Fairfax 1, Black Velvet and Jazz Sticks. Indie and Funk were high on my list too. Funny how close are our choices here.

Windows 10/64, Intel i7 Xeon X6575 3,07GHz, 24Gb RAM, chipset: Intel X58 Express, Kingston SSD 240Gb,  Sonar Platinum , Edirol UA-25.  (Some extra VSTs: PSP almost all/  IK - AT4, ST3, / AAS - all/ TH3 full/ +10dB/ Melodyne Editor). EVE sc205 monitors, Defil Kosmos guitar, blue lava lamp, ashtray.  And there is some great music you may find at: https://soundcloud.com/pawel-jan-1

Re: Now that the smoke has cleared-Which ADpacks did you get? 2015/02/10 09:38:21 (permalink)
After listening to all of them closely, I decided to get a bit of variety and liked the sounds of these:

AdPacks:
1) Fairfax 2
2) Reel Machines
3) Vintage Dry

MidiPacks:
Rock Songs
Percussion Beats
Blues (coz I luvz da bluez :))

I can't remember which kits I got, but I think they're the congas, picolo snare, & the big bass (purple drum)).

Of note, I use the Percussion Beats midi with other drum kits (i.e Reel Machine/Fairfax2) and it's really fantastic, easy to use stuff. Also, as someone else mentioned, the transform feature is very useful as well.

I want to get as many of their Adpacks as I can, but a bit broke atm........I'm ready to trade some of my Maschine Expansions or even other plugs as I'm totally Addicted to these drums.

I purchased the Fairfax Bundle before upgrading to Platinum (the wait was killing me, lol!) After upgrading I picked up the Indie, Vintage Dry and Blue Oyster ADPaks.

For MIDI I chose: American Rock, American Indie, Loud Beats and Songs (and I already got Indie)

I like them all so far. It is certainly MUCH easier than how I was working before. I used to rewire Reason into Reaper for drums and wasted a lot of time doing so.

One thing that I wish Addictive would put up on their site is the range of BPM the midi packs contain.

I had studio rock, prog and pop from ad1 to ad2 upgrade and had Metal and Session Percussion as well from earlier.

I had almost decided to stop using AD2 for several reasons but the Sonar trippelpack turned me back to it. I even purchased an additional artist bundle to round out the sets as I had a hard time deciding. New ones: Vintage, Black Velvet,  Jazz brushes, Blue Oyster and Fairfax 2.

I took the opportunity to get some decent brushes, so I went for Jazz Brushes, Studio Pop and Fairfax 1 (which seems to be most popular from the posts above, but I haven't done an exact count).

I also had Djembe, Timbau and Sangban. No midis.

Fairfax 2, Blue Oyster, Reel Machines + DW woofer BD and DW piccolo snare.

Loving the easy layering - my first frankenstein experiment is 808 BD layered with the DW woofer BD.

I got the Jazz sticks & rushes and the Pop AD.

But what I really wanted was the MIDI stuff.  I tried to select that and got an error.  Now I can't select it at all.  So I have the drums, but not the MIDI material.  I sent a request for support and have heard zilch after 2 days.

On edit, XLN did respond.  The MIDI tracks actually were installed.  I was just confused.

Okay, I'm going to be the oddball here and say I've never even installed Addictive Drums. I use EZdrummer and didn't see the need to learn yet another program.  But it looks like I'm in the minority here!

You are not alone. EZD2 is brilliant but I will try some AD2 after building the patterns with EZ. AD2 offers an amazing amount of edits/tweaks.

Re: Now that the smoke has cleared-Which ADpacks did you get? 2015/02/11 00:57:59 (permalink)
Looking for variety, I got:

Black Velvet - Loud, Grunge, Rock
Studio Percussion - World, Dance, Funk
Reel Machines - Electronic , Dance, Pop, Rock
and the associated Midipaks - Loud, Percussion, Reel (recognising they can sound good with alternate kits).

I already had the Studio Pop, Prog, Rock from X3.

I figured I could get the Fairfax Bundle  (1&2) at a bundle/sale price (if the GAS levels rise). But whilst demoing they probably weren't even next on my list ... which was probably Vintage Dry. Is there a bad choice? Sound all pretty solid for their respective jobs/genres to me.

Still to choose my kitpieces.

I considered getting the Jazz brushes, just to have that variant available. But then I figured, in 15 years of recording I have never had the need for brushes. Nor could I foresee the upcoming need. (of course now that I have publicly stated this, tomorrow I will indeed no doubt have a surprise need for some brushes sounds!)

So rather than add to the vast collection of relics that are gathering virtual cobwebs? I went with Fairfax 1, Black Velvet and Retroplex! Yes the old faithful, big drums go boom!!!

I contacted support a couple times and it took two days for a response. The responses were well worth the wait. I'm an AD fan! (I believe I even convinced them to change their WEB site to clear up the confusion between "upgrade AD2" and "AD2 engine only".

I keep wondering what they would do next, they seem to have covered most bases. I would be interested in a Hot Rods Kit and a Mallets kits. (as well as a stack of percussion Kit Pieces)

Maybe they should collaborate with Cake and have a kit that Loads up Sonar when I'm not in and installs a drum kit to replicate the drummer turning up early to set up, so it's ready to go when I walk in through the door.

We need some sounds of sticks breaking too. And the sound of sticks hitting the kit and floor randomly when twirling a stick flies out of the hand.

It was tough choosing from so many really good kits. I went with: Black Velvet, Studio Pop, Fairfax Vol2 (current favorite).

I plan to get others. They have several that I can make good use of for songwriting. The Indie kits were tempting. I would like to have something similar to ezdrummer's Nashville or something that supported country or contemporary christian to have in the tool box.

I got Fairfax 1 when I upgraded to AD2, so this time I added Session Percussion, Jazz Brushes, and Vintage Dry.  I'd added the Dry Beats and Ballad Grooves midipaks during the half off sale. Since the perc and brushes midi were "required", I got the Reggae, too. I don't recall how/why I have the Pearl Masterworks piccolo snare, but I added the Bongoes, Timbau and Sangban. RE the Sangban, I thought I selected the Djembe, so I was disappointed by that. I can't imagine using it, but who knows!?!
I have a couple more in mind, for when they go on sale, but haven't got to mess with any of these, yet, so some exploring is in order!
Michael

ps  Like Afrodrum, I thought the songs midipaks would be good to get, and the Latin/Afro one, too.
Anyone feel like Fairfax Vol2 is a really good expansion on Vol 1?      I love Vol 1., but wanted to cover more bases, first.

@ musicroom    Check out Platinum Samples Groove (midi) libraries. They have a video of how they show up in AD2

https://www.platinumsamples.com/index.php

At the bottom of the Real Country Groove library page, they scroll through the midi in AD2. It certainly seems easy.

@ musicroom    Check out Platinum Samples Groove (midi) libraries. They have a video of how they show up in AD2

A little bit of a tangent, I use Finale 2014 a lot.  It is really limited in the VSTs it can use.  I think it only can do 32-bit VSTs.  Just for fun, within Finale I scanned for VSTs after installing AD, and it found AD2.  That works great.  At the moment, I have set the "?" to General MIDI map so that all my existing parts in Finale will play reasonably.  But there are many more techniques available in the other maps.  This is definitely something I can use under Finale (and under Platinum too of course).  It is a big improvement over the minimal "standard" kits that are available in Garritan.  Even with my goofy drum patterns (not trying to be totally realistic), the drums actually sound pretty good.
