Oh look, here I am holding the Blu-ray of that very biopic: Actually Pedro, I didn't rate it that highly. The guy playing him is uncannily like him, but he really hams it up. And I'm afraid I didn't 'get' the weird way the story is told. And it's called Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll.

Brilliant lists. The only one of my favourites I did not see was Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel. Especially Bitflippers list could have been written by me except for Rush.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

I refuse to look at those lists (for now anyway). I've gotten into SOOOOO many new bands from these types of threads that I can afford (money or time) to try any other new ones for a while. (Naturally, I'll come back to this thread later though! )

The Goat Rodeo Sessions is one example of a band that just "clicked" with me. Absolutely superb music. And I know there isn't that much love for electronic/techno music around here but I've been consistently partial to a bit of Aphex Twin for the last 20 years or so, and recently the artist Floating Points has floated my boat, particularly the songs "Realise" and "Sais." He paints with audio and I love that. Long term I have always clicked with Joe Jackson, Steely Dan, Frank Zappa and the Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Here are a few. Richard Thompson - In my view the undisputed king. The Strawbs - They have remained a consistent favorite while some others have drifted in and out of favor. Fairport Convention in the Sandy Denny era. King Crimson - The first three albums mainly. Yes Big Big Train Mostly Autumn Karnataka Pink Floyd ELP Chris Rea Genesis up to the departure of Steve Hackett, from that point on they belong on the "do not get" list. Deep Purple. Neil Young Al Stewart Five Hand Reel Steven Wilson (Blown away by the recent album "The Raven who Refused to Sing") Yazoo (the only 80's synth pop band that really appealed to me.) And a special mention for "The Golden Star Band" My favorite Filipino cover band from a very sleazy Dubai back street bar.

I still love early Grand Funk. After they fired Terry Knight and got real producers they lost something, but made more "hits". I hardly ever hear about The Outlaws anymore (not the country collaboration) and Blackfoot.

One of The Outlaws main members guitarist, Hughie Thomasson died. Both he and Rickey Medlocke of Blackfoot played with Lyrnryd Skynyrd for several years, maybe the last decade. Rickey still plays with Skynyrd, but he played with Blackfoot on Strikes and Tomcattin'. Good music! J

Hydra: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVgX0EpKGok Radar (a Georgia band who fit right in with Bruce Hampton and the Hampton Grease Band. They were on the bill at one of the Atlanta International Pop Festivals. I saw them open for Col. Hampton years ago. I can't find any recordings... but they were good! The Candymen. They were Roy Orbison's band. They went on to form Beeverteeth, Atlanta Rhythm Section, and the Classics IV. They were probably the best band I have ever seen, and I've seen a lot of bands. One of Beeverteeth is a regular on this forum. The Roemans. Tommy Roe's band, featuring Berry Oakley on bass. I used to watch them regularly at a converted bowling alley, appropriately named The Bowl, because there was a big sign outside that said, "BOWL". They always started their shows with the instrumental version of Goldfinger. With Berry on bass.. it got your attention. IMO, a GOOD song for any band to add to their song list. Procol Harem fav Live with Conquistidor. Jefferson Starship (only the first album that was actually still Airplane: Blows Against the Empire) I read somewhere that it was actually, It is a Fresh Wind That Blows Against The Empire). CCR The Beach Boys Sly and the Family Stone Ritchie Havens John Prine Paul Revere and the Raiders The Ventures Julien

Michael, I have a piece of wall art in metal that reminds me of that.

Isn't that cool? I think it's fantastic wall art and is very much like the cover. These are a couple of many that are frequent listening. It's not only the music but the memories they bring back.

dmbaer Marillion not so much, yet anyway ... the singer may take some getting used to. Maybe that will be an acquired taste.
I much preferred the FISH material in the early days, but there is no doubt that the later material without FISH is much better developed and defined, and sometimes more satisfying. FISH has a way of trying to be "too meaningful" and then used to come off like a Peter Gabriel copy, which he really wasn't, but later in his solo stuff he got to be very very good. His latest album, is getting some rave reviews and I have not heard it yet. Marillion is on hiatus, and I have a feeling they are done, even though their web site is not saying it. Transatlantic, was not a band that I was interested in as I thought MP was over rated, but after seeing him doing that couple of pieces with Jon Anderson (specially the one from TFTO) was excellent, and even Mike did great, which gave me a new respect for the band. I actually hope that Transatlantic does a full version of TFTO about 3 or 4 times, and record it for a DVD. It will make YES, without Jon just another crap secondary band out there!

Just pulling your leg! I kinda wanted to see the film, but it died and went to heaven so fast. I've always loved (specially) the incredible strength and honesty that Ian showed up in the Policeman's Ball bit (have the DVD's), and some of his stuff. I thought the film might be interesting, but it would be hard to match up to the real thing. By anyone!

You ought to check out who produced that and recorded it. And then go listen to him playing with GONG! One of the best bass players EVAAAAAHHH. Anyone know how/who can take one of the pickups in the Fender Deluxe P Special Bass and have it switched to a humbucker? For the hell of it? This way I would have something similar to Mike's. Is it too "bassy?" (with an open A) is one of my favorite lines from Mike during one warmup in Eugene!

Who cares? Maybe we just don't pigeonhole music Pedro. Everything is there to be enjoyed, or not, regardless of any preconceived notions of it's worth based on 'popularity'.

What you never hear, is not important or valuable or interesting at the least? A bit strange! But I go get a bit sad and sick of the socialist group supporting the top ten, and not having the courage and ability to find something else, and then trash the one that lists something different!

Supporting the Top Ten? I haven't listened to chart stuff with any interest in years, but I've heard every artist you listed. There's nothing 'different' in there, at all. Been listening to that stuff for the last 40-odd years. A lot of it's good, a lot of it's unlistenable - to me. It's all about personal taste you see.
