Rob,
Yes, the Lava Lamp is real. My understanding is that no studio is complete without one, so...
Robo, the trains aren't abandoned, just in limbo. There is way too much time and money invested in creating the parts you see scattered in the background. At some point, it will be functional again. Most of it is in boxes now, but every piece is assembled by hand, historically accurate, and thouroghly researched. It is a snapshot of a small Colorado railroad as it appeared in 1942.
You would be amazed at how many people are into this.
It's just another aspect of creation, really. Music, art, photography, my railroad..not enough time in the day.

You mean.......my studio has been incomplete all this time??????? Is that why I can't write songs correctly????? Is that why my vocals aren't great??? is that why I can't play the piano as good as janet?????

DANG!!!! If I had known that years ago, I'd have gotten one then!!!

talk to you guys later....I'm on the way to the store....

wait a minute. where do you get lava lamps these days???????

The only official substitute for a lava lamp is....dual monitors.

My wife will kill me if she finds out I've shown anyone the mess in her spare bedroom. Just got my Peavey Millenium bass this week, nice guitar and really good price. The Strat is a 1991 which I got from new, and the GIbson is about 1992. The acoustic is older than I am I think.

Lol yea radiator's turned off, the wife has been told never to turn it on too.

I've got a few paintings I've had commissioned over the years, I think that's my favourite and you're right it's Jimmy Page. I took a magazine clipping to a guy I know and he just painted it for me....amazing. Got a few others too, oil and water paints - Hendrix, a couple Jimmy Page, Chuck Berry. When I was single they were all up on the living room wall, these days they're relegated to my little room lol.

Well, I can hardly show my little corner of the livingroom (literally). Not much of a studio. The plan was to have a studio in the basement. Since it would cost about $5,000 for a stair glider, he suggested we move the couch downstairs and set up the living room as my studio. Since we have no friends and rarely have company (seriously), it shouldn't be a big issue. We still have a couple of chairs to sit on if needed. We also have French doors that I could close to keep some of the noise out. We can't close them right now because there is so much stuff in here. So, hopefully we'll do that soon. Get a real desk for recording. Maybe then I'll post a picture.

The recurring theme here is opportunity.
Sure, we have seen pictures of spectacular studios in the Sonar forum, and that's all good and well.
But look at these pictures. A laptop or PC, an interface, and decent software. A space, be it a corner of the living room, or a corner of the basement. For a relatively modest investment, we have access to something that was unthinkable 10 or 15 years ago. This is good stuff, people. Keep the pix coming.

That is exactly my situation. I don't think a full dozen people have come to visit in the five years we've been here, including family, and I don't really care. I like solitude, me, wife and doggies (not necessarily in that order)

That must be why we get along so well Albert. Just replace the doggies with 3 cats and we're the same....well I guess you have to replace the wife with husband too!

We're happy too.

Ha! We, on the other hand, often have 12 people in our house every week! (We work at a school--lots of young people around. Well, 20 somethings--that's young!) That's one reason I wanted to move my studio back into the utility room instead of out in the living room. Too many wires and junk all over the place. And since this is my office too, I'm hoping my husband thinks that sometimes when I'm back here I'm actually working. But I doubt it!

Guitarhacker, how do you keep so organized? LOL, You should see my setup, it's ridiculous as to how unorganized I am. I should mention the rest of the house is perfectly organized. My problem is everybody seems to think that where I am at is a "STORAGE UNIT". LOL, it pains me to be nice sometimes. Just because ya have a big room in your house everyone you know seems to think you could watch after their stuff for a little while. I want make that mistake again. Oh well, maybe that's my lack of practicing problem : "Too many things to dodge", Nah, that ain't it, I'm just lazy and need to be more disciplined as to what I am doing.

Is this a common practice with everyone who plays music to be unorganized? I mean do we all "NOT waste time on organization where we record?". Just wondering.

Hey, no offense meant by anything that I said and I hope you don't take it that way. Just thought I would mention that.

LOL, your setup looks like mine, I mean you have to walk around very carefully just to get from point A to point B. No offense meant. Where I'm recording is a wreck. I've gotta do something about that.

A Strange thing is though, I seem to be able to find stuff and know where it is most of the time......

Bobby,
I gotta admit that the area outside of what the camera shows is cluttered beyond recognition.
However, I do like to keep my "zone" fairly clear. Someday I may clean the rest of it up.
But right now, there are important projects to attend to.
