My first real writing collaboration with my son

Well.....and his drummer for the lyric translation.

I created the music bed, wrote some English lyrics and then asked my son to have his drummer (born in Mexico) to translate. Also asked him to develop the melody and sing it.

Oh yeah, daryl1968, psalmist35 and bayoubill really helped to make it all come together.

When he was 16 (he's 41 now) his grandparents asked him waht he wanted to do in life. He said (without hesitation) "Music".

The said, "that's nice but what's your backup plan?".

He said (without hesitation) "I don't have one, music is what I'm going to do".

He works in the music industry as well as still plays in his (occasional touring) band.

    Like this Ed.  Good stuff.

I had the fun and pleasure of "composing" with my two sons when they were young (14 and 10).
Now they are 25 and 20 (turns 21 in Oct).
They didn't wanna do music all their life, but they still come over and listen to me play.

This also gave me a chance to stop by SoundCloud and check out a few more of the coffee house tunes...
    Great stuff here!

    Hi,

Congrats and I will listen to this at home. (Can't do it here!)

This was one thing that was impossible in our house ... I was doing theater and film, and my mom comes up to me and says ... "I'll pay for your schooling, if you take up Portuguese!" ... story of my life ... always the bad/ugly duckling that did not follow the famous father.

Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!
