there are no concrete qualifications I think the website now references a specific level of income from music at which you are deemed to need the commercial licence. I can't remember what it is off hand, but it's not a huge amount. For sure, Madonna can't get away with the fifty dollar licence.

You may use the discounted license if any of the following is true: You are an individual, using REAPER only for personal use. You are an individual or business, using REAPER for commercial use, and the yearly gross revenue does not exceed USD $20,000. You are an educational or non-profit organization. I had to look it up to see if 20 k was daily or weekly or monthly or yearly or across a decade or two or more. Anybody want to hazard a guess on the percentage of commercial vs. discounted licenses they sell? Anybody consider going non-profit or educational to avoid the 20k/year clause? What's the yearly count on conversions of licenses from discounted to commercial as a band gets noticed? under 5?

conversions of licenses from discounted to commercial as a band gets noticed? ... but they no doubt convert to Pro Tools

I think the new distinction of a "discounted" license which allows for commercial use is especially brilliant, personally. Most of us who sell our home recordings aren't making any real money from it, so this allows us to do so with the cheaper license. It's not only a matter of trusting your users, but also understanding the realities of most home recordists IMO. Here's an example: http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=37061

I'm honored that we are still in Justin's avatar pic (although it's the old booth ) I wonder if it will change to the Presonus or Propellerheads booth or something once Winter NAMM rolls around. Will we retain this coveted position? Only time will tell...)

Justin's avatar pic is in every respect (save the Cakewalk backdrop) very scary ... but not so scary as Justin's claimed occupation, which you can see if you click through his avatar. Grim indeed!

I fell in love with reaper, especially the skinability, but was sorely disappointed with it's MIDI set. I was going to work around it, though, until I discovered that it's MIDI internal timing was ATROCIOUS! Play a MIDI with one snare sound playing even eighth notes, and just move your mouse around, or select another Clip (object), or track, or move a knob, and the timing just goes to hell - REALLY BAD! Happened on 4 of my computers (all PC xp sp3) - 3 laptops and my main DAW. It doesn't happen with SONAR or Logic 5.5. Forget about it. It has some beautiful features, but it's TOTALLY unstable with MIDI. A real heartbreaker...........

You replied to a 18+ month old thread to say that? Maybe you should post on the Reaper forum and someone can figure out why you have this timing issue because I haven't heard of anyone else using Reaper having this issue.
