The list represents the number of times I have counted that each kit has been chosen in this thread. It is not 100% accurate. I am trying to decide which ones to get myself. They are so expensive when you have to pay for them, I feel this is a big decision lol Since I created the list for myself, I thought I would share it for fun. I will update my post above to clarify.

Wait till xln has a sale and buy a bundle from Audio Deluxe. The Artist Bundle gets you 2 of each. When they(xln) do the half off sale again, I'll definitely be getting some more kits and midi. There isn't much going on (yet?) kitpieces-wise. I didn't mention having the 3 Studio kits, because they were included. So, you can bump your tally. Michael

You have Blue Oyster twice, maybe one should be Black? As far as I know there's no Blue Velvet AD kit. I'm guessing Bflat5 meant Black velvet when he wrote Blue velvet, but could be the Black Oyster as well I suppose. Black Velvet quickly became one of my favourites...

The BV sounds very good, but they mostly all do. Black Oyster is Ringo's Ludwig kit flavor, and Bonham's is the Blue Oyster, I suppose, but I am not sure about the other references. Michael

ADPAKS - Indie, Brushes & Fairfax 1 MIDIPAKS - Brushes, Sticks & Alt Rock I'm really enjoying AD2. Especially running some of the MIDI sticks grooves through some of the other kits. Also for others who may in the past have bought and downloaded Groove Monkee MIDI Paks. I checked my Groove Monkee account and my MIDI Paks that I had bought in 2012 had been updated to AD2. Great service by Groove Monkee. Greg

A great place to get some good deals is at KVR (Markeplace). Generally, you can get items for 50% (or less) than the current prices. Since you'll be buying from a forum member, it's always good to check out the comments in the Feedback thread and see what others have said about their experience (most are very positive). I've got some fantastic gear/deals from KVR over the years and it's also a good place to sell your unused gear. I've seen AD2 deals in there quite often. Alchemy is a hot item right now....sonce Camel is closing shop.

So since learning I have to install all 3 at the same time, or wait further. Then that new kits won't be available for the bundle http://forum.cakewalk.com/The-up-and-down-side-of-the-XLN-redemption-codes-for-AD2-m3179686.aspx#3180094 I went for: Session drums Black Oyster Funk (I didn't like the website demos so much, an 80s version of funk to my ears, and not a sound I dig that much, but then I went through the audio demos on AD2 and was swung) I also have Studio Trio Fairfax pair Brush and Dry Pretty happy with that. 5 kit pieces still to add

I'll chime in with a plug for the Indie kit. It really sounds fantastic with just a little tweaking. I got Black Velvet too, but it is so polished and produced that I have a hard time using it and not sounding like I'm in a crappy modern rock band.

I forgot to use my Addictive Drums code from X3 so I entered it just before I used the Platinum code and the X3 codes worked AND the Platinum code worked. I got Session Percussion, Funk, Modern Jazz Sticks, Studio Bundle, Studio Pop, Studio Rock, Studio Prog, Pearl Piccolo Snare, DW Woofer Bass Drum, Vistalite Bass Drum, Valter Percussion Cajon.

I got Fairfax 1and 2 plus the Vintage Dry kit. I haven't really spent much time with it yet. I've got a pile of EZDrummer kits and MIDI, so I tend to use that, but I'm looking forward to spending some time with AD2 soon.

I was just checking out the demos. When I originally bought X1 I had been looking at Addictive Drums for my drum synth and was particularly interested in the Jazz Brush and Sticks. I ended up getting BFD Eco instead which is a great program as well. Once they added AD to X3 I was very happy because now I had both but wasn't going to drop extra coin on ADPacks. Anyway... they have really expanded their selection since I was first looking at AD so I'm pretty stoked. At the moment there are unfortunately 4 AdPacks I am really interested in. Fairfax Vol 1 Metal Studio Prog Jazz Brushes Fairfax Vol 1 is definitely a no brainer for me. I'm a huge Nirvana fan and love the drum sound on Nevermind. I've been trying and dying to emulate that big, smashy sound but it's hard with the kits I currently have. Checking out the demos it definitely sounds to be exactly what I want. The Vol 2 sounds good too but because it's an older kit it's not as tight or loud. Useful for sure but not something I'm prone to gravitate toward. I also have the Rock Legends kit for BFD and SD3 which gets me that kind of early punk sound. The Metal pack is going to be an either or situation I think. It sounds perfect for metal (and I write a LOT of metal stuff) but I'm not necessarily into that stereotypical "clicky" sound that has wormed it's way on so many albums over the past decade. However this seems to have a good mix of the actual kit sound and the clicky trigger sound AND supposedly you can specifically adjust the blend of that clicky trigger sound and the actual kit. Very cool. Considering metal is something I'll likely be producing a lot of it's probably a good idea to have at least one kit that can acheive the modern metal sound. That stuff can also be really tricky to dial in without the right kit so yeah... I SHOULD get it but I'm almost loathe to succumb to production peer pressure. lol Studio Prog sounds really good in the mixes they had and I had really wanted to snag one of those Neil Peart kits for SD3 or BFD (I think there is one for BFD through Platinum Samples). This could be a suitable stand in for the Metal pack and kind of solves my problem about having a stereotypical metal drum sound on everything. I do also love me some hyper technical prog stuff which can get all stupid and muddled when trying to program it with a sampler. It says this really let's the hits and artics cut through with a lot of expression so that is very desirable to me. Listening to the presets demo there is also lots of creative sound mangling going on so I like that. Seems rather flexible. Jazz Brushes is, as I said, something I've wanted for years. I also do folks and country and have a very specific project that requires a nice light brush technique. Thing is though I have a session guy who actually does this stuff as part of the project I need it for anyway. Still it ticks me off because I KNOW I need something like this in my toolbag but at this point I'm not sure how often I'm going to pull it out. The one thing though is I'm not really digging the kit sound for this pack. I mean it sounds good but it is extremely "vintage" sounding... and that's nice but it's to such an extreme that it's almost a parody of a jazz brush sound. It's too specific and old school. Perhaps it is more flexible once installed. It also seems like the type of thing that really needs its companion AdPak, Jazz Sticks. So I'm still deciding and I'll need to see what I already have for the things I'd use it for but sadly I think the other kits, even though they are all somewhat similar, may knock the poor ole Jazz Brush pack out as a contender. As far as the other possibilities... well between the included content I already have in BFD, SD3 and AD as well as the few banks I've acquired as freebies or on special over the years I think I can easily duplicate that stuff. The Studio Percussion one would be something I could not duplicate easily I guess but I don't see myself accessing that very often and if I need wacky alternate perc sounds there are tons of patches within the various synths that would fill those needs. I'm actually going to hold of on even updating AD to AD2 for now until I can give Platinum a run through as is (I'm testing a project created in X3 so I want to see if it will be stable as is and THEN update to AD2 to see if that borks anything out). Then I'll do a massive scouring of all my drum sounds to finalize my adpack decision but it will most likely be three of those four paks. Of course I am always open to opinions and suggestions and will read this thread more thoroughly to see what everyone got and what they think of it all. Cool thread. Thanks.

Howdy. I was gonna reply to your message but since you're here... thanks, dude! I'm pretty psyched about it all. As far as this AdPak stuff goes I think I may do it in stages. I'm going to try out the Fairfax first and see how it fits in with everything I've currently got on the go. If I can twist and bend it to my will it may make up my mind in regards to whatever else I snag. It could end up being better for either the Metal or Prog pack uses I have in mind which would then free me up to snag the Jazz Brushes. Since they are all the same price (and maybe we'll get a bonus pack or a sale will happen) whatever I leave out can always be acquired later when I finally sort out my finances. I'm just trying to make it so I can get things done that will be most likely to push things forward in my modest little endeavours. The screwy thing is I desperately want to branch out into other styles but I already have a decent underground following for my crazy metal stuff. Even though that will never result in any breakthrough hits it is easier for me to write, produce and "market". Having those more aggressive kits would make all that happen much more quickly because I'm kind of getting tired of meticulously tweaking sounds (and usually screwing it up). If I can just toss a kit into a project, have a good pool of loops to start with and then edit (I prefer performing my own drums but it is very difficult to go nuts on my little padKontrol) then maybe I can speed things up a bit, improve my lot in life and then get myself back into the real world with a real kit and real drummers in a real soundroom. Pipe dreams at this point but I've been there before and I'd like to get back to that. Cheers.

Remember, if you have SONAR X3 Pro you have the Studio Prog, Studio Pop and Studio Rock in AD1. If you update from AD1 to AD2 those and any other Ad packs and midi get converted to AD2. So buying the upgrade is a pretty cheap way to get three more packs for AD2. Or just use them is AD1 and save the $.

Okay, this is something I was curious about and I'm glad you brought it up. I haven't dug trhough what I already own with AD1 which I got with X3 Producer (I upgraded to X3 before AD2 was released). So I was going to go through everything to make sure I didn't already have the AdPaks/Kits I was interested in. So based on your post I might actually already own the Studio Prog kit? If so that would be brilliant because it frees me up to use one of my freebies on the Jazz Brushes kit. Then I'd have everything I really want. I'm about to boot up anyway so I may take a brief look at this but I actually have some other stuff I need to poke at and test as well. Thanks.

Just thought I'd mention for those considering the Studio Prog AdPak as part of the package that comes with Platinum, if you already have AD1, you already have Studio Prog, Studio Pop and Studio Rock, and all three (plus any others you may have previously purchased for AD1) can be updated to AD2 status for one "upgrade" price. This upgrade is not included with Platinum , but it is only $80 from XLN and sometimes they put it on sale. So, if you think you might also go the XLN upgrade route at some point, you probably do not want to choose any of the AD1 AdPaks you already have as part of the package you get with Platinum. That way, you'll have six (or more) different AdPaks and the only additional expense is the price of the XLN upgrade. That's my plan, and I'm trying to be patient enough to wait for XLN to put the AD1 to AD2 upgrade on sale.
