New Tune - I don't believe in love

Well I say new tune, I actually recorded this in 06 with Sonar5. I've learned a lot since then, and continue to learn thanks to this wonderful forum. Still in all, I really like this song, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

Thanks,

Robby.

Another beautiful song, Robby. I love the guitars and love your voice. I would bring the vocals up a bit--they were hard to hear in some places.

But it's hard to just comment on the mix when so much of your heart is in this song. It's very touching.

Thanks Janet, I need to re-mix it. I appreciate you listening and your kind words. This was a very difficult time for me (when this was written). The divorce was "fresh", and both of my parents had recently passed. I was Jaded like a fine piece of oriental jewelry :-) Still am I guess. Why do people hurt each other so?

    Yo Robby,

I like this song quite a bit. Singer-songwriter-70's-pop-rock to the max. Sounds like you have Bernie Leadon or somesuch sitting in on guitar. Good melody and chord progresion.

    I need love
But I don't want to hurt anymore
    Too many people
Too afraid to walk out the door(?)

Real personal and real good lyrics. Dark night of the soul.

My only quibble is that I am having trouble hearing all the lyrics, and I think they are good enough to be up front. Maybe thay are over-processed.

    Good song, nonetheless.

    Cheers,

    Bert

Thanks Bert, yes, I agree with both you and Janet. I recorded this in 06. Since then, new gear, new knowledge. I need to re-mix. But my DAW is BROKEN!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I had a problem with my CD drive, and I took it in, they put a new drive in, it works, but tonight I went to record? And... No FW :-( So I'm down for another day or 2.

I appreciate your comments, this song has some deep meaning for me (like most). I'll get a new/better mix up :-) But it will take a few weeks. I'm colaborating (my first!) with another forum member, and also trying to start a project which will be my Opus... Called Missing Person (each new song we put out is our best, right?)

cool tune Robby....has a very familar feel. A bit bright overall but I know this is a first mix plua I'm a big analog fan so I tend to be more tubey sounding.

    great job!

robby, I think it's a great song. Vocals are really good to me. Strong, style, and very good harmony.
Everything seems be mixed in the middle. More "stereo" would clean it.
I'm learning and it's seems this would be a great tune to learn a lot about mixing. That many instruments and vocals..I wish I
could perform that many parts to have that challenge.

This could be a very, very good tune in my opinion.

Hey thanks for the feedback guys, yes, this was when I was trying to get Sonar up and running, it was my first DAW and I didn't really have anyone to show me :-( and didn't really understand about the concepts of EQ and panning. I will definitely revisit it this summer, I agree with everything said.

Good one Rob. I know everyone's pretty much commented on the mix, but if you're ever able to get those individual wavs and the time, spend some time on the mix. This song deserves it! Most of my 1st DAW songs, I wanted to cringe. LOL

    - sounds over compressed; let the intro breathe; back the guitars off of that starting vocal part
    - strident highs; check your EQs; I could see this track causing ear fatigue due to excessive content over 4K
    - guitar solo a TEENY tad too loud (just my opinion)
    - I would do a BIG clip gain reduction on the very last drum crash hit at the end of the song.
    - 90s prog metal rockers Queensryche had a pretty top hit called "I don't believe in love"; you might not have heard of it, but since a popular (to some) song that still gets radio play has this same title, you might want to consider a re-name.

Good song and good work overall! I hope this is taken as helpful advice,

heh, very heplful Ed, this was my first crack at Sonar ;-) It will be a combination of re-mix and re-record, but the finished product will be "dramatically" different, and hopefully better, thanks for listening man!

And you can't copyright the "name" of a song :-), you can't copyright a chord progression, only a melody and words. The name stays! Thanks again.

Another great song, Robby. Nice melody and harmonies and good job on the vocals and instruments. When you remix, you might want to do a little EQ carving to bring out the lead vocal a little bit more to the front of the mix. Great job!

Robby, very heartfelt great lyrics. Good vocals, but perhaps a bit over processed. Could bring them forward a tad. The lead guitar at the bridge is awesome.

You have a great voice Robby! This is a very nice song, I like the touch of organ and lead guitar work adds that touch of class. The overall mix only needs a little clarity and/or boost in the bass end since the overall balance on this track seems a little top heavy. Outstanding work and your other tracks are also fantastic, your song 'I'll Be Gone' is truly awesome, the melodies, harmonies are top notch.

Really good song Robby, love the lead guitar in this, the Hammond, and the chord progression. Everything sounds heartfelt.

Everyone has you covered on the mix, so I'll just add a +1 to upping the vocals and backing off the processing on 'em.

Hey thanks very much guys! Yes, I need to revisit this one, done in Sonar5 in 06, it was my first Sonar project :-) I still don't really know much about this whole process, but I know a lot more about it now than I did then. I will definitely fix-er-up.

Robby, good song, I enjoyed this. I agree the vox could come forward a bit, you have a nice clear voice and excellent harmonies. Tasty guitar leads too. This mix is perhaps not as distinct as a couple of your other songs I've heard, not as clean. Each part of the song flows quite naturally into the next. Good work.

Robby, great vocals, really like the tune. Mix could still use a little work; mix is narrow, and indistinct. Try separating things out, less reverb and processing. The cool thing is you've got a great voice and a good song; the rest is just details that can be worked.
