It is mostly real instruments...the flute is from Dimension LE, but I did use a real pitch wheel on it..

That's kinda refreshing too.... Next time I do guitars I won't feel such a complete lunatic using a PC joystick as a whammy bar...

Larry and team...

Loved this. Larry, the experimentation that you PM'd me about is yielding some nice work here. Wow...a lovely feel to this. Say, that cymbal-like sound towards the end (in the right channel) that is very loosely timed...is that timing intentional? It wasn't a bad thing, but it did stand out for me.

Well done, all!

Tom - Many thanks bubba!! If James keeps his mixes this good, he'll quit his day-job!

robby - Thank you! I guess we've been influenced by a variety of styles over the years.

Tom (tyde) - Great description! LOL! We appreciate the listen and comments.

Ed - Always a pleasure to have you stop in!! Unusual is what we wanted for sure! Various meters and syncopations, and a whole lot of weirdness to boot! LOL! From a technical standpoint..this wasn't the easiest to perform. Take after take after take... James' made it a lot more cohesive than what it was originally. Now that you mentioned the acoustic recording..I'm thinking of getting one more mic to set up in the room and use it as a ambience mic very subtley and see if it gives it a fuller sound..

Sheesh guys, kinda at a loss for words on this one, but I'll try. First of all, great mix. Everything is crystal clear and well defined. Instruments performed beautifully. This song moves, no, ebbs and flows, so nicely. Fantastic work.

Larry, I just wanted to tell you, that your sense of musical adventurism shines through on this. You obviously aren't afraid to try different melodic structures, tempos, and instrumental choices, and you hit the mark more often than anyone I know. The time you've put in working on your acoustic playing is really shining through lately. I just felt like telling you this my friend.

James, how hard do you have to blow on that pitchwheel to get that flute to sound this nice?

Thank you Randy, comments like that really hit the spot, you cheered me up after a crap day.

You ain't kidding..when Larry sent me this piece it took me a couple of hours to realize what was going on - 7/4, 5/4, 4/4, and back again..phew.

James, how hard do you have to blow on that pitchwheel to get that flute to sound this nice?

Great stuff. The bass intro sounds just a bit loose with the timing. Could just be my pain pills, had the arm repaired yesterday.

Mark- The bass is loose like the screws in my head. A perfect match. Well, at least you liked the song. It looks like the surgery went well? Easy on the pain pills..you don't want to be fallin' down and break the other arm. Hope you're healing up fast man.

Hurts like the dickens. I'm having to type everything left handed. Not sure when I'll get to play guitar again, but the fingers still move, so that is a very good sign.

Larry;
Haven't read the other comments, so sorry if I repeat what's been said. This song has great tone and variety. I'm entranced by the clarity of each instrument. I compare it to my stuff, and I don't know how you get each instrument to sparkle so clearly. I would guess the differences are high quality instruments and equipment, for one thing; but more so, the professional-level skill by your group in the set up, execution, mix and mastering. Anyway, I enjoyed this tune a lot.

Very ambitious theme, depicting movement in ALL its forms . But then you start out with a panned effect that immediately suggest width, space. The manner in which you place your subsequent instruments lends itself to that same impression. Thematic development features a lot of variety. James, you've long been one of my favorite guitarists, and I see I'm not the only one to liken your style to that of Martin Barre. The bamboo flute adds a nice dimension. Flawless mix, everything right where it should be. Another success story by a prolific team.

Mark (mwall) - Yes! James is the mix miester!! Actually, everything is mixed 'in-the-box' Sonar. However, I feel that James has a bit of a Golden touch....and neither of us has any hi-end stuff to my knowledge. We both have wives that distribute to us our weekly allowances. Seriously tho, thank you very much for the kind words and it's nice to know that this what you're hearing, so I guess we're doing something right.

Mark-Man, you missed your calling to be an art-critic in life!! Nice words Mark! Thank you! We really appreciate you stopping in.

James & I were pretty busy working on this one! Lots of odd meters going on in this. It's an instrumental depicting movement in all it's various forms.

James Griffiths - Electric guitar, Bamboo flute, strings, and mixing.

Me - Acoustic guitar, percussion, and bass.

We really appreciate and enjoy your listening and taking the time to comment on this song. It's what it's all about!

James/Larry:
Nice job once again guys. This one really travels along nicely. I love all the various sounds that you guys incorporate and yet it doesn't sound too busy. Just the right combo. Larry you have really come a long way with your flute playing and your acoustic sound is a sweet as ever! James, as usual, very tasteful, well placed guitar with a great tone. Somehow you manage a tone without too much treble but it doesn't sound muffled. The mix is great too. I listened the other day but didn't have time to respond so I a second listen today was in order. Great work guys. I also like the new pic on the SMB SC site. You guys sure are fancy!

AHA! You guys are getting sneaky. I didn't read the thread today and forgot what I read the other day. I see James had flute duty this time around. Nice job James.
