Thanks for the new input - I've looked around, but haven't found where I'd find controls to change "hardware acceleration."

Thomas, I'm not sure if you were replying to me or the OP, but I'm on a laptop.

Lorneyb2, good thought on the radiowave interference.  I use wireless reception on this laptop, it's my only choice, so my wife can share the internet connection on her laptop.  Phones - hmm, we have one, I doubt that's the problem though, because this whine sound predates our getting this phone.

I did find in a Google search, someone on a Forum complaining about the exact same problem with their Alesis iO|2, and no viable solution seems to have been posted where I read that.

I dunno.  More things to try when I can find the time.  Meanwhile, I keep my amp down, and the volume control up on the Alesis, that makes the interference tolerable.

Thanks, Zo.  Irritating to me is that my desk top here to my left, with the same kind of cables has Zero digital whine.  We do know that laptops are subject to interference on their USB ports due to the incredibly cramped conditions of their innards.

I have S/PDIF outs on my interface for the Laptop - but nothing to plug them into.  I do have to wonder how they would sound.  My only other choice is what I'm currently using, the phone plug outs.

Hi Randy:

I was replying to the OP. Your problem is a wierd one I've never even heard about til this thread.

Goodluck with finding a fix, though.

Hi guys,

Sorry to resurrect this thread but I have been experiencing this problem too.
There is a low buzzing sound when performing the follow actions:
1) moving the windows around on the desktop by holding on to the left mouse button
2) moving windows with keyboard using the Alt-Space > Move
3) scrolling down pages using the mouse wheel
4) short buzz when opening and closing any application
5) short buzz when desktop changes wallpaper (best of Bing)
I can only hear the buzzing sounds when using headphones and the volume remains at the same level no matter what volume level I set. The strangest thing is that the buzzes can also be heard even when I mute the master volume. The buzzes sound like pulling of zippers. I have muted all recording devices by the way.
My PC is running on dual boot (Win7 and Vista), same problem on both OSes. I already did some searches and tried several things like muting CD Audio but none worked. I have tested using different headphones on the same computer and all can be heard. There was no noise when I used the same headphones on my laptop. I had also tested using Audacity to record on stereo mix to see if the noise can be recorded but thank goodness, it wasn't captured. But it really irritates me a lot
I have heard people saying that this could be due to video card but I have no idea how to solve this and all the drivers are the latest versions. Ok, my sound card is the onboard Realtek card, I don't know if changing it to an external USB (EMU0404 USB) one will help or not.

Does this noise affect the quality of your recordings?

I have had the intermittent zipper sound in track view a few times, if I have no audio playing & use the bar at the bottom to transport to a point earlier or later in project.....  ZZZZZZZIIIIIIIIP!   I have no Idea what causes it.   Maybe my phone was too close as it seems to have happened a few times here & there & then gone away...?
