Bub

spacey

We were doing a cover of Sultans Of Swing and we did
it good- ... The lead came around and I went blank. Totally lost-didn't
even know what key we were in to just fake it...horrible...just horrible...there was nothing
that could un-do the damage. I've never forgot that and probably never will.
That happened to me one night. We would close out set 3 with Hotel California. The keyboard player hit a sour note right at the break going in to the lead and we looked at each other and made eye contact and my mind went blank. I seem to remember instinctively going in to some kind of Johnny B. Goode type lead and tried to save it, but it was too late.

I guess it's something we've all experienced huh Bub? Just a natural thing from being human
first. Sure doesn't help change the results and knowing that all the practice in the world isn't going
to prevent it from happening again. Just a really bad deal when you know it's something that you
can never control.
At least your natural instinct was cool - I think I did that circus part of Yakety Sax.

That video is sure to go viral.  At least in the CH.  Can't wait.

It will be viral the minute Mooch prepares it, whether it gets released or not.

Just sayin...

Mooch wash yer hands before doing any video editing.

It was funny and fun watching those two in the original French film "La Cage au Folles" ... who'se to say that this new interpretation won't be as funny or better?

I'm thinking it's going to be much better but I'm going to wear protective gear anyway just to be on the safe side.

Once I see that it is safe I shall watch it wearing my normal casual wear which of course is a thin but thorough coating of donut jam.

On a serious note (Am), Bapu (old or new) and Beagle are two of the Coffee House regulars I respect the most.  You guys welcomed me in here when I fled the carnage upstairs.  I didn't read your posts because of your post count.  I don't read anyone's posts because of their post count.  I've enjoyed getting know you over the last year or more.  Sure, a lot of the jokes are silly.  Sure, there's repetition.  That was part of the joke.

I understand the concern that some have that the CH was full of silly threads and +1 type posts.  What I have not heard, is anyone saying that they were unable to post what they wanted to say.  Just because some people are posting threads that are goofy, unfunny, repetitious, or not to one's tastes, does not mean that one is unable to post their own threads.  If you don't like it, post your own stuff.  If you don't want +1 replies to your thread, say so.  I've seen people here respect that.  If you want to post a serious topic, call it serious, and it will be treated accordingly.  If you don't want to read Becan posts, say something else.  If you don't like what you see here, maybe it's because you haven't written it yet.  Perhaps, if you'd write it, we'd all jump in and add to it, and our collective experience would benefit from it.

I wouldn't have written any threads about guitar building, but I've been fascinated to read Spacey's threads on the subject.  I don't have some of the great touring stories to tell, but I've sure enjoyed reading all of yours.  Everyone has a point of view, a sense of humour, a story, and a life to share.  That's one of the great things about this Coffee House.  Everyone has whatever time on the stage they want.

In short, there's room for everyone to post whatever they want to say without asking anyone else to stop.  Just because some folks are more prolific posters does not limit someone else's ability to post.

There are threads that haven't even been written yet.  I'm looking forward to reading them.

Do you know this or is it an educated guess?

Either way I'm full of admiration for your insight.

What will they be about these unwritten threads?  I'm hoping some will be about the appeal of small rodents as pets.

My pitiful observations on the meltdown, gangs, and turd in the punchbowl.

I saw some of the most vocal participants in this latest melee  here break down and show us their most basale id, we saw them at the bottom. Most of the CH rallied around with empathy , care, concern , and words of encouragement.Hardly can this be called an uncaring forum. So the good has to be taken with the bad(if you want to call the yas/post count/buffonery bad).

The turd in the bowl was a bomb. One user who has been constistently called on the carpet for his narrow one sided views has managed to tear this place asunder with one hell of a bomb.

All this will pass. I am sad to see some  friendships rended asunder.

Re:Open letter to the guys. 2012/04/19 12:58:28 (permalink)
I see the comments by Randy as yet another confirmation that a change needed to happen. I don't think Randy is the kind of person to try to rain on anyone's parade. And I believe he sincerely likes many of the people here(pardon me Randy if I am overstepping here)

Some of the things that were happening made others feel like Randy including me. I won't continue to beat a dead horse here, but I feel that the comments of at least a half dozen people on the CH are valid and don't equate to any strong arming or attempted "policing" of the CH.

I have to respectfully hand it to Bapu,he acknowledged what some viewed as a problem ,even though he himself didn't see it as such and decided to change his actions a little bit for the good of the group. Whether you think it was necessary or not is inconsequential to his outstanding character and willingness to cooperate.

If you told me, "Hey Tim,lay off that nutty UFO talk"...I would do that. If I'm causing some kind of discomfort to other posters in a way taken as inconsiderate, then I would hope that you would correct me. Real friends do this all the time.

OTOH if we continue to attack what we consider to be the bad guys in unconstructive hateful ways, will that make it any better?

How often does it do any good to hate and mistreat the hated yet more? If they were calloused before how much more calloused do you think heaping huge servings of hate on them will help? I have never yet seen any kind of a major attitude adjustment result from this behavior.

Those people who keep being mentioned as the *bad* people on the forum might become more cordial and less bad with a helping of friendliness as opposed to a shot of hate. Even in the worst case scenario,if they are still bad after you do everything right,at least you won't be drawn into their liar.

There are some people here that are  more forgiving and less concerned about the situation that had developed.More power to ya'. If the subject had not been brought to the forefront I seriously doubt I would have ever publicly addressed my concerns and thoughts. I would have rolled with it even though it left a bad taste in my mouth.

The dialog has been good overall IMO. There is not a *them* and *us* here, It is *we*,good, bad, indifferent or whatever. We make it what it is. *they* can come to the CH and post and *we* can go over there and post. This is a big fair and all of the rides are open here.

I don't see this as a dictatorship at all. I don't feel like we can't still kid around and have fun . IMO some of the perceptions I'm hearing are a bit overstated and overblown.

I'm no "hater" and I'm pretty sure my past posts and such will prove that (although if you find something incriminating fer gawds sake keep it to yorself...I'll make it worth yor while).  But most all of the so called "hateful" folks (whoever that might mean to you Starise, ol pal...I know who they are to me) have been given ample opportunities through jovial, collegial inclusion and "olive branch" like offers to drop their "hateful" ways.  Some even have for a minute or two.  But, so far, they've mostly devloved back into their typical ol pruney selves as rapidly as they could.  Honest.  I wish that weren't so.  But thems just the facts, Jack.  YMMV.

Seriously.....I know some people will never change, some people eventually change, some people are like nuts hard on the outside but soft  inside. You probably know better than I do who is who. Some people actually enjoy being unhappy,a hobby like golf or bowling. Unhappy people like to make other people unhappy ...so it is a struggle no doubt.

.so it is a struggle no doubt.

I have struggled for years, heck decades.....................with my own negativity.................

Deep inside me is a sympathetic, empathetic, caring person whom wishes everyone the best and wants the best for all.

Unfortunately theres a firm crust of negativity and  narcissism that surrounds my internal optimist.

I battle every day to free the internal good within myself.

A lot times I don't win that battle,other times I do.

Zungle considering the recent surgery you went through I think you are doing pretty well!..as far as i have heard.

When I think of potential trouble makers you are not one of them.

I have the same struggles man. I think that any person who is objective and not living in la la land can't be Mr. Happy at all times. A proper world view invites a stoic perception in my case.

I think that in addition to outside influences, some of us are genetically prone to deeper bouts of depression and negativity.

Exercise and proper diet/rest certainly contribute. I have fought melancholy for years. The real me isn't melancholy, but the physical me is constantly fighting  it.
