The drums suck? I know... I'm waiting on a disk from a resurfacing company tomorrow. And there are some other little parts I could improve? But I did it/for/with "him" :-) And he really enjoyed it! He's a good boy...

It is a memory I will have with my son? That no one can take away... And that makes me tear up a bit... I don't really give a rats ass what anyone else thiinks really? I'm just really glad I could do this with my son. If you have a son? You know how I feel... (****ing crying now...)

mix sounds GLORIOUS, TB. is the backing track a cover or the actual instrumental? He did a great performance as well!

Thanks Rimmy, I also took the occasion to show him how to play it on the keys, and he loves it! Now I need to ask him what he wants to do next. It was fun showing him the process too, recording and mixing and the FX, panning and busing, etc.. He seemed really interested, but I can't get him to sit and work on something for more than about 10 minutes. He gets some musical ability from his mother as well so I'm hopeful he'll develop it.

There is no greater learning experience than to have a teacher that gives their all to the student. I thought the vocal had something really special to it. There is great singer coming on there. Very well done.

Re: My son sings again! :-+ 2014/07/01 22:02:01 (permalink)
I remixed it using some of the new mid/side trickery I am attempting to learn/master?

Here's a pic of the sexy wav?

That photo gives me stiff nipples...

And there's a new version of the tune up? Basically I changed everything? I set Ozone to M/S? And did some EQ, some MB Compression?  Some Excitation (she's given me good vibrations?) I tried to add some punch to the drums? (and bass) The drums feel a little off in places? It's because I couldn't build a tempo map? So the whole song is basically a live performance? Because I couldn't lock it to anything. I hope I didn't screw it up. If I did, I can recover the last mix. Please be honest, I would rather here truthful harsh crits if they are warranted. I'm not the best mixer, but I am trying to get better at it!

I'm also trying a new plug in the master chain (on the cheap) from Brainworx? It's called Brainworx control. It helps with all of that mid/side voodoo... I'm still learning about it all? So again, things "may" need improvement? I'm really trying to learn about the mixing aspect. I think I have it at least close (hoping I do)

My goal is to make the mix wide and PHAT! With everything sitting "where it should?" And things playing nicely together? It's what we all strive for...

Some folks here are just so darn good at it (They are evil and they must be destroyed. I suspect some sort of a contract with "you know who?")

Mr. No999, indeed :-) I asked him what he wants to do next and he said "I don't know" He doesn't understand that his input is like 2%? :-) But I asked him to think about it. I definitely did all of the BGV. I had to cup some things tightly to sing that high?

I am REALLY hoping I didn't screw it up, I'm not comfortable with this whole M/S technique? And this is my 1st try at it. If it's "Richarded up" in any way, I hope one of the mix masters speaks up.

I appreciate that. I'm hopeful that he says interested, it's difficult in today's society for a young boy with all of the distractions. And let's face it? This stuff takes WORK! :-) I have him thinking about what to try next

Really interested in comments about the mix. Thanks! I'm probably going to do some more mix mods (at least once) as it feels a little high heavy to me yet. But I'm using different tools and techniques here, so I'm learning.

Remix 2, Independence day? I did too much to cover... Lots of envelopes, panning and EQ and some MB compression? (wanted the drums and bass to sit better)  I redid the drums to fit better tempo wise, and helped them sit better in the mix? So many other things... I think it's a better mix? Maybe even pretty good. My goal is to be better at this shiz... (the mixing)

Lots w/Ozone5 as well. We can always improve...

No, I listened again and it's not really that close :-( I hear many more things that need to be tweaked. Please refrain from comments on the current mix, I'll put up a new one next week with more work on it on my part. For everyone who's commented so far, thank you, it will be back and better next week. Happy Independence Day!! Except for those in Great Britain, in which case I say, it looks like you Britain off more than you could chew with us colonists?   To us a crown is something that goes on your tooth...

Hey, not too shabby for an 11 year old!

Mix-wise I think it's OK, but the drums do sound like they're stuck in the "no highs" riff that leads into the choruses on the original version.  IOW, the high end should kick in more when the instruments come on.

I fixed some of the timing issues with the drums, they're still not perfect, but they are much better. I also added some punch to that kick and incorporated some of the suggestions :-) He's picked a new one to keep me busy

I ordered some new cans last week and they came in today! Ultrascone 900s... They really helped me hear and hopefully clean up some of the bottom end which when I listened on the new cans was a mess... I mix in the cans, so good ones are a must.

Hey, Robbaaaaaaaaaay!!!

How's it going, bro, hope you're doing great!

Excellent work on this cool cover with your son, the kid is a real chip off the old block, and you should be VERY proud of him!

He's also very lucky to have such a talented father to record with and learn from.  You boys are making memories that will last a lifetime and having a lot of fun in the process.

Super job guys, great work by both of you!

It's the final mix.  I hope you all enjoy it?   (headphone mix btw?)

There are some who will and some who won't? If they've been waiting for the final mix? And I'm pretty sure they haven't? Well I have it about as good as I can get it? Which the boy and I think is pretty darn good?  It takes several tries as you know? To get something worthy? It's work...

I'm sure it could be better? Quite sure based on what I've learned thus far?  But it's not half bad? At the top, Demons.

https://soundcloud.com/rockinrobby

The boy makes me proud? And I hope when he looks back at it? He feels the same way...

I'll thank all of those who took the time to comment individually. Thanks to all who take the time to do so, many do not? So for those who do? I am especially thankful.

As for the rest of you? Jesus loves you? And I'm trying...
