Sheesh. I paid something like $400, maybe more, for the real thing back in the day. And it was pretty awful, to be perfectly honest. But I suppose that awfulness was a big part of its charm.
 
I can't imagine anyone using that cheesy spring reverb on vocals today. Then again, the whole "lo-fi" trend took me completely by surprise and still confounds me. Plus maybe the extreme wow and flutter is just a reaction to today's obsession with auto-tuning. The Space Echo is the opposite of Autotune.


All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

 The new EDM vocal sound is the old Alvin and the Chipmunks.
