Since you used plurals I'll throw out Alan Parsons Project & Steely Dan. I still play some of their songs when I'm practicing or jamming with myself. Carry on....

Hey Bapu.... If you're playing that tune you're a far more accomplished musician than myself. :) ('TMI'?...I've got to get out more). Happy Friday all....I'm retired so every day is Saturday. Carry on....

Heh, I completely forgot until now that I'm a member of Steve Bartek's personal forum. A guy I used to work with was Elfman's best friend (they both lived in Malibu and loved B movies). The funny part was that he hated Oingo Boingo's music but was able to get me tickets to their famous Halloween shows down in Irvine Ca. We sat right in the front next to his wife and kid. Damn those were fun...

Rush will top my list. There are a number songs that are not my favorites, but overall, I love watching and hearing these guys play. Joe Satriani is on there, too. Even though I'm not a guitarist, I can appreciate his artistry and technique. A friend of mine described Joe's music as "singing with a guitar." I think that sums it up pretty well. Dream Theater is up there, even though I'm not a die hard fan. Their stuff is very complex and technically brilliant, but sometimes the musicality suffers. I really like their new drummer, though. Mike Mangini is fantastic. Going back, I'd include Kansas, Bad Company, Led Zeppelin, Heart, Boston (1st album), Aerosmith ('70's), Devo (they amuse me), some Uriah Heep, Saga, Shooting Star, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, ZZ Top, and others I can't recall right now. Yeah, I know the list is overly populated with artists from the late '60's through the 70's. To my credit, some of them are still making music today. (Okay, not many, but still...) I'm sure there are more, but those are the ones that raced to the forefront of my mind to get a good seat.

Sadly, their singing is much easier on the ears and more understandable than Cookie Monster vocals (which I call puking into a microphone).

Bubba, you covered about 3/4 of my list right there and can add most of the 70's rock bands like Deep Purple, Robin Trower, Van Halen, and YES even Foghat etc.... A big +1 for Joe Satriani. Also a big fan of Megadeth (especially when Marty Friedman was the lead guitarist), but do like their work.

Those that "did not make it" 1. Clear Light (well, Cliff de Young did go on to be an actor and Douglas Lubahn played bass on some Doors albums) 2. Black Oak Arkansas (I saw them at The Teenage Fair in about '69) 3. Cat Mother & The All Night Newsboys

There are to many to list but... I've been listening to The Dave Brubeck Quartet-Time Out - most all morning. Here is the latest that I think is most excellent....and listened to yesterday most all day while at work. It also has one of my favorite album covers to date.

besides the Beatles Elvis Costello is bye favorite artist ever. Others on the list of artists that I will buy everything they ever put out (but probably aren't household names) include: Tony Carey, October Project, Procol Harum, Marshall Crenshaw, Richard Harris and Lesley Gore.

I was very curious to hear how Morse would handle it...as well as the others. They are such monsters that like so many other greats they could be "look at what I can do" but that's not what I'm hearing. I'm hearing great musicians making some very good music. Even so...not for everybody.

A year ago, I had never heard of Flower Kings. Thanks to a post by bitflipper regarding a documentary about the band, I watched the movie and then picked up one of their albums. Then another. Then another. I'm listening to Stardust We are as I'm writing this. And then there's Transatlantic, the supergroup in which the Flower Kings' front man plays guitar. Love them. Branching from Transatlantic we get to Spock's Beard. Based on the one album I've heard so far, I'm a big fan. Marillion not so much, yet anyway ... the singer may take some getting used to. Maybe that will be an acquired taste.
