[NOT FULLY SOLVED See POST #27] My first (EVER) consistent motor boating in X3
Update: Problem solved. See posts # 16 & 26Update: Not entirely solved. See post #27 I have a project from X2a that was completed and still plays accurately today (in X2) In X3a when I open any VST (track or bus) and NOT EVEN make any changes without the transport running voila - motor boating Happens every time. Close the project and reopen, still happens. Shut down SONAR and reopen, still happens. Gonna reboot the machine now and see. SONAR crashed after shutdown/power up when trying to simply open the project. MiniDump sent. RME Fireface UFX interface in ASIO mode set to 1024 buffers SONAR X64 WIN 7 X64 UAD 7.1 (without LA-2A family auth) FWIW: On the tracks I have (in the way of VSTs): Slate VCC (on every track) 32bit drumagog (kick and snare) Sonitus Compressor (2 instances) FabFilter Limiter (about 8 instances on spearate tracks) Bass Rider UAD LA2A CLA Vocal (4 instances on separate tracks) VX-64 Valhalla Room On the buses I have: Slate VCC (on every bus) FabFilter Compressor UAD 1176 ToonTrack EZMix (Bass Chorus) UAD LIttle Labs VOG T-Racks CSR Room

Are you sure you're not lying about the amount of VSTs you have running?

Well some have multiple instances that I may not have reported accurately.

Nope. I did not uninstall any plugs. No SONAR reported missing plugs when the project is opened.

Now the project will only open if I use safe mode and exclude all plugs. The bummer is that I can open this project in X2 with no problems and it plays just fine. FWIW, I used the "migrate" settings options when I installed X3.

BTW, one other recent X2 WIP project opens in X3 and plays fine. However there are fewer plugs in that project.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. I'm gonna keep an eye out on this thread as I plan on updating to X3 very soon... and many of my projects use a lot of plugins including some that you have listed here. Thanks for keeping us posted!

I wonder if you go into Preferences>File>VST Settings and uncheck "Replace VST2 Plugins when opening projects" it might solve the problem.

Hmmmmmmmm. Another project that uses a mear equal amount of plugs opens and plays just fine. I'm going to have to either a)wait and see if CW finds something in the MiniDump b)keep trying to open in safe mode slowly layering what plugs I load in that project.

This "fix" has been suggested a lot in the last couple of days, but it's worth repeating.... Did you rescan your plugins after the upgrade?

OK, I think I have it sussed. It's UAD plugs. If I exclude them while loading in safe mode the project does NOT crash SONAR nor do I get motor boating if I open a VST or do an edit. I had no reason (until now) to go to Rev 7 from UAD but I will load that later tonight and see if it truly solves the problem.

Thanks for the update, Bapu. I'm gonna flag my UAD plugs temporarily in existing X2 projects until we get any further information.

Some questions. - Does it immediately crash when you load the project or do you hear the noise with no crash. - Please list the CWBRN number. (BTW in general when talking about an issue that is logged always reference the bug number, otherwise we have no easy way of correlating it with this thread) - Do an experiment - copy just the project file to a new folder and load that file (with missing audio) in X3. If the crash still occurs, attach the file to your bug report. - what are specific versions and names of the UAD plugins involved? What specific UAD hardware do you have and what version? - SONAR X64 or X86, - 64 bit OS or 32 bit - UAD hardware version, driver version etc - Try and isolate if it is a single UAD plugin causing the crash. i.e. skip loading all but one UAD plugin and retry

Noel, I am not at the DAW for the next six hours but I will address your suggested tests before the night is out. The project only opened twice today when I got the noise with no crash. After that I was unable to open project without excluding all UAD plugs (1176 newer version, LA-2A, Helios maybe one more). And then, I could not reproduce the noise. Specs: SONAR X64, WIN 7 64bit, UAD Ver 5 or 6 (I cannot recall which) on two UAD Quad cards.

Slow down, remember I'm at least one rev behind on the UAD plugs (maybe even 2). We'll know in about 5 hours if the problem is related to that scenario.

Bad News. Since I did not upgrade the UAD LA-2A to the LA-2A series when I open this project I am now informed (after updating to 7.1) that the LA-2A is not installed. So far so good. But..... when I try to delete it from the track SONAR crashes. So now I'm begining to think the original problem was tied to the existance of the (original) LA-2A in the project. I submitted the mini dump and got assigned CWBRN-19986.

Ed, I'm getting this problem, too. I opened a project from X2 in X3, and merely added 3 instances of the the new PC tape emulator to the project. The only other plug in in the song is Guitar Rig 4 LE. All other plugs are native Sonar plugs. After the project is open for a while it just starts motorboating while at rest. This has never happened to me in any version of Sonar going all the way back to the beginning of Sonar. I'll be watching for a solution.
