New PSP Reverb

New reverb from PSP!

http://pspaudioware.com/plugins/reverbs/psp_2445/

PSP 2445 is a reverb processor plug-in (VST, AAX and RTAS for Windows; AudioUnit, VST, AAX and RTAS for Mac OSX) inspired by two legendary early digital age reverberators: the EMT® 244 and the EMT® 245. PSP thoroughly researched how to bring the specific features of those simple, yet very musical sounding reverbs to life as a plug-in. We then improved from the originals with a handy set of parameters to control details of the sound and mix the reverb not available in the original hardware. The PSP 2445 is capable of processing using one selected engine or both of them simultaneously.

Peace!

I haven't tried it yet. I'm afraid of the usual pattern:
1. I convince myself I don't need another compressor, reverb, EQ, etc.
2. I tell myself, I guess I can download the demo and check it out
3. The demo sounds awesome!
4. It's on sale, it's a no-brainer.. Why not grab it?

Peace!

Re: New PSP Reverb 2015/12/29 21:14:44 (permalink)
Yep, exactly the problem...

Just regained enough modest cash flow to get Valhalla plate and upgrade Reverberate. Put me back about $90. Great units, but buyer's remorse setting in since a year ago I was beyond needing any another reverb in this life. Already had excess reverb units that would cover any and every application needed. Now I got two more, and in retrospect the overall balance has me $90 down with no rational benefit.

Have it on faith that the PSP reverb is a killer machine, but saving myself some grief by not downloading the demo. Feeding the family a greater priority because I know I'll cave in finding a niche.

Please, nobody come up with a new echo box. I can't remotely use or understand the ones I already got.

You're right Bapu! I broke down and bought it. I got it for $68 since I have some other PSP plugins. I haven't installed it yet, but I'll let you all know my opinion once I get a chance to try it. Being PSP, I'm sure it's gonna sound great.

Wow, you got a good deal! It's really cool of them to discount the price like that. Not many companies do that. Another reason I like PSP. Plus they just make great sounding plugs.

Made the classic mistake of downloading the demo. This reverb excels as a wash on all of the tracks. I had Breverb in that role but this PSP reverb has so much more depth and character.  I can really add a lot more reverb without it getting muddy. PSP always puts out classy, high quality products and in this case, they didn't disappoint! Based on prior purchases, I can pick it up for $68.37.. Hmm..?

Peace!

Yep, that's what mine cost, too. Glad to hear a positive review of what it sounds like, although I knew it would sound good. I can't wait until I get home from work tonight, so I can install it.

I don't have Valhalla Plate. The Valhalla reverbs sound terrific but in my opinion don't sit quite well in the mix. They may be too rich? Again, this is my personal opinion. What the heck do I know?!

This PSP reverb seems to just fit into the overall sonic landscape. Maybe this is the EMT reverb magic I keep hearing about? In any case, I pulled the trigger and bought it! Woo! Hoo!

Just got it installed and have been messing with it for about an hour. Really diggin it. I definitely recognized the sound. It reminds me of a hardware digital reverb that I bought 20 some years ago. The sounds I'm getting out of this are sounds I used to get out of that, and haven't been able to recreate with any of the plugins that I have. I've missed that sound. So glad I bought this. It's gonna get a lot of use.

My issue is I still have a zillion of those reverbs, and you can still grab them cheap, if you're on the lookout.  But I'm too lazy to use the external insert, when my software blows them away.

Re: New PSP Reverb 2016/01/01 01:12:17 (permalink)
Will probably be bashed to the pit for blasphemy...and maybe just my burned out ears, but A/B test with several reverbs failed to get the plastic card vibrating.

Have several PSP plugins that have their without equal niche. The new reverb is excellent.

Have Valhalla plate and the other Valhalla plugs. Was easy to duplicate and excel the PSP unit with the Valhalla plugs, and others even freeware, both in depth and velvet texture of the decay. Granted a nice tail on PSP, but unless I'm using a solo instrument with a 4 second decay, reverb is a mute effect.

Meaning that the subtle tail several seconds into the decay is lost subliminal in any music production other than a spread out solo instrument, which can be easily achieved by a convolution engine.

Second opinion... The shorter the tail, the more a reverb specificity is a non entity. Cutting time frames down to practical, where is the advantage over many units each of us probably own already to excess.

Was a bit disappointed by the lack of eq control over the wet signal. Sensed a bit of granularity in the unit as well that I couldn't factor out.

Was kicked in the teeth by months of no income, though the bills never stopped. Put a quick stop on my GAS habit, hardcore truth that my family could not eat a hundred dollar plug. Got me third world disciplined out of necessity, and in retrospect, thank Lord Shiva for the harsh lesson.

PSP unit is excellent as are all of their plugins. Just can't find a reason to sacrifice a bag of rice for the purchase when I have an arsenal of unused units that can do the same thing and better in many cases..

Open to the hi probability that I'm clueless and missing something in the bigger picture. Wouldn't be the first time. If needed, PSP reverb is well worth the purchase price. Excellent reverb.

I must say that some stuff john said are true , but i wanna add some ...

He s totally right whennhe says its easily lost in the mix witchi don t find a problem , on the contrary , this reverb , is not a reverb , but take it as a space creator , exellent to place sounds in 3d field , and add depth to mixes .....

At least this is how i see it .....

Well ... it is exactlly the typeof reverb i will tell my students to consider ...it s safe , never vulgarus ... and does thing without killing a mixing with that fog some reverb have ....  it s also super quik to tweak ....witch is amways aplus ...you compared it to vahalla stuff witch is the other type of reverb i validated for students , swiss knife for real , stable, cheap , serious and no gimmik ....
When i remeber the joke when the relab 480 release at 399 intro price buggy as hell for years ... its another era we reliving today ....for real

John, I don't know if you opened the control panel at the bottom, but there's a HPF control and also a low and hi frequency control. Maybe you were looking for even more control IDK. I totally respect your opinion, I was just throwing that out there.

PSP plugs I find are some that seem to work really well in a given situation, and then don't shine as well in others.

Case in point, I use the NobleC EQ on some vocals to try it out and fell in love with it. Tried it on a rythym guitar and had to tweak more that I thought I would, but finally found something I liked, but it didn't shine like I thought it would. However, when I turned the NobleC EQ off, that's when I realized what it really had done. It did much more to help that guitar sit in the mix than I originally thought.

I have the PSP Oldtimer Comp and it works pretty much the same for me. Sometimes it really just shines as soon as I stick it on something. Other times it takes some tweaking.

I am really happy with PSP products. I just got Waves Gold bundle. And I also got about three to four new PSP plugs. I am more excited about trying the PSP plugs than the Waves plugs. : )
