OK, now I'm REALLY done buying plug ins
Sonar Platinum comes with a great suite of plug ins, one could argue that it's everything you need. Still, when I got back into home recording after some years away, I got current with some Waves plugs I had previously purchased, and got a few more that filled some holes in the Gold bundle I had. I purchased the IK MIDI thingie to get a Sampler, and the guitar thingie to get Amplitube (great product). I got some ProChannel add ons to fill out my PC. Recently the Waves SSL went on sale, and I had been watching for it for some months now (I have an SSL pre, so it seemed a good match). So now I am done, I have everything I want or need. How long do you think this will last?

New Sonar media browser revealed that I already have all the plugins and instruments I need and then some. Still watching the Deals forum just in case there are good deals in instrument extensions, though.

I swore off buying anything new for my setup, after picking up a new midi keyboard for myself this past Friday. I've been spending a bit on my studio setup, this past year, and have now got enough plugins, libraries and hardware to keep me busy for years -- not to mention I have three teenagers to raise, including a kid in college. And then this very evening, I finally got around to demoing Phoenix Verb from Exponential Audio, and...well, dammit...

Don't think there is an end if you have the hoarding disease like me. Got myself cold and sober awhile back, but back slid. Looked at the sick excess of effects and synths I have accumulated. Can never explore the potential in this life with what I already got. Stayed straight for several months. Then caved in to the TubeOhm Juno emulator. Then saw the post about Acon Verberate sale. Resisted that one. Mighty Lord Krishna, does it ever end. Looking forward to the Third Coming to liberate the faithful from this disease. We will prevail when He comes back in glory in the clouds, even if the credit card doesn't for now. John

Same here. I did buy XPand 2 for $1 a few weeks ago - that was one of the 2 or 3 plug-ins that I bought since I bought my new studio computer 2 years ago. And those few plug-ins that I did buy were ones that I'd been wanting in my toolbox for ages. In fact, even after two years, I have dozens of plug-ins I never even bothered to install on the new machine. And even then, there are still many plug-ins which I only installed because they were part of a larger collection, like Waves and IK. I never use them. I stick to Logic's native plugs in 95% of the cases. But there are still a few 3rd party must, like Waves CLA-2A and 3A and L1. No doubt I could achieve the same thing with Logic's own, but I'm lazy and those just make my life so much easier. The music money went on hardware, room treatment, guitars and amps, and I firmly believe that spending even just $150 on a new pick-up or a dynamic mic makes more difference than spending $1500 on plug-ins - no matter how awesome the plug-ins. The less I have to count on software to get that sound, the better. Staying away from this forum and only paying occasional visits helps, too. :P

I checked up on this thread to see if I was still buying plug ins. Turns out I did want an 1176, which I did not have, but waited for a sale. Waves ran one in December and I bit. No regrets. Maybe I'm not done buying plugs, but I have found I have most of what I want. Same thing with guitars - 3 Strats and 3 LP's is enough. My current shopping list is empty, unless I get anything to the mastering stage. (probably have everything I need). Probably.
