Oyster Of Life - REMIXED 8/6 with new intro and outro
Hi everybody, I have been working on the mix of this new song for the last week or so, and I'm ready for some feedback. I'm still undecided whether or not this will go with the collection of songs that I'm preparing for my next CD, so any help or suggestions from you will be welcome. This song initially began as a lark from a comment made by my significant other, but quickly took on a life of its own. Thanks in advance for your time and contrilbutions. It can be found here: http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=11775366&q=hi&newref=1 8/6/12 I've taken many of your ideas and came up with this. Here is the remixed version titled "Oyster Of Life 2": http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=11812564&q=hi&newref=1

Sounds great Lynn but wheres the intro section , it sort jumps right into the music . The start of your tune almost sounds like I picked out a spot somewhere in the middle of the verse and started playing it . I like it , has a nice vibe about it sipping a cool marty on the beach !LOL James

Nice tunage there! I like this song a lot. To me, it sounds like the vox could use some phaser but that's just me. I like how it jumps right in and gets going right away. I like the different sections and how they move. I think 2:43 should be a more dramatic slowdown though. The last chord should be a French 6th chord that way it's more tension for people expecting more. (maybe an Italian 6th) I like how it just ends too! What a great song!!! You seem to like that wide sounding mix. I'm not sure I like that style but it is a very good mix.

This is real upbeat and energetic. I like it! GP's suggestion of phaser on the vox is a good one. I think it would top it off nicely.

There is a lot to like here. I think the synth passages need to do something slightly different to demarc them from the verses. Maybe add some other element.

@James, aka The Night Fox, thanks for your time. I kinda meant to have a shorter intro that some of my other songs which often go on and on. I'd be glad to join you on the beach. @ GP, I like your phaser idea. This is what I'm looking for. I'll try it out today. I'll also take a listen to the bridge and that last chord. All good ideas. @Scotty, thanks for your comments. I like the phaser idea, too. I'll try it on for size, shortly. @jamesyoyo, thanks for listening. Your idea excites me, too. I'll give it a spin, and maybe that's what it needs for a few degrees of separation. @Warrenlee, thank you so much for looking at the big picture. I can't wait to get started on this, but first I must get fully awake. You all are terrific contributors.

Hi Lynn, Cool song. Solid song. Loved the lead synth and the melody passage at 1:07 for e.g The guys are right the intro is to abrupt, even a synth faded in slowly from soft to loud, ending on a crash of beat 1 would be better me thinks. Regards, Cian

Great stuff! Yes, looking forward to the intro, surely needed. Also, the vocals need to come up front a bit. The ending took me for a suprise, I wood fade it out with a reverb tail or something, a bit abrubt. Singing was good as were the lyrics (just need to come up a bit). Great song when done for sure. Peace be with you. Blessings, John

The vocals need lot of work. They weren't even close to being in tune. There is a lot of opportunity for improvement there. Also, the synths sounded really thin and cheesy. Finally, it would be better to come up with a more original riff to the song.

Shawn, thanks for you kind comments and your new wedding song, "Lovemamba". John, there's a new intro on the horizon, and I agree about the vocals needing to come up. As for the ending, I have so many songs that fade out that I was looking for an abrupt ending to go between two songs that fade out for a little change. Thanks for participating in this production, and peace to you, as well. Kaushal, it's a pleasure to know your son liked my song and to know that someone in Asia is listening. Thanks for taking the time to listen and reply. Pete, I'm of two minds in regard to your comments. First, I want to apologize to you for offending your ears and wasting your time. Second, I want to give you my humble thanks for giving me the courage to go back to my day job without feeling guilty ;)

Interesting presentation, I don't care for the synth strings much, but what I thought was a percussion thing going back and fourth seems to be the attack on the acoustic guitars, it's a pretty cool effect. I like the snare sound, but it "may" be a little bit too present in the mix. It's also cool the way this stops after "They oyster of life" and then in the end it just stops? I was waiting for it to kick back in :-) I love a big plate full of Oysters on the half shell!

Nice one Lynn. My only crit is the 'cut like a knife' line. It's probably a personal thing. I just think it's way over used. Nice tune.

Hi Lynn, nice one, I like the opening, though the end is a bit abrupt. Acoustic guitar could be louder imho, now I only hear pick noise and not much else. Great vocals,. Good job ,Sir. Rik

Robby, I just love oyster, too. As for the synth and strings, I'm not crazy about them anymore, myself. I'm going to try some different textures in those parts. I'm never sure about the snare volume because some like it hot and some don't. Thanks for contributing to this song. Tim, thank you for your compliment. Darn that Bryan Adams! He stole my line before I knew what was happening. I could have gone with "cuts like a wife", but then someone would have said I was ripping off Lorena Bobbit. Freddy, thanks for the comments about the lyrics. As stated earlier, the intro is going to evolve. Ed, thank you for the comments, especially about the bass line, as I know that is your specialty. Rikkie, you're right on about the volume of the acoustics. I was afraid of them being too loud since they are doubled, but I will bring them up in the next mix. Again, I want to thank all of my coproducers for your time and help.

Not sure you need a longer intro... possibly just the same notes but not as full a production (or processed so that it sounds like it's from a tinny mono radio or something like that?). Great song - great production - and I like the variation between sections. Cheers, Terry.

Terry, thanks for the suggestion. I like your idea about the intro a lot, and it makes sense to reduce it rather than expand it. This is the kind of ideas that I love to hear. I love the beginning to your new album, btw.

lol, yep here's me suggesting that you take it down a notch in your intro when the intro to my new album is overly bombastic and 'in yer face'... hypocritical much? Cheers, Terry.

Hi Lynn, This song groove seems really solid but I do sort of agree that the synth seems somewhat out of place. How about a Tijuana Brass type approach where the synth becomes some horn section stabs? The song already has a border music feel... maybe some horns? Anyways, I usually refrain from saying stuff like that... but I really like the rhythm section groove you have going and I'm hearing horns in my head. :-) all the best, mike

Lynn, this rocks.. I like it a lot. I find myself listening to it again and again. Trying to learn from the mix, and the way you have your drums and bass here. Also the warmth and wideness, and where your bass is. The other percussive elements are something I've been trying to do with my stuff for a long time. What really gets me is how all these instruments come through so clearly, and nothing is too loud, or too quiet. I like the synths and snare... I guess we all have different ears. Laters..

sounds good but something is missing. some effect sounds delorian inside of d-pro maybe. you have played some breaks but you didn't care enough. the second break starts up too early try to play it abit longer. (only some milliseconds). all in all a very good work.
