That and what my dad told me when I was just a little kid, "hit um in the nose and make the blood and the snot fly!" That plays in to the attitude as well? You hit someone hard in the nose, and it tends to take most of the fight out of them. It helps to have that in the back of your mind when singing. Yes, he was a violent man? But he was in Africa fighting the Nazis when he was 17... So I gave him a pass, he was a good man, part of "The Greatest Generation." Both him and my mother. We've grown soft and fat IMO... I say HIT UM IN THE NOSE AND MAKE THE BLOOD AND SNOT FLY!!! Hit um in the f'ing nose, "hard!" Hit them "hard..." BOOM!

Well the boy heard it on his iPad and was unimpressed

I told him he may just need good phones like I have in the studio. To his credit, he said I do other things well?  So all I have to say to him is "you'd better bring the performance buddy..."

Geez Robby, is there any style you can't sing?
Vocals are top notch on this, and the arrangement is killer. Nice dynamics, especially after the "clapping" part at the end.
The mix does sound a bit "distant" to me, but like you said it's still a work in progress, it will be interesting to listen to this one evolve.
Great job!

Good times :-) Thanks so much everyone for what you've said about my effort on this. The boy will sing it this week/weekend and I'll yank my version. It was fun to try this one. With his tacit approval of my effort, I told him "I'm going to be Simon Cowell when he does his take... I'm going to **DEMAND** perfection!!! :-) I may try a bluegrass tune next just to throw a curve ball? (or maybe a knuckle ball.) I have a few in mind.

People wonder about how to sing with such conviction and emotion?

Ok, listen up... Here's my secret?

You have to sing it like you believe you have the biggest "Richard..." in the room? It's all about attitude? So that's how I do it.
So as long as your noggin believes the lies you've told about your Richard? You're in good shape.

I won't argue with you there Robbie , I have certainly done that myself at times when l play the guitar …
it takes what it takes ….right Bro

fwiw…I've got a long ways to go when it comes to what I'm about to say ...

I wonder what would happen if we took it above the belt and used the biggest Heart in the room instead of the ole Richard …..this is not a judgment btw…it still takes a set of gonads to let go and make that leap ….
if I can get the old noggin to go there I might be able to reach some people ...

nice rapping with you

Kenny

Sounds pretty good to me.  The drums in particular still sound a little "back of the room" but the vocals are really good - wish I had that range and control!   My daughter is a big IDs fan so I've heard this many times (as well as most others).    One of the few "new" bands that I actually like.

WHAT? That beautiful girl playing the fiddle was/is only 14!!?? I'm sorry sir, she appeared to be in her early 20s... I don't envy you. The azz kickings you'll need to administer? You'll need to beat people about their head and shoulders, and then move on to their Prell. Again, my sincere apologies. I try not to be creepy? Or at least to disguise my creepiness? I don't want to be "in your face creepy?" I'm sure you are very proud, she's very beautiful, and very talented. VERY talented.

Tasty.
It will be interesting to hear the boy sing it.
I might like to hear just a touch more air on the lead vocal, but that's somewhat discretionary.

Lynn
When doing a cover song it's important to choose the right song to fit one's voice and style.  You hit a homerun with this song.  I wasn't familiar with this, so I looked it up on YouTube.  What a gem!  I, then, went back to your version with greater understanding.  This song was made for you, and it will be interesting to hear how you produce your son singing this.  I'm sure it will be a success.  Thank you for introducing me to a band that I will enjoy, and for your hard work.

Lynn, thank you sir, I am a fan of your stuff too. I like to think of myself as a chameleon... I like to lay down over tracks and take on their color? I think I'm going to do a bluegrass tune next! :-) Your compliment is high praise and you get what I'm going for :-) Which again, is to be a chameleon. Thanks for your kind words.

Really good singing Robbbbie. Everything seems to be played and recorded well. For me the whole mix sounds a little distant and small. Look forward to hearing your boy on it (great job on the last one)

Gus! Thanks so much, I enjoy your singing as well :-) From one singer to another? Thank you sir! And thanks for your comments on the mix, it's gotten much better based in large part on your input, so I "really" value people with good ears, who make good suggestions. Thanks again! :-)

Wow... I am so struck by the fact that people with so much talent, who I admire, express support for what I do. I am seriously humbled (and that's not easy) when someone as talented as yourself, expresses interest and approval for what I do. It is my passion, I would do it for myself even if no one else listened or enjoyed it... But I'm pretty sure that's how most of us feel. Thank you SO MUCH! Robby --- I'm not familiar with the Imagine Dragons.  I think that they are too current for an old cat like me?!??!  I have to admit that I do like what you have done here.  I echo Kenny in that I always appreciate the emotion that you put into your vocals and harmonies.  You really excel in this area.
I look forward to the little Robby participating in this number (he did a great job on the last number).  It sounds that you really enjoy the time that you get to spend with your son.  That's great.  Even though my boy has grown up, I always treasure the time that I get to spend with him.

Freddaaaaaay! A chicken to the bone is a chicken right on!!

You should check out the Dragons, they rule... My son introduced me to them? I do cherish our time :-) I got him to sing it this past weekend, I'm about to put it up. He makes me very proud :-) Thanks so much for listening and for commenting. From someone who answers the question? Can blue men sing the whites! I believe you would be celebrated even in Furguson MS.

Kenny and Rimmy, yes, I feel you have to believe in yourself, or no one else will... I believe we should all approach everything in life that way? Not overconfidence? But a belief in ones self. If you don't believe it? No one else will... Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm trying to teach the boy to play the guitar, and to sing, and believe in himself. And not to take crap off of bullies... I tell him, "it's fun to pick on you? Until it's not..."
