POSITIVE THREAD: Share some tricks, tips and success stories using X2 here
I've been putting scratch tracks together for a new album the past week or so. Despite the quirks the Ruler Zoom, Take Lanes, improved audio engine and PRV have been making things a lot easier on me for tracking and preliminary editing versus X1. I've already mixed a couple tunes using some of the new effects last fall and they're great too. Particularly TH2 and R-Mix and X2 seems to handle the LP-64 effects much better because I don't lose sound when making tweaks (audio engine improvements). You?

Well? Get on with it. Ya'll wanted a positive thread. Here she be. Also I never really used much in the way of automation envelopes in the past aside from just tweaking volume/gain before X2 but now that I'm moving in that direction I sure as heck don't think I'd like dealing with the pile of spaghetti the old way was. +1 to Automation Lanes.

*sigh* Must I do everything?! Not X2 related but a nice feature I didn't have on my ancient Steinberg rig is the Multi-Dock coupled with the FX bin is brilliant. Instead of having a few dozen effects windows open and having to sort through what was controlling what I can just press D and kabingo it's there. Don't need it? Close the tab. Need it again click the effect in the bin. Probably something that gets taken for granted but that was a godsend for me.

I started using the console emulation a few songs ago, and I love it! I think my latest mixes have more of an analog sound than ever before. I also like the improvements in PRV that have made working with MIDI clips faster than ever before. Sadly, it all works as advertised for me so I must be part of the vast CW conspiracy.

John Tip; do what Beepster did and Read The Manual! Well... to be fair I'm only about a third of the way through. Needed to put some of that in action before it got lost in the vortex that is my mind. I was going a little batty too. Will probably get back to it next week after I fiddle around with my current musical endeavor a little more. Then I have to make sure I redeem my Groove 3 pass. Oh yeah... FREE STUFF! BRILLIANT!!

hey beep.hope all is good buddy. :) i like auto zoom because of its incorperation with auto snap..at first i was like confused to worlds end by it,but now i love it.think about it,before you used to have to go and switch to a different resolution, time, Example:1/8 - 1/4 / - 1/2. now theres that option to have it set normally then use a second setting,or let zoom pick it. one of the better things i like is last note touched in prv. at first i though my prv was broken, then irealized how that worked. i love it.. peace buddy.

Lynn I started using the console emulation a few songs ago, and I love it! I think my latest mixes have more of an analog sound than ever before. I'll give that a real +1. After watching Craig Anderton's video's, and resetting the desk on a few projects and adding the CE to all the tracks and buses then redoing all my EQ's and effects, I did hear a difference. I even A/B'd it with and without the +2db Trim increase he recommends. Your mind can trick you with the 'louder is better' thing, so I set it at 0db and adjusted the 'Depth. I still heard a difference. Not Earth shattering, but it was a difference and I did like it. The only thing bad, if you can call it that, that I have run in to is, when you do use the +2db Trim adjustment he recommends, you can get clipping. So you have to be careful where you're gains are at. At least that's what I ran in to.

chuckebaby now take lanes ? :0 "whistles to himself" I watched a competitor's video regarding Swipe Comping ... I see where they are going with Take Lane's. They were horrible when I first started using them, then they improved a lot when I installed the A patch. IOW ... I'm not afraid of them any more.

I've been using the CE in a weird way for my metal stuff. I toss it on some tracks but not others which isn't what they recommend but it seems to add some sparkle to guitars that I like. Mostly the N-Type. A lot of dudes say they don't hear it... and sometimes I don't either but for sauced up guitar tracks it's definitely noticeable to me. I've used it on some vox too like that Johnny Cash cover I did. I think I used the A-Type for that one though. Cheers, Lynn.

X2a working very well here. I love the improvements in workflow. Auto Track Zoom is excellent (sorry, Beep). The timeline zoom etc. is great. Love the improvements in the PRV. I love Automation Lanes and Take Lanes. I really like the Console Emulation. And Breverb - it's become my "goto" reverb. I've not really used RMix, but can see its usefulness. I wasn't that keen on TH2, but have used it on my latest track a few times and am starting to like it. The audio engine is so much smoother. I fiddle around as the track is playing and there are no glitches. There are loads of other improvements, but these are just off the top of my head. I'll post any more if they occur to me. It took me a wile to get used to X1 (coming from Sonar 6), but by the time X1d came out it was rock solid, and so much of an improvement. X2 was a little crash prone at first, but the quickfix, and especially X2a have made it rock solid again. I love X2. I'm working much faster, and getting much better results. Thanks for starting the thread, Beep.

Thanks for starting the thread, Beep. Yes, sir. I've got some beefs with the program as is but if the way X1 ended up getting sorted out by the time the d patch hit is any indication of things to come... I think we'll have a real winner. It's slick and worth a little patience IMO. The whole concept seems to be far more advanced than X1 and X1 wasn't exactly a dog (just my opinion... no freak outs please). Cheers, all.

I just like it. :) It looks great and with the console emulator, it sounds great. I've looked at some of the others and spent a lot of time on one of them. I still find the most value sound-wise and ease of workflow with sonar. I would like more better stuff like: Organization -Search for tracks -Search in-use effects / list -Another way to change the order of tracks versus just drag and drop (IE: Move to After Track...) -Colored regions -Organize plugs within the browser -FX bin On/Off manager (similar to track manager) -Mixing scenes (to include different buss routing)

Some tips... Icons. When putting an icon on a track, why be limited to pics of what it is supposed to be? Putting a pair of big knockaz on a drum bus may make you more creative and cheer you up a bit. Re naming tracks. Why call the kick track "kick" and piano "piano". Utilise the functionality and name your kick Dave or Paul. The elegant instruments such as strings and cellos could be called Louise or Sandra. Play frogger using prv view. Press play on the transport and open up prv view. Then grab one of the midi notes and try to replace it an octave higher and it becomes a decent emulation of the classic game frogger, with parts just scrolling all over the shop and general confusion. Up the tempo and zoom in for higher difficulty levels. Leave your finger on ctrl whilst composing and arranging for some real randomness. The chances are it will be better than the shaiyte you slave over for hours. Love x2. It is as stable as a horses bedroom.
