I'd go for the TSAR 1 if it were designed to work in ProChannel and I could buy it without buying the whole package of tools.

Hmmm...   A $50-ish ProChannel version of TSAR1?   Yeah, I could certainly do that.   Without an ilok.

If it was available, I'd buy that today even if it did have an Ilok as I already have one.

Djwayne,

The TSAR 1R is available as a ProChannel Module....it's BOTH a VST and ProChannel module in the Mix Bundle...

So I'm not sure if the new TSAR 1R will give you the PC mod or not...

Yes I know that they have a Pro Channel Reverb Module, but can you buy it seperately without spend $179 for the whole package ??

I went to Softube's webpage, and listened to their reverb demo's, they sound great.

They also are selling the reverb only for Reason users for $49.

If they'd sell the Pro Channel version of it for $49 I'd buy it right now.

I think the VST TSAR 1R is on sale at Audiomidi for $59.99

I use the Lexicon PCM quite a bit, also the EMT250 and the 140 (since re-named) from UAD2, the Pantheon still has some nice useable stuff as does Perfect Space. I lean on the Lexicon and the UAD more than the others. Still trot out the RealVerb Pro once in a while too:-). I've come to rely on the hardware less and less which is a shame in a way because some of the older Eventide and Lexicon boxes have some great stuff in them but they just have too many shortcomings in terms of practical employment in an automated environment.

Thanks for the heads up, but I'm looking for the PRO CHANNEL MODULE REVERB, not a plug in, I've already have a zillion plug-in reverbs.

Unless I missed it.....

No one seems to like the default Cake reverbs that come with Cake DAW's.

I like and use the Studioverb II in cake on just about all my projects.  On vocals,   guitars,  and basically anything else that needs verb including in the master buss for the overall verb shine.

I have very few "other verbs".  I have but don't like or use the verb in Ozone..... and recently when I got X1 I found I have a new "freebie" verb in it, which I have started to experiment with but find myself deleting it quite often and popping Studioverb II in the bin.

djwayne,

The VST includes the Pro Channel Module...they come together ...at least in the Mix Bundle they do...

I'd check with Softube to see if they include the PC module with the TSAR1-R...at $60 bucks that's a good deal anyways...

Well in the Mix Bundle it might be a different story. The problem with software is that if it isn't exactly what you want, you can't return it, so you have to be very certain of what you buy BEFORE you buy it. This Pro Channel version may not come with the standard vst, so I have to be careful and it has to state that in the product info before  I buy it. The Lite version may be just a water down version of the TSAR-1R I don't know. You have to be careful with details, or else you get stuck with lousy software.

The TSAR1-R that comes in the Mix Bundle is the same
one that they are selling separately now for $99 on the Softube site,
but available for $59.99 at AudioMidi.  I would inquire at Softube
to find out if they are including the PC Mod with the TSAR1-R.

If they do...then I would buy it from AudioMidi because they just give you download link
from Softube....that's $40 bucks saved....

It is scaled down..it doesn't have as many adjustment options as
the TSAR1, but it's still very nice!!

I absolutely love Nomad Factory's Blueverb for acoustic stuff. I also use my Yamaha 01V96 with VCM plugs as a realtime FX via ADAT, and the Rev-X Hall is superb for long verbs.

I've been burned with "lite" versions before. They prove to be a waste of money if you go ahead and buy the full version.

I'm downloading the 20 day free trial of the TSAR-1R now, so I'll try it out before I buy anything.

Well I downloaded the trial of the TSAR-1R and yes it works as a Pro Channel Module !!

If the "TSAR-1R" and the "TSAR 1R Lite" are the same, I'd buy it right away. I really like how the TSAR-1R works and sounds. My guess is that they are the same, but I want to verify that.

Yippee I'm making progress, at least I know a Pro Channel Reverb Module is available seperately !!

What's throwing me off is that the picture in your ad is a different model than the TSAR-1R that I have. My unit only has two sliders, which is the model I want. The picture in the ad shows 5 sliders...that's a different model, so I'm not sure about it. The one I got from Softube is available for $99.00 and I know it works as a Pro Channel Module, so I may go with that.

LOL...I don't have an ad...

They are showing the TSAR-1, which is the $250 dollar version...which has 5 sliders...

And I don't think that one has a PC Module...

The TSAR-1R is the "lite" version....and has 2 sliders...

I believe if you buy the TSAR full version, you also get the TSAR-1R bundled with it.

I'm starting to think you're right on the 1R being the lite version.

I've got an e-mail sent to Softube's official distributor who recently had a sale on the 1R's for $66, we'll see what they say.

In the meantime I have the 20 day demo to play with. It really does sound good, and is simple to understand. It's just what I was looking for.

Re:Opinions on Best Vocal Reverb Plugin 2012/07/04 18:03:48 (permalink)
I just did a bunch of sound checks with the TSAR-1R on male and female vocals, 12 string guitar, Ivory II piano, Session Drummer 3, saxaphone, acoustic guitar and electric guitar....all sound good enough for me. I love having the convience of it being in the Pro Channel. It's fairly simple to dial in a good sounding reverb too. This will work.

I already have an iLok so all I had to do was download a key and the demo program, and I was up and running it about 10-15 minutes. It couldn't be much easier. It works flawlessly with Pro Channel. Not one glitch. I did have to move the Softube file into the Cakewalk VST folder, but after that, Sonar found it right away. For some reason that seems to happen with all my VST programs.

Nobody's mentioned NI Reflektor? Runs under the Guitar Rig shell but is a fully featured convolution reverb and best of all, it adds only a neglible amount of latency (unlike Perfect Space, which is useless when tracking).

I agree with Cali....it sounds really good...

While convolution reverbs are great...they also very CPU intensive...

And there isn't YET a ProChannel Convolution Reverb....get busy Bakers!!!

I would've agreed five or six years ago, but with today's PCs I don't feel it's a problem. How many reverb instances are used in a session anyway?

I stay away from convolution reverbs because there are just too many choices of spaces and I end up getting lost in my work flow while demo'ing spaces, looking for the one that is "just right." I can demo spaces for hours and still not have what I want.  The TSAR-1R is much easier to use and I can find a great sound in very little time. Plus it's set up to work in Pro Channel.

Don't like the iLok, though. How do you feel it works for Rooms? That's one area where convolution fails IMO.

Ok...let me rephrase....

they are MORE CPU intensive then Algorithmic reverbs....

And are more memory intensive as well...as you have to
load IR's which can be quite large.

If you did an A - B Comparison of CPU use......CR would lose...

Not that today PC's can't handle it....it's just a statement....

I like PerfectSpace....it's decent for free...

I also have Reflektor...and a bunch of other CR's....

But djwayne's original question was about a PROCHANNEL Reverb..which is what I was responding to,...
not the original BEST reverb....

Personally I like 2C Audio Aether...it sounds very ALIVE...but that's just me...if I could afford it I'd buy it...
I've been waiting patiently for it to go on sale...

I highly recommend getting the demo...
Even Breeze, it's little brother, sounds really good...

Re:Opinions on Best Vocal Reverb Plugin 2012/07/05 10:44:35 (permalink)
I think it's okay for rooms. For vocals, piano and acoustic guitar, I just want a touch of reverb, just a touch of ambience, just so it's not dry, and not an outer space type effect..and I can get this with the TSAR-1R. If I want the long trails, I can get that too. The TSAR-1R does everything I want it to do. I've been demo'ing it quite a bit and I feel it'll be a great addition to my Pro Channel rack.

I also found some demo's of the Vallhalla Room reverb, yes it's got a nice sound, but it's a sound to itself. You just play one note and it goes on and on forever...great for ambience, outer space type recordings, but that's not what I'm after.

Apparently it's no longer on sale, I double checked the website and now it says it's available for $99.00.
