This plug's effect is indeed subtle, but it's there. My ears tell me the Amount knob dials in some slow-release compression, and there's a bit of high shelf EQ and/or harmonic excitement controlled by the "Detail" knob. Try putting two or three of them in series and you should be able to hear what Neutrino does pretty easily. Now the question is, why would you want to use this, when you can more readily control the sound with normal tools? I dunno about that. Edit: inserting Neutrino on every track of a mix helped gel things together. I'd say the effect is similar to what you get from VCC or other console emulations, but with enough compression to solidify the mix a bit. Again, it's subtle. But I like it! Thanks, iZotope. Cheers, Eddie

OT: Considering that both iZotope and Cakewalk are Massachusetts based companies and almost next door neighbors, I always find that silence a bit strange. They are in the same business and not exactly competitors, so they ought to be best friends and support each other. But I never see any of that. There seems to be only a mile and a half (or two km) between the two company’s offices, but maybe that Charles River is a really big divider, kind of like the River Styx? What do I know.

Agree completely with Eddie...but with a different conclusion. It DOES do something and MIGHT be useful if used like a console emu or some such and, after all, it is FREE. That said, unless they're going to come out with some sort of paid ($49 or so) update that actually makes it a useful tool...I don't see the point. It's got to be just Izotope establishing a marketing footprint from which to sell an actual product. And I give it an unequivocal thumbs down. YMMV.

Eddie, I know this is a lot to ask, but how about posting a project with and without Neutrino on every track? That should settle the matter of whether the effect is subtle but cumulative, or too subtle to matter. I'd do it myself (because I am a hopeless nerd) but my DAW won't be up and running for another week.

I just tried it on a drum loop and it did the exact opposite of what I expected. It attenuated the highs to the point where the hats and shaker sounded significantly quieter. It also made the whole loop sound less powerful, even though it raised the overall peaks by about 1dB.

I tried it on a different drum loop and the high frequency attenuation was even more pronounced. Here's the example - it's four bars with Neutrino disabled, then four bars with it enabled. Then four bars off, four bars on again. https://soundcloud.com/sh...p-dirtydrums-117-rex-5 PS This is with the "drum" setting. It wasn't that much different with the other settings.

Nope, sorry, not playing that game. Anyone who's curious to hear for themselves what the plugin does or doesn't do can download the thing and go nuts. I won't object if anyone disagrees with my posted opinion. It is surprising to me that so many have stated they don't hear the effect on a single track -- can't anyone perceive the spectral changes produced by cranking the Detail knob? Maybe try listening to an acoustic guitar track on good headphones. If you still can't hear it, you won't likely hear the difference on a full mix either. That's fine, it won't make or break your song. Carry on. Cheers, Eddie

That link isn't working for me, but can I ask where you set the controls for your test? The Drum mode, to my ears, seems a bit different from the others. Maybe some transient enhancement going on there. Cheers, Eddie

All joking aside, I'm a bit puzzled as well by so many who can't actually hear what the plug is doing. I mean it's subtle no doubt about it. But it is altering the signal. In fact, if you turn both dials all the way up and still can't hear it working...you might want to get your hearing checked. Although, at least in my testing, turning both dials all the way up was pretty unpleasantly distorted...unless that's what you're after. PS: What's happened to the forum?? I can't even install the sodding thing !
Anyone come across "error 1638" when both the C++ redistributables (x86 and x64) try and install ? I can finish the installation process but Sonar plugin manager won't pick up the VST's , both 2 and 3). I'll try registering the .dll's and see if that works.
I am reluctant to uninstall the C++ 2015 files already installed (which, apparantly are newer than those to be downloaded chez MS ............ ! )

So I auditioned this on something a little different: I have a pack of mostly clavinet loops from Bernie Worrell [R.I.P.] (Parliament/Funkadelic, Talking Heads, TomTom Club, etc...) and I heard a very distinct effect using the Instrument setting. Definite boost in highs and I think some additional harmonics going on there too (basically added some 'sparkle') . That nice clean clavinet sound makes those pretty easy to hear. I also think as Eddie TX also said that there is some compression going on too. A little sustain, but also a little 'thickening' of the sound. I actually quite like it. Reminds me a little of Slate's Revival. Another nice freebie.
