8.5 pro and X1 pro were solid for me though I have to say I didn't use 8.5 to long because X1 came out. I went full out with X1, bought exspanded and all the prochannels modules etc.. I upgraded to X2 because X1 was great for me but I have a lot of issues with X2 and not sure why.
For the sake of geting X2 to work like X1 I reimaged my pc back to the factory image. After spending hours of backing up data and reinstalling apps and restoring data and Windows update etc. I installed X2 and only X2 and I'm still having the same issues except now V-Vocal doesn't crash X2 every time I use it. So I am disappointed with X2. I will give cake a little longer to work out the issues. If X2 is not going to be stable enough I'll wipe it out and install X1 and not upgrade again. I will be afraid to upgrade. I understand that applications are installed on many make and model PC's with so many difference hardware, software etc. and if X1 is compatible with my PC then I'm sticking with it.

Oh and I should point out I made my PC a powerhouse to take whatever I can throw at it and be future ready. I don't want to hace to build another one for at least 4-5 years. I could have built it for $800 if I was being frugal and used different brands. I've still got a lot of the lists I made back then.

No reason why a PC shouldn't be good for that long. My current PC is 3 years old and to tell you the truth I bet it would run for another 3 years, the only thing being I would quite prefer a roomier case and some more CPU power since my plugin use seems to be increasing exponentially with time. I also would like to upgrade to Windows 8 and if I'm going to do that, I'd rather it was done with a fresh install. If I'm going to go through the trauma of reinstalling everything on a DAW then I'd rather do that with a new machine.

I may well check out ADK if it's only going to be 2 or 3 hundred bucks more...given that I've never built a PC before, and I have nobody to help me for free, the chances of something going wrong are pretty high. Besides, I fully plan to write it off as a business expense.....tax porpoises

For a quite decent machine here are component costs as of this afternoon's US market:

1.  Case
2.  Power Supply
3.  Fans
4.  CPU
5.  Memory
6.  Liquid Cooling (completely optional, but cheap and helpful)
7.  Primary Hard Drives (Several listed, pick one main and at least one secondary)
8.  Motherboard (must be bought in concert with selected CPU)
9.  Operating System - I am pricing Win 7 and Win 8 here because I hate Apple
10.  Optical drive(s)
11.  External backup drive.

If you shop the above compoments out, you are looking at approximately $1000 for TOP grade components, for a machine with 32 GB of memory and a total of 5 TB of hard drive storage, running one of the fastest CPU's you can buy.

If you want links and specifics, please send me a private message and I will respond with that information.  I built one such monster machine for myself, and it ROCKS!

As far as putting a computer together, it has gotten easier and easier over the years.  It's REALLY simple to do.  If you needed guidance, I would also happyily provide my email address and phone so you could call me with any questions or even to have me walk you through it over the phone.

Here is a raw list of links and costs for you to look at:

2 TB HD - $99.99 http://microcenter.com/pr...Hard_Drive_STBD2000101 Buy 2 if you can

1 TB HD - $84.99 http://microcenter.com/pr..._Drive_ST3100005N1A1AS This would be your primary drive for OS

CPU - i7 2600k 3.4 GHz $319.99 - http://www.newegg.com/Pro...x?Item=N82E16819115070

Motherboard - LOTS to choose from.  Get one that supports USB 3.0 AND Sata 6.0 gbs, and socket support for 1155.  Here is one for $199.99: http://www.newegg.com/Pro...x?Item=N82E16813131790

Another Motherboard supports 32 GB memory for $239.99 http://microcenter.com/pr..._ATX_Intel_Motherboard

One more motherboard $379.99: http://microcenter.com/pr..._ATX_Intel_Motherboard

Case - zillions of them to choose from.  Just get one that supports a liquid cooling radiator.  Should cost between $50-$75.

Fans - Get as many as will fit - keeping in mind that if you pick upa liquid cooled one that will come with its own fans.

Memory - 32 GB can be picked up for around $150-$160, which would be 4 8 GB strips.  I recommend Vengence: http://microcenter.com/pr...ur_8GB_Memory_Modules)

A case - there are lots and lots of them.  I would recommend a tower case, it gives you lots of room inside for things, and make sure you get one that supports having a liquid cooling system.  These run from about $50-$75.  Here is a good one: http://microcenter.com/pr...ower_ATX_Computer_Case

Power Supply - I would get one with at least 600 watt - 750 would be better.  There are numerous ones to choose from.

Liquid cooler radiator system: Corsair makes a good one for about $79.99 - http://microcenter.com/pr...d_AMD_AM2,_AM3_Sockets

Thanks, loads of good links there. I might well look into this early next year. I guess I'll save myself some money since I already have a couple of good 7200rpm 2TB hard drives.

Not sure what makes you think this is a good system?

Drives that large are usually slower than drives that are much smaller.

Water cooling in most cases is louder than case fans because of how the liquid is cooled.

The RAM you get should be exactly what your mobo manufacturer recommends. Anything else and you are taking a chance on disaster.

What about a video card?

Keyboard?

Mouse?

Shipping? Especially from multiple vendors.

Your math is off, Bob. Even going for discount brands that would cost over $1100 WITHOUT shipping and taxes. Bump up to the better brands and models, include shipping, taxes and a copy of Windows (you forgot the OS) and it'll work out to around the $1500 I quoted. Though some components I used may have dipped in price a bit.

I splurged a bit on my case (Zalman) and bought a nice CPU fan (Noctua) as well as a 700W Coolermaster PSU. I thought those components were worth the extra quid.

I agree with Freddie H, first a stable DAW before all those fancy offerings. I also think that someone from CW should reply to the criticism. There were some replies in a couple threads just after X2 was launched...

Intel Core i7 - 2600K 3,4GHz 16GB RAM Asus P8Z68-V SSD 2 x (Corsair 120 GB Force 3) 2 x (Seagate S-ATA 250 GB) 1 USB Seagate 1 TB  VS-100 Sonar X1d, X2a and X3d.

Re:xxx 2012/12/14 15:31:11 (permalink)
I was only trying to throw some links out to show some components, which is why I prefaced the list with 'raw' - I wasn't trying to suggest that as any kind of explicit shopping list.  Sorry for any confusion with that.

There are a lot of choices, and compromises, and goals, in getting a new system together.  Memory is quite cheap these days, and so is storage.  Video cards that are adequate are available for less than $100, and there are bundles out there if one looks, where for example an AMD quad-core processor and motherboard can be purchased for less than $150 that would be quite adequate for running Sonar.  There are trade-offs between performance and price, but a good balance can be found that would result in a pretty decent machine for not too much money.  I believe there was even a recent upgrade offer to get to Windows 8 for something like $39 dollars.

Well I got bad news for you Freddie H.
It’s the 15th of December here (East-coast Australia) and still no update.

Because I'm 10 hours ahead of UK and something like 16 hours in front of US. I’ll PM you all so you know in advance when the update is released.

Personally guess... ETA 2013

I have definitely woken up in an alternate universe this morning. Why on earth would a customer be loyal?

Perhaps other people's purchasing decisions are based on different criteria to mine but if I buy something and I'm happy with the product, happy with the service then I'm likely to buy from the company again.

If I'm not I buy elsewhere next time with a lesson learned. I certainly don't keep buying from them in the hope that I might be satisfied one day. Anyone who does that is going to be extremely disappointed, or perhaps they are insane in the first place.

Bizarre to say the least.

I couldn't agree more.  It baffles me why certain people come on here year after year complaining about Sonar.

I have a Ford Focus, and love it.  When I next buy a car, I will try another one.  If I buy a new model and it's terrible, I will think twice about getting another.  I would not keep trying them and complaining on some Ford Focus forum, I'd just buy a different car.

I, like many others, found Sonar X1 stable, especially X1d, which was rock solid FOR ME.  When X2 came out, I bought it because I'd been so happy with X1.  I didn't initialy use it for paying work, as new software is often buggy.  After the quick fix, X2 became very stable for me.

If X1 had been bad for me, I wouldn't have updated, and would be looking elsewhere.

... If you bought a Honda you'd never go back to a Ford!

I'm not seeing any of the problems you've listed above since the quickfix was released.

Try to mute a note in PRV. ALT CLICK- as you can see it keep delete it..
BREVERB keeps turn ON OFF "dead" in a BUS after reloading project?
Drop Outs of audio, audio engine halt sometimes... and so on...Deleting a BUS channel make SONAR X2 crash sometimes...

Tracklanes, get unlaned/ hide randomly selecting other tracks? Track lanes counts adds +20 empty tracks called "0" after reloading project?
Selecting Synth Audio track, MIDI Track and then range of the selection make MIDI track get unselected during Mixdown?
The list goes on....

Breverb works great for me-use it in every project-never turns itself off and BTW-UPDATE by end of the month-relax

I come here for the same reason. I would prefer to get an email though. Don’t understand what the issue is. I have filed ticket after ticket for over 8 years now. I have one in right now since June 8 of this year. Still no email. Rather peculiar in this day and time.

So it's announced to be coming out this month (believe it when I see it, I placing bets (that I will probably lose) that it will actually be early January :). Somebody said 3 months for a patch is overdue. Unless you are the project manager stop whinging.

Re:Numerous problems reported with X2, 2 month later still no real update? 2012/12/14 18:45:19 (permalink)
And I guess you gotta figure it would take a little longer to patch considering they were contending with a brand new OS to support which still hadn't been officially released at the time of the X2 release. Kind of like planning the decor for a house that hasn't even been framed yet.

Just hope that didn't introduce a bunch of new bugs for us faithful 7 users.

Frankly I think we could all use some wining and dining... perhaps some dancing too.

Just watch those wandering hands, fellas! I'm not that kind of girl.

I'm always frank and earnest with women. Uh, in New York I'm Frank, and Chicago I'm Ernest.

On the computer sidetrack from earlier in the thread, here is a Best Buy deal on a reasonable computer - not the fastest, but would run things:

http://www.bestbuy.com/si...7728&cp=1&lp=1

It was priced at something like $379, with 6 GB memory and an i5 processor.
