PRV is great in Sonar Platinum

Aside from the very small issue I have with the new PRV and selection overall its a great PRV.

First I can now see the darn thing. Before the notes were very small on my display now it has a very useful zoom range.

Then it has made the controller lanes attractive and much better to use.

They brought back the pattern brush.

Its a much nicer place to work.

Well done CW!! Now just fix the selection bug and I will be extremely happy.

But in the Drum Grid Pane the horizontal zoom with mousewheel and cntr/alt keys still does not work. In PRV it works like in the Track View

I have a question.....I have a old project that I did when I was using Home Studio or Music Creator...the PRV still comes up as the old style in the project ( little bars instead of blocks ) my more recent projects come up as they should, is there something in the settings I need to mess with for the older projects?

That sounds odd Keneds. Perhaps if you save to a new folder and then load it that might cure it.

I can't agree, John. Pattern Brush and minor cosmetics aside, I haven't noticed anything new here that I couldn't do in X3, and that includes "enjoying" all the preference recall bugs that have plagued this since the X series began.
Oh, except there are a few more bugs.

Here are a few core editing features that have been introduced in the new version. I find them to be pretty useful:

(please pardon the video quality - very quickly recorded)

Nothing huge. But the PRV is getting some love.

Bill -

I confess I didn't understand the "relative velocity scaling" before I saw this video. I thought we already had this in X3 and I didn't "get" why it was considered new. But I see from the video how the mouse position allows you to scale across the notes from "low vel" to "high vel". I can see how that can be useful.

Also, the "grab and stretch" didn't really excite me either when I saw it in the Overview video, but the tuplet demo actually makes sense.

So I take back what I said: I definitely appreciate the attention the PRV is getting.
To me, this means that NOW is the time for us to reproduce those long-standing PRV display bugs and submit them to the Problem Reporter tool, because there is actually a chance they will be addressed. (not meaning to sound snarky here)

No snark taken. Yes, if you're experiencing issues with the PRV, please do provide us with reproducible steps via the Problem Reporter. Our new model is very much about BUG ERADICATION!!! Thanks.

Those are really nice, incredibly useful features in the video. Would be smart to highlight those on Cake TV, I reckon.

I used the Ctrl-Stretch feature on selected MIDI notes in the PRV in SONAR Platinum today. IT IS REALLY USEFUL.

Also, I agree that for single track MIDI editing, the PRV does seem a lot more solid in Platinum than X3E. I like using it a lot.

Unfortunately, for multi-track drum MIDI editing with Drum Maps, I drop back to Sonar X3 Producer. I find the PRV almost unusable in that scenario.

Interesting. I was editing drums yesterday in Platinum using an old drum map and i didn't notice any changes between Plat & X3e.

Can I ask why you find it unusable?

In the past I had a real problem with the PRV for me because it wouldn't zoom enough for my needs. Plus I like the new control lanes much better. Its like a whole new PRV to me with everything I could want. I do a lot of drum editing with it and in combination with BFD 3 I couldn't be happier. I find even working with no drum map for AD2 drums a breeze.
With the new size and the smart tool it couldn't be easier.

CW had to have looked at it for some time to get it this good. In other words all the negatives that plagued the PRV for years have been dealt with in a very nice way.

I love it!

Bill, I think you should take the time to do a real video, from a new user perspective and take 5 minutes to go over the entire PRV, including the changes... discussing what you are doing and how it all works in detail... This is a new model for Sonar and deserves new and better vids... PRV is soooo important and many will benefit from a fresh look...All the tricks and tweaks...which I haven't mastered and should!!!

Very kind Geoff to go to that trouble for me. Thank you.  I know about it and I have it I just haven't used it yet. My main drums are BFD 3. It provides and automatic drum map. I also use Battery 3. I do like the sound AD 2 has though.

One question,

why is it that the Quantize function is still in a dialogbox??
I´m maybe one of the few people playing in notes and then editing them instead of mouseclicking them in,
so in another daw I use, Quantizingparameters are just there in an inspector, so once I make a change I can always use them by just hitting ´Q´.
I also never understood why there is no proper swing function. Swing in default is set to 50%, which is not logical.
A binary beat is 0% and then you add the swing..

Not beeing rude or anything, just trying to understand why CW doesn´t adress these things..

True, but I don´t want Sonar to quantize my whole piano track, I want to decide myself what to quantize..

When you use the quantize dialog box it retains the last setting you had until you change it, for example if you quantize a note to 1/8th resolution and close the box when you select another note and hit Q it opens the dialog box still set to 1/8th resolution. There is also a timing tool in the tools module you can quantize individual notes with.

BJ, there's a number of posts in the problem report forum about multi-track PRV editing but specifically this one drives me crazy.
