Strawbs was a brilliant group which is surprisingly seldom mentioned in threads of this kind.

OK, mine will be 'Bursting at the Seams' and on there I'll go for the part lullaby 'Tears and Pavan'.

And my drum lesson for the day will be to match the claps on the track....  Not too difficult but a worthy timing exercise for the would be drummers here.

'Lay Down' is one of my very favourite songs.

today i'd say it's:

Laura Nyro's Christmas and Beads of Sweat

It's a stunner and doorway to real soul joy.

Strawbs was a brilliant group .
They are still not bad It's worth checking out their latest output - "Dancing to the Devil's Beat" which has Oliver Wakeman filling his fathers old role on keyboards along with old timers Cousins, Lambert, Cronk and Coombs. The 2008 Album "Broken Hearted Bride" was also good. These two albums are their best since Hero and Heroine (IMHO).

There is a lot of 40th anniversary stuff around at the moment including CD/DVD package of songs and stories by Dave Cousins and Rick Wakeman.

Cool!  I had no idea there was anything new from Strawbs.  I always loved their early (and what I thought was pretty much only) stuff.  I could never understand why they weren't universally loved.  I'll definitely be looking into your recommendations, Glyn.

Very hard, but if I had noted down my favorite album ever day for the the past 30 years and talleied up the number of mentions, I am guessing "Grave New World" by the Strawbs would come out on top. (or may be not)

Hero and Heroine
Ghosts

Two albums that I love playing all the time! And that song about Castaneda in Headlines is totally awesome ... outstanding keyboard work and then some.

As a wise Guy once stated from his holy chapala ... none of the hits, none of the time ... prevents you from becoming just another turkey in the middle of all the other turkeys!

That lady in front on that McKeithers sleeve has a hat like my bearskin one.

In fact I think it is my bearskin hat.
