect now, though, and during my troubleshooting process I learned to tweak Vista pretty well and my DPC calls are averaging around 55μs. A new audio interface is on the way, and this time it is one with WaveRT drivers--the Echo Layla 3G.
