Orion The Hunted Mix 5 (Final?)

Hi Everyone,

Bit different this from me.

"Orion The Hunter" top of the page here:

http://www.reverbnation.com/markstothard

It's not finished yet. I'm hoping to add another  2 minutes, but have ran out of ideas at the moment.

Sounds better with some subwoofers.

Thanks
Mark.
Edit:
Changed quite a bit of this track. Added a bit of Choir and Duduk. It still ends sudden, but i wanted it like this.

Thank you all for your comments, and advice.

Well this was cool, but I didn't expect it to end? I had it playing through the phones and I was bopping along, looked at something else while listening and "it stopped." I thought maybe my Internet went down? But it was up? :-/

Wow this has a BIG sound...I agree with rockinrobby.  It does stop suddenly...Add those two minutes!  This would be great in a gladiator/roman war movie when the troops are clashing.  At least that is what I hear!

    Thanks for letting me listen!

Thanks Robby. Sorry to confuse you like that, but i did put a disclaimer "not finished yet" on my original post. :-)

Thank you too Pat. Really appreciate the listen and comments.

I meant to say this is very short and i have ran out of ideas as this is the first time i have done a track like this. So would appreciate some ideas on how to take it forward.

    Thanks again
    Mark.

I like it so far. Big sound for sure. Must be some kind of planetary alignment thing going on, with so many of us trying new directions.
I can hear this rolling into a short timpani  or drum bit, then exploding with a full-on orchestral onslaught.
Looking forward to hearing the rest of it.

Great start there, Mark.  I liked the build and felt you had a good mix of synth lines and textures.  Cool drums too, but maybe a tad loud.  Eager to hear more.

it builds superbly, very evocative and soundtrack-esque. personally i prefer the real instruments and find the more synthy patches a bit out of place, but that's just a personal preference. be interesting to hear if it goes in a more expansive or more gothy direction...

Robert: Thank you. That’s the thing with this track, i just don’t know where to take it. Exploding into full-on orchestral onslaught sounds like the right direction though.

Cheers Philz, I knew something was wrong with the drums. Will get to work on the volume.

Hi Mark: I understand what you mean by preferring real instruments. I do too. But I’ve got to say this is the most fun I’ve had creating a track.
Usually I’m stressed out too much trying too hard to get the instruments to sound real. Composing like that takes me away from the creative process and the songs end up sounding bland.

With this i didn’t have that problem. I wasn’t concerned about them sounding real and just went with it.

Thanks for the listen and input.

    Thank you very much Radio.

I like this track a lot. The snare drum's way out front though. Maybe bring it back in the mix a tiny bit. It left me waiting for more, also.

Interesting, because I'm working on a piece right now and just can't figure out where it needs to go.  Maybe we should swap 'first verses' sometime.  lol

If it were me, I'd continue on with something like you have here but make a dominant instrument take over a cool melody line.  I really really like what you have so far.  I hope you can find the inspiration to keep it going.

But I definitely feel your pain!

I was  wondering what happened to you only the other day - not seen you around here much.

Anyhow, your tune....... reminded me a bit of Jean Michel Jarre's "revolutions" period. When you said it wasn't finished I thought you meant mix wise and then it just ended like the player had cut out or something. I think to finish I'd be inclined to persue the same sort of theme but gradually make it more and more authentic orchestral sounding so that it starts as one thing but ends up as another whilst still being the same if that makes sense.

Scotty: Thank you my friend. I have lowered the snare. Thanks for pointing that out.

Janet: Is the song you mention ‘End of the road’? If so you have found where it needs to go. Such a wonderful track that is.  Thanks very much for the listen.

Hi Paulo: Nice to see you are still kicking around here. Really nice of you to be thinking about me also.
Jarre has been an inspiration to me over the years. I’ve been to see him in concert three times now.  I loved the revolutions album too.

I love the idea you suggest so much. To finish it off orchestral  sounding.
It’s like my interest i music.
I started off loving electronic music. Then my interest swayed towards classical later on in life To finish this track off in the same way is what i am going to do now.
Thank you so much for this idea Paulo.

Hi Tom: Really appreciate you stopping by for a listen. I wont be able to get back to this until Thursday at the earliest but i’ve got some really great ideas now thanks to everyone.

    just for your info

Orion the Hunter was the brainchild of former Boston co-lead guitarist Barry Goudreau

it was a 1980s rock combo and offshoot of the popular band Boston.

Orion the Hunter featured Bruce Smith on the bass and ex-Heart drummer Michael DeRosier. The album also included Brad Delp, former lead singer of Boston.

that said, it's a cool arrangement, and the sounds are pretty neat, but too obviously synth for my personal taste.
recording this with live instruments would really set it off.

Wow!  This sends shivers up my spine for its incremental orchestral pomp (if that makes sense)

Sounds like an ELO album intro ... but much much better.

10/10 for outlandish force of beauty coupled with a flawless orchestral performance.  My fav of yours to date and my fav of the forum for orchetral overtures.

    Vechung: Thank you

Thank you too Tony, really appreciate it

    Batsbrew: Thank you for that bit of information, however i got my idea from this;

Orion, often referred to as The Hunter, is a prominent constellation located on the celestial equator and visible throughout the world. It is one of the most conspicuous, and most recognizable constellations in the night sky. Its name refers to Orion, a hunter in Greek mythology.
Thanks for the nice comments too.

Your comments mean so much to me Larry, thank you very kindly.

Wow Philip. I am totally humbled by those comments. I love ELO a lot, and to be even mentioned in the same breath has them is a great honour indeed. Really, really inspired by these comments, thank you so very much.

I'm sorry it took so long to reply and I will hopefully have the finished version up by the end of next week.

    Thank you all again.

    Mark.
