Opening a Sonar 1 bundle file in X1
I was digging through the archives today and found and old project I want to re-visit. It was created in Sonar 1 and still opens and plays fine in Sonar 1. I did a "save as" a .bun file and it saved without a problem. I went to open it in X1 but no cigar. I get an error message that it's not compatible and I could try safe mode but that doesn't work either. I could dig through the audio file directory to try to locate the files and rebuild the project but that would be time consuming due to the old audio file system. I'm not concerned about the plug-ins from the old project, I would just like to have the original files, tracks etc. where they should be. Are there any easier options out there. Thanks. Rocky

Could you create a new Projects directory on the old machine and open the bun into it, then copy the stuff over to the new machine?

Are these on the same computer? If so, try opening the project in SONAR 1. Open a blank project in X1. In the SONAR 1 project, go to Edit>Select All. Then Edit>Copy. Then in SONAR X1, go to Edit>Paste.

Bun files in the past where known to produce corrupt files. This was fixed in much latter versions of Sonar. What you may want to do is send the file to CW to see if they can extract the wav files. I'm not saying this is the problem but it sure sounds like it. Also X1/X2 should be able to uncompress the files if not than its most likely corrupt.

Also, here's a little trick: If you rename your .bun file extension to .wav, you can load it into SONAR as one long audio file with all of your clips back-to-back. Though, it's a hassle to cut it up and line everything up again.

Hmm normally SONAR X1 or X2 would open BUN files dating back to SONAR 1 without problems. Have you tried saving a wrk or cwp file and copying over that along with the associated wavedata directory to your SONAR X1 machine? It may just open fine from the project file instead rather than the bundle. Alternatively if you put your bundle online somewhere I could do some forensic analysis and try and load it :)

The wav data is mixed in the audio folder for all projects. I don't remember the version that started per project audio folders. 4? I think Bill's solution will work. Thanks for the offer to check it out. You guys Rock!!! Rocky

I have had mixed success in opening old .bun files created in CWP8.... some opened OK and others were "corrupted" and did not open. I would suggest opening the file in the old machine then saving it as a normal project into a USB drive. Be sure it saves all the audio data with it in the same folder. ..... then, attempt to open it from the USB drive on the new machine. It should open and run properly,,,,, just save it into a new folder on the new machine.
