Beep, I DL'd via CCC (cause it works well for me), then drug the files into my How to Videos file on a different drive. Double clicked on the first vid and it opened WMP and away it went. I wanted them to play one after the other, so I copied all the videos into a single folder, then hi-lighted them all, double clicked the first one and they all played continuously via WMP. Easy, peasy.

I keep having trouble getting it from Command Center - it shows a toaster pop up message telling me there was a failure. I tried it twice more, with the same results. Is there another way to get these downloaded? Bob Bone

I went to the store and generated a download link, and am in the process of downloading it from there,so I guess I am OK. I hope Command Center gets some polish in the months to come. I DO like the idea of it. Bob Bone

Hi Bob, I always copy the files direct from my account. It allows the parallel download of multiple files so does it much quicker. I download direct into the Command centre/Downloads folder then use CCC to run the installer. I know in this case it's only one file but nonetheless I too don't always have success using the CCC as a download manager.

Nice videos guys. But just like most of the other Cakewalk tutorials, I'm just wondering why no one bothered to just put a hi-pass filter on the voice over. That popping is really irritating and, dare I say, unprofessional. Thanks for the content though!

Nice tutorial. Interesting and informative for someone that usually only uses two overheads (sometimes only one), a kick mic, and one mic between the snare and HH. I can see it's going to take a while for me to get to grips with the Drum Replacer and a workflow for it. I don't think it's something I will use a lot (I could be wrong) but it's going to be awesome when it is.

@ Bob Bone When I first used CCC I got a failure message that wasn't true. When I looked the install had gone through and was correct. So maybe it has to do with closing itself or ..... ?? It's been working since that time, for me. Michael

Okay, cool. Thanks. If you managed to snag them that way VIA CCC then I'm guessing I SHOULD be able to just see a lonesome little video file (or set of video files) waiting in my account for dl'ing. I'm currently in thrasher mode (seriously my fingers are vibrating as I type this) so I'm probably not logging in today. Even still if the "offline" dl'ing part turns into mayhem at least it sounds like the files will be easily transportable/viewable. Thanks again.

I just logged into my account through the website and looked under my products. The download link was there. After downloading I double clicked on the installer and let it do its thing. I looked in the start menu, but nothing was there, so I took a look in "c:\cakewalk content" and there was a folder there for the video (mp4) files. I just double clicked on it and Windows media player started and played it fine. (I'm on Win7)

See this is what's confusing me with some of the posts about this (well one thing). Why is there an installer for a video file? It's not a program... it's a video file. Normal you just "extract/unzip" the compressed folder and bingo bango... you have your vid files. Is it actually an exe? And if so what exactly is it installing? Seems weird. Maybe a mini program to verify that Splat is installed? If so that's a little... erm... wacky.

Well, despite compression of mp4 being minimal (on an individual basis), ~100MB of 2.6GB, it is compressed as RAR and the .exe handles extraction/uncompression without the need of third party tools. Not that I'm concerned (and do appreciate the freebie and have enough space) there are a couple of considerations: - the installer, on this occasion, does not provide an option to define the resultant directory - it goes to Cakewalk Content - ~3 times the space is required for installation: -- the downloaded installer -- the temporary extraction files (auto cleaned after install) -- the resultant destination Yes, it could also be flagging an install status e.g. so CCC is 'aware' - dunno(?)

Some larger compressed downloads are done as SFX files and are executables ending with .exe. They are self extracting archives. It's done in case the recipient doesn't have the program to decompress the archive.

I really LOVE this tutorial. Nicely produced material and the explanation of each step makes perfect sense. I watch a lot of tutorials both free and paid for. While they are all useful, most of them are using Pro Tools as the DAW and third party plugins. I am happy to see Sonar flexing it's muscle with the INCLUDED plugins. Finally Sonar gets the love it deserves! BTW... I hope that we get additional tutorials showing the mixing techniques of the other elements: bass, guitar, vocals, etc. Also, if we can get the session file (bundle), that would be awesome!!! Thanks Cake

Thanks. Now that I think back that explains a few things in regards to various large/bulk downloads I've dealt with in the past. Never quite understood why Microsoft doesn't include tools to uncompress some of these common formats but perhaps there are patent issues and they don't want to pay. But they do have some kind of extracting thingie. Now I'm all curious what the differences/reasons are for all that. I did read up a little on RAR a while ago due to a specific set of files that needed me to install WinRAR. I guess I'm a little spoiled because I've only been doing computer stuff for less than a decade and a lot of these proprietary format/compatibility issues have faded (everything is becoming more homogenous and user friendly). I guess it really wasn't all that long ago you needed to acquire specific programs to perform what now are now considered very basic tasks. That's kind of part of the reason I didn't even bother with computers for so long. More trouble and expense than they were worth to me. They still peeve me off but at least they have crossed the threshold of "annoyance/effort vs. benefit". /ramble

Great tutorial! I learned a ton. Question on the time alignment part, I would have thought it would much easier to delete the audio highlighted rather than use it to determine delay and then delay all of the tracks. Any thoughts or is this just another way to skin the cat?

I thought that too. And by making the time alignments part of the tracks, rather than a processing, wouldn't this make edits to multiple tracks less likely to cut off a transient.

What a fantastic tutorial. THIS is the type of content CAkewalk needs to get out there consistently! Imagine the number of "other daw" users who would switch over if they could finally see just how incredible Sonar really is. Cakwalk, please consider smaller videos more often with just a great and relevant content, and plaster it all over the Internet. People need to know that Sonar isn't a "Toy" daw.
