I'm an Electrical Engineer.  I work for a large government contractor on figher jet parts for the USAF.

Might have even inspected some of Beags work at one time or another LOL.  Yup, kinda had my fingers in a lil bit of everything

I look after people's coloured things, take out green things they don't want, and make some other green things smaller.

Sometimes I make big bits of brown stuff into smaller bits and make other stuff out of the bits.

I eat my vittles in my white thing.

I play poker for most of my income, and I have an interest in a business as a silent partner. I also flip a few houses a year. When things get slow, I tune bongos for spare change.

Randy

I envy you....I don't even know how to play poker. I understand the flippers are flopping by the dozens. Anyone hanging with that has to be savvy to the hilt.

I should be envied. Tuning bongos is not for the weak!

Still trying to figure out how to get our startup business to pay me so I can buy vittles.

If we were incorporated, I would be the COO, CFO and CIO.  Since we're not I go by the title of Project Director.

There's also only six of us (all engineers of one type or another, mostly electrical or mechanical engineers including a PhD with 70 patents).  For fun, we figured out how many different "hats" we all were wearing and here's mine:

IT Director
Lead Programmer
Head of Finance
Capital Asset Manager
Portfolio Manager
Program Manager
Project Manager
Business Analyst
Software Engineer
Creative Marketing Director
Artwork Designer
Web Administrator
Mathematical Modeler
Enterprise Content Manager
Human Resource Manager
and... Administrative Assistant (though I will be hiring a real one soon).

I try not to work more than 168 hours per week (though I might go for 169 in October).

Time for all of you to head over to Beyond My DAW!

Tim...guess I'll bite.
Can't give many details....
My day starts at 4:30 am...get there about 6:15 am..(same day)
I eat lunch, if I eat, about 11:00 am and finish sometime later (same day)
Then I leave @2:50pm..you got it!..same day.
All the time inbetween I try to keep a low profile so I can repeat the
previous days schedule.
Inbetween those time frames I'm on the computer until my eyes
go out of focus and when they do I get in my Co. truck and drive
around out in the woods.
When my eyes are in focus.....it's stuff to do with chemicals which
I can't talk about. IF I'm not completing ethical cources or job comittment
forms or answering questions on the phone by people that can't get focused.
Oh, sometimes I look at my 401K and thank myself for having the sense
to move my goods before others decided to move them for me.
It's not a Mad, Mad, Mad World.....it's a crazy butthead world. Pay me.

Let me guess.the CIA, the NSA???

LOL...I just got back from lunch and a short ride...I can see again...let's just
say that I work with chemicals to make the world a better place for us to live in.
I can proudly say that I think it's working too. People really may not know exactly
how much of the world Americans feed and take care of....and all the time we
listen to them dog us. But I don't mind so much while I pity their ignorance.
Oops...hope I didn't start anything....oh well.

Electrical Engineer for a major manufacturer of computer components. I write the test programs which test the chips that go into many a computer. I got interested in electronics as a kid in High School when I realized that music wouldn't be fun anymore if I had to support myself that way.

Did I miss what your day job was Tim?  LOL

Much like BAPU, I just mingle around CH but in my past life which I cannot discuss, I do still have some old tools of the trade (A pack of M&Ms with the presidential seal on them).    Nuff said on that!!!

I am a journeyman HVAC tech. (thats heating, ventilation and air conditioning). I started out in electronics with training in that. Found jobs in audio shops and two-way radio shops. Was layed off in the 80s during the recession then and migrated into HVAC by happenschance.......started at the bottom in installations and design and worked into repair. Ran residential and migrated to commercial. Now a lot of what I do involves computers and controls. I have a good mix of field work and computer work. When I am on the computer waiting for a system to respond to a change I might end up here in the coffee shop Now I work for a large university in what is sometimes called "Facilities Management". We can control and observe pretty much everything from a computer now. When we find a problem I get top go an fix it........
Intersting-I too have done all that in the past as well upto and including teaching service techs from all around the world.  I like the new integrated systems that they have come out with for monitoring the AHUs, hot and cold decks, chillers and boilers.  Really has made both sides of the house easy to deal with not to mention good troubleshooting tools available with all the refrigerant and electrical figures ya can pull from it to figure out whats going wrong with something.  Also keeps the winers honest

I would have never figured there would be anyone here even remotely related to that field. Some of the systems I have worked with are not written very well. Fortunately now we have a solid system. Yes we eliminate hours a day running here and there because someone is hot or cold. We can change the temps remotely and tell if they are fibbing. We have energy initiatives and so there are certain global controls in the software that regulate what can be done with regards to outside air temps. The A/C won't run if its a certain temp outside, nor will the heat come on if if its too warm. Night time offsets save even more energy. We are going green with water source heat pumps in a big way. Just drilled 400 or so wells........ We can also trend WHEN something happens and tell how long it has been happening.Cool stuff.

I run a business installing and servicing security equipment of all types and sorts. I started into this after studying electricity and electronics (2 different courses) at a community college after getting out of the military service.

The work is interesting and pays well, and since the economy is slowing down all sorts of businesses, I have more time for the studio and writing.

Are you the guy that came up with canned aerosol cheese? If you are then thanks. I love that stuff.

A lot of responsibilty.......the guy up front taking the hits from disgruntled customers. Probably not many calls like," I just wanted to sincerely thank you"

Oh, we get quite a few "Thank You" calls...

Oh you cant beat the GEOTHERM Systems for efficiency in any way. Closed loops like what they are putting in there are even nicer cause ya dont have to worry about any external environmental factors interupting throughout the year. I seen a few that werent taken care and it just destroys the metal inside the closed loop systems. But like any heat pump system, cleanliness is where ya save your money. I did a residential system in Arkansas that had 4 seperate system with zoning on one house (It was a BIG place) and their bills werent nothing when we finished for heating or cooling.
As for the older facilities prior to late 90, I havent seen a place that has kept up anything with electrical, mechanical or plubing.  Most of the time its just winged on the fly and nothing gets updated. What makes it worse is as they hire employees to work these system, its on a basis of work em till they fail and then train em.  Its a wonderful world LOL

What do you actually do for vittles and such??
I've been in the copier/POS (Point of Sale) sales/service business since 89 (part time 84 ~ 89 during the summer). Sold and serviced copiers, faxes, printers, PC based and stand alone Point Of Sales systems, serviced PC's, installed multi function devices for printing and scanning on networks. Over the years I worked up to master tech status and was moving in to management. Unfortunately the economy had other plans for me. :)

I do sound for a non-profit kid's educational software company that currently targets 2-8 year olds.  'Cause after that age it's a lost cause.
