Apple Mac Classic was my first computer. It was that lunchbox design with the small black and white screen (yay lamo graphics). I couldn't tell you the specs on it but it was old-school even when I got it. I only used it for writing papers and such, though, no music or anything fun. My first music computer was a home-made PIII 533mhz with 128megs of RAM and a 14gig HDD running Win98SE. I later added 256megs more RAM and a second, 40gig HDD. After sitting in my closet for 5+ years I actually cleaned it up last year and gave it to my brother ... and it still works! I gave it a fresh install of XP, of course .

in 1983 i got my first. It was a Lambda a little laptop with NO use at all! Then on to VIC 20, CBM64 and in 1985 i imported the very first AMIGA 1000 to denmark. I actually payed around 2500$ for it. I still have it and i will never get rid of it. Then it was AMIGA 2000, and on to AMIGA 1200. On amiga i used the DR.T. software and i really enjoyed working with it and funny enough i sometimes i get back to my amiga 1200 and play around with that great (for the time) piece of sequencer software... In 1996 i bought my first PC. it was a Pentium 286 with 64 MB ram, 100 MB HD, 2 MB creative soundblaster and a Matrox graphicscard with 2 mb ram. To day im using a Pentium core2 Quad with 4GB of ddr3 ram, 3 Hd's, in all 1.5 TB, Nvidia graphics with 1GB ram and Delta 44 audiocard...ive come a long way since 1983

Started with an Amiga 500 and added 4 meg of ram. Then to the 4000, which I just sold on Ebay a couple of weeks ago. Amiga had some of the coolest music programs , like Bars& Pipes (which is still used today by using Winaue front end, Dr.T's keyboard sequencer, Laurie Speigel's Music Mouse (which was an algorythmic composing app.) and "M". These programs generated some of the best creativity from me Time moves on! Cheers, Wolf

That Atari game console had a cartridge called Basic Programming (if then, goto, string....ect.). I guess that was my first dose of the digital drug. Then I got an IBM PC I think it was a 240....no hard drive...had to use a big old 5 1/2 DOS boot disk just to get her up and running. I've tried to quit over the years....and in reality I can quit anytime I want....really......but....(breathing erratic...sweat beads on forehead...mind racing)....the new quad 8's are coming out.....and....maybe a twelve step program...(ooo the p word)....would help......Step 1 first you have to admit you have a problem......Step 2 then you.....o forget it....hey buddy can you spare a buck for a cup of coffee or maybe an extra gig RAM...sniff

The funny thing about the atari games console though was the bar codes, because they didn't want to license a new one they kept re-using the same one instead of licensing new ones.. so they have a load of games in their back catalog which all have the same barcode. It confuses the heck out of anyone who collects the games from what I've seen mentioned elsewhere. I used to play the atari in a local supermarket while my folks went shopping.. how good was combat? hehe

ORIGINAL: Greg Hendershott [Cakewalk] First computer was a Commodore 64. Second was a Compaq Portable. Tricked out with a Plus Development Corp. Hard Card, a ginormous 10 MB (yes MB) hard drive on an expansion card. I mean, kids these days. What with all their interwebs and computers that run without you having to stoke coal in the firebox. U-Oh....... Does marketing know you're out of your cage Greg? - Good you see you 'round. - And thanks for the ride.

I also used to have one of these: PONG, BABY!!! I didn't have one of these, but I remember them at my work place at the time they came out. My current IT department has this ad posted on one of their office doors.

This is the first one I worked on and used in 1976. Of course we didn't have a 160K disk drive until 1977. We made it from a kit at school. CPU ran at 2 Mhz if I remember right. We had to boot the thing with the front panel switches with 20-30 machine code commands. Then load the OS with a cassette tape. A lot of the video games people stuffed quarters into back in the 70's used that processor. I think we had 8K of RAM in the thing. The printer was a teletype. I think it ran at 110 baud....Wow, what a screamer.
