Your website link comes up fine but the explanation link didn't work when I tried it a couple of times. If it's not one thing, it's another, huh?

I fixed the original link. I guess after twenty years of software development experience, you'd think I'd learn to take more regular backups, and unit-test my work. LOL.

    Thanks y'all.

+1 for commiting fraud to get your site back- funny how a system to PREVENT fraudulent activity can actually encourage dishonesty.

Me too! Back when Pete was writing articles on overclocking a Celeron 300 and it was the bomb at the time.

All those guys, Bruce, Pete, Rip, Catana......the original Cakewalk Newsgroup from the mid-late 90's. So much information, I loved hanging out there.

Really nice to see you back online Rip.

I've actually been through a similar experience a few years back. Lost a domain name due to a host service screw up. It was agony. I finally gave up because I just didn't have the time and money to go chasing after the people involved (it was just a hobby site after all - nothing worth killing myself over). This is one aspect of the internet most people don't even know about. The pain and suffering involved in getting a website up and running and keeping it up and running 24/7.

Larry you have no idea. ProRec has been an investment of thousands of hours of blood, sweat, and tears... and to have it all vanish unrecoverably because some b*tch in Newark won't take my phone calls.... the number of times I thought about getting in my car and driving up there....

Of course, with the site down for almost a year, it was a terrible loss of momentum. The rebuilding will probably take another year.

Congrats on the restart of prorec!

Your site was, IMO, the top home recording site back when I started this DAW adventure at the end of the 90s. In addition to yourself, of course, are we going to see new articles from other writers from that era?

Also, is the upcoming point-to-point going to be using Sonar?

Good to see you back up and running again. It was always a vast array of characters over there and the articles and reviews came to be known around the other forums. I'm an IT guy who is always suggesting, no forcing, backups on my clients and it's a shame to see the best laid plans...anyway, sorry for your loss - you guys seem to have been out for quite a while.

Looking forward to some more modern point to points. Things have changed quite a bit in the PC processing world since the last one, eh?

Blades - I'm an IT guy too, and I know better. I guess after eight straight uninterrupted years I got lazy. Plus, life was coming at me from all sides. What I didn't mention in the article (because it's personal) was that, starting a year or so before the site vanished, I went through a divorce, my mother died, my father had to be institutionalized and his caretakers taken to court, I lost a very sweet day job, and other Malaise Generally. So I let my guard down.

I guess I forgot about Murphy. That f*cker. He's always showing up when you least expect him.

My goodness Rip. Guess that explains why it took so long to get back on the horse. I can imagine where you've been this past year... 'cause I've been there.

Let's look at the bright side. How many times have you had to re-type a post, or re-create a document, or even re-enter a program... only to find out that all that experience helped you produce a better final result?

Here's to a great year and a new and improved ProRec!
