Platinum Lifetime Updates: Just for clarity.

In the Sonar Platinum Lifetime Updates FAQ:
If we change the name of SONAR Platinum, you will get lifetime updates to the newly named version. It's as simple as that.
Does that mean the Lifetime Updates apply to ANY & ALL future updates to Cakewalk's flagship program?!?!?!
This sounds way too good to be true!... and you know the old saying about that...
OR
Do they mean "you will get lifetime updates (up to) the newly named version"

I'm skeptical about ANY company that claims Lifetime Updates due to getting burned on the popular Health Club/Gym Lifetime Memberships the were so popular in the 90's.  Lifetime Updates usually meant the lifetime of that EXACT product name or company name.
Personally, I think Cakewalk easily deserves my $199 for such a great product, but like I said, just for clarity...

This has been discussed ad nauseum.

If you don't believe it, don't buy it. Or, just join the hundreds, if not thousands who have.

It's all a conspiracy, they are waiting for you in particular to purchase lifetime updates and then they will roll out a new flagship version which will be exempt.

Their point is this subject has been beat to death and there are a multitude of similar threads threads. Most (including myself) believe that Cake is on the up and up and the lifetime deal is a no brainer.

Actually, by going to Help>About Sonar I noticed that under Membership it reads Valid Through 12/24/2037 and I'm wondering if they expect me to be dead by Christmas eve of 2037.

My guess is many of you were not even bothered by the Day 10000 problem. It was eclipsed by newer programming opportunities. Still, it was a good revenue generator for those involved.

No... Actually, "this is what you get" when you don't do a google search
seriously though, it has been discussed over and over and over again.
good question, im not knocking your curiosity, im just saying a google search would have saved you the trouble of asking something that has been beaten. There is a 12 page thread about it.

Conspiracy? You think it's a conspiracy? Then the mainstream media has you exactly where they want you.

Apple knows your life will cease to exist on January 1, 2038, at exactly 8 PM GMT - and I can prove it to you.

1. Grab an iPhone.
2. Choose Settings > General > Date and Time.
3. Turn off Set Automatically.
4. Advance the spinner to set the time and date.
5. You cannot set it past January 1, 2038, at 8:00 PM GMT.

I like to think that it is a conspiracy to nullify late adopters and make them all early adopters. Some may need to think about that in order to understand it.

You won't need to but we hope you will want to buy some of the future add ons to SONAR we have planned. The idea is to change the model such that users don't have to pay for improvements and fixes to the app but rather, optionally pay for more radical new add ons. People have complained for years that they were forced to buy a new version just to get bug fixes - we believe that is an outdated model of software development that doesn't favor the customer.

BTW AFIK you WILL need to buy a new version of Windows 10 since the install is locked to your PC. If you buy a new PC I don't think you can transfer that license - at least I haven't heard that.

If they meant "up to" the newly name version, they would have said it that way.

But to make it beyond clear maybe Cakewalk should change the FAQ to read:
".....you will get lifetime updates FOR the newly named version, including any future name changes of Sonar Platinum"

Not that the original FAQ was confusing (to me, at least) in any way, but obviously there are some that can twist the words around unless it's written like an attorney's legal document.  But then the FAQ would be ten times the length.  (this all kind of reminds me of the presidential race, every word gets dissected and twisted around by the opponents)

And Cakewalk's Lifetime offer is not a Health Club membership, there are no catches, no hidden fees, no trick conditions.  It is what it is.  A great deal with no secret catches.

I believe that is a true statement as far as the OEM license goes, as well as the free upgrade from Windows 7/8.1.  But if you have purchased a retail copy of Windows 10 you can move it and activate it on a different PC.

The latest news I just heard is that with the Windows 10 anniversary update, you can tie your Windows 10 activation to your PC with your Microsoft account at the Windows store.  If you do that, they may even let you upgrade your motherboard, if your drives and such remain in place, and reactivate online without issue.

http://www.howtogeek.com/...pc%E2%80%99s-hardware/

Also, as Bob Bone posted recently, Windows 10 can now handle a significant change in motherboard architecture, without requiring a clean install.  Has something to do with changes to the hardware abstraction in Windows 10, I think.

And finally, yes I will probably put the cash saved to good use in acquiring some fancy new softsynths that Cakewalk is sure to develop soon

I had a bad experience upgrading from windows 7 to windows 8.
I bought a laptop that had windows 7 in it... but it came with a $10 upgrade to windows 8.

so I grabbed the $10 update and installed it on the laptop. 2 years later I replaced the laptop with an SSD.
I went to install a clean version of windows 8 and use the Serial I bought from windows and it wouldn't work.
I called windows tech support which was very fast to be honest . (a funny dig yes ).
anyway, they informed me I couldn't use the serial on a clean install, it only worked as an upgrade from windows 7.

so I had to install windows 7, then install windows 8 in the form of an upgrade.
so stupid. I will never use Microsoft again, im switching to..... well I guess I will use Microsoft again .
there's really nothing else...and they know it.
