What matters to me? Well, I appreciate input from folks who feel it was good? Or equally folks who feel it could be improved?  (I really do)

But most importantly to me? As a musician, engineer, "and as a father?"

My son listened? And he smiled "wide.." And said, "good job Dad!"

And THAT is why I did it... I am glad anyone else enjoyed it? Really seriously glad? I am sincerely glad that people enjoyed it? I did it for my son. He likes it :-) I hope he continues to enjoy music? And the process, And that is more important than anything else. I actually cleaned up the mix quite a bit? (I think?) It's an on-going process for us all...

Good stuff Robby & Son. Overall, pretty darn good, the boy's got his Dad's vocal genes . Don't know about the sound of those drums though..boxy...

Sounds well here other then the already observed drums.

Huh? I think I listened to it. Confusin' me I guess~! To me seems like an adult song though to sing for your son.
But done pretty good at that.

I took one more stab at "un-Richarding" the drums. They're popping pretty good now I think, the kick is banging but it does so on the cover. Working on another with him and one without. Really trying to keep him interested in music.

It's getting way better Robbie.  Drums need more balancing (cymbals vs. snare...).  I think you lost the bass guitar somewhere but the mids and top instruments are really nice including the vocals.  The song's lyrics do seem too mature for your son's age but that is your business not mine.  Do you have a picture of him?

Re: My son sings again! :-+ 2014/07/15 20:13:11 (permalink)
I didn't do a good job of thanking everyone individually, it doesn't mean I don't appreciate your input, I really do :-)

I've been mixing on this for a couple of weeks now and I think I have a final. The last one was close, this one has fatter drums, and some other envelopes. I think it's about as good as I can make it.

I am VERY interested in the art of mixing? Therefore, I really appreciate critical input. I try to give the same, but? Please keep in mind any advice I give may be flawed ;-)

Again, presented for your enjoyment, my son sings a song he picked out?

I did everything else and backed him on the vox. I really hope he stays interested in it? I mean, you know "it's my passion..." So I really hope he can follow in the footsteps and be musical. It's work as well all know? So you have to love it. This one took many weeks, and I'm sure could still be much better. What's important is that it's better now than it was? And for that, I give thanks to God and others here, thank you all sincerely.

I accuse people sometimes of having a song mixed by the bass player?

Well, "guilty?" I don't think the azz end is too much in your face (not that there's anything wrong with that?) But I'm sticking it out and shaking it... And the snare was weak, so it's fatter in this version. Again, I could (or we all could) make changes infinitely... My goal is to create something that doesn't suck? And if possible? "Pretty good..."

And finally? I like to b-"rhymes w/itch?" about drummers? But after doing my own drums for many years, I have the highest respect for drummers.. I used to make jokes about them? Now I understand just how important a good drummer is... They are "instrumental" in any good song. Drums are "critically important." I work so hard to make mine not suck. Guys who bang on those things "as their instrument?" Vs. someone like me who tries to emulate them? I have a lot of respect for those dudes...
