New Dragons tune Remix4 8-17-14

**8-15, my colab partner Mark commented privately that the mando could be a bit wider and moister, so I tweaked it and uploaded remix1. **Also, per Robert's recommendation, I went back and eq'ed the LV some and put an exciter on them, and a transient shaper.
---------------------------
**8/16 after an emergency maintenance call that went till 5:00 this AM, I slept in and since I've been tweaking the vocals pretty much all day. I think they sound better.

I think they're dialed in, but I rely on people who say "good start?" And others who give "even more input!" Thank you all ;-)
---------------------------
**8-17, dialed back the vox a bit... Some other changes, but it sounds pretty good to me? But hey! I give thanks to all who listen and comment :-) In the end? I'm working to impress the boy? If some of you like it as well? It makes me smile that much more :-)

**8-17, remix 4, pulled the room back a little per advice from Gus (thanks!)
--------------------------------------------
The boy will sing this ultimately? I've been working on it for a few weeks, tonight I took a quick stab at the LV? It's not edited, and may have a slightly raw quality? I'm hoping it's not like raw meat, that has sat out for too long...

I'm interested in comments on the mix. I'm trying to get mow betta at it...

https://soundcloud.com/rockinrobby/its-time-dragons-cover

I'll get the boy next week, and he's going to sing it? So this is a "pre-post..." There's a lot going on here? The percussion... There's like heal clicks, box hits, block hits, claps, lots going on... And a lot going on with the drums, and synths. I'm playing with an ebow there at the end :-) A mandolin, lots going on throughout. The bottom is "huge..." Which is how I like um? The vocal performance was "ad-hoc." But I'm doing all of the instruments, it was non-trivial... Again, there's a lot going on here. I'll post the boy doing it in another week or so.

Oh, and I'm playin the fretless :-) I love that bass man... It's like butter.

I realize I'm no BAPU... But I try.

I do enjoy a big bottom, did I mention this? :-)

The bigger the better... And the dragons always spank, "appreciate" the bottom? So I try to emulate the spankage...

Tasty.
It will be interesting to hear the boy sing it.
I might like to hear just a touch more air on the lead vocal, but that's somewhat discretionary.

When doing a cover song it's important to choose the right song to fit one's voice and style.  You hit a homerun with this song.  I wasn't familiar with this, so I looked it up on YouTube.  What a gem!  I, then, went back to your version with greater understanding.  This song was made for you, and it will be interesting to hear how you produce your son singing this.  I'm sure it will be a success.  Thank you for introducing me to a band that I will enjoy, and for your hard work.

All the best,
Lynn

I think it'd dialed in pretty good now :-) Many tweaks? Cranked the vox down... As the singer? One must be careful not to let the vox overwhelm... Everyone will be thanked in line. Also? Please do not forget? This is the pre-quil? The boy will own this better than did I, "if that is possible?" And I believe it is :-)

I think it's as good as I can make it :-)

I like the change. It's subtle, but it made the difference from sounding somewhat confined to having a nice expansion to it.

Really good singing Robbbbie. Everything seems to be played and recorded well. For me the whole mix sounds a little distant and small. Look forward to hearing your boy on it (great job on the last one)

Hi Robbie ,  I'm always struck by the fact that every time I listen to a song you post I find your voice has a lot of character and Mojo  . I really dig the way you sing

Thanks Lynn! I would not have chosen this, but I'm working with the boy to get him interested in music. He's actually pretty talented, but you can't push them... Or they'll push back? So I know Imagine Dragons is one of his favorite bands, he also really likes Maroon 5? So after we finished the last dragons tune that he sang, I said what's another one that you think you could sing that you really like? And he picked this one :-) I'll get him later this week through the weekend and he's going to sing it. And he's learning (finally!) to play the guitar? I got him a 3/4 scale strat when he was just little. And he's monkeyed around with it, but never been serious about it. So now he's learning chords :-) I told him all you really need is 3! :-) I can't wait to get his version recorded and posted. I appreciate that you took time to listen, and commented so kindly, the dragons are a great modern pop band! I took him to his first big concert this year to see them in Atlanta, good times :-) He's such a good boy and the only reason I have to roll out of bed in the morning. Probably 30,000+ people at this concert? and I paid good money for my "two tickets?" They made "millions and millions" in this one night...

Robby --- I'm not familiar with the Imagine Dragons.  I think that they are too current for an old cat like me?!??!  I have to admit that I do like what you have done here.  I echo Kenny in that I always appreciate the emotion that you put into your vocals and harmonies.  You really excel in this area.
I look forward to the little Robby participating in this number (he did a great job on the last number).  It sounds that you really enjoy the time that you get to spend with your son.  That's great.  Even though my boy has grown up, I always treasure the time that I get to spend with him.

gTo all who have commented, I really appreciate your input and will indeed thank you individually as well.

People wonder about how to sing with such conviction and emotion?

Ok, listen up... Here's my secret?

You have to sing it like you believe you have the biggest "Richard..." in the room? It's all about attitude? So that's how I do it. Fortunately for me? I'm the only one in the room? So it's always true!  and THAT is my secret... I'll guarantee you it's the biggest in the room! LOL!

If anyone else was there, the performance may be lacking... (spies the bulge of that person in the corner and sings off key) I'd still actually put money on it in a competition? It's impressive.

I tell people singing is about 90% up here (points at noggin)

About 6% down here (points at diaphragm)

And about 4% from here (points at throat)

So as long as your noggin believes the lies you've told about your Richard? You're in good shape. (how he ever had a career with the name "Little Richard?" I'll never understand...)

That and what my dad told me when I was just a little kid, "hit um in the nose and make the blood and the snot fly!" That plays in to the attitude as well? You hit someone hard in the nose, and it tends to take most of the fight out of them. It helps to have that in the back of your mind when singing.
