Oops, I didn't update the files I thought I had. (Forgot about case-sensitivity on the hosting web site and thought I was updating projectscope.exe by uploading projectScope.exe, when in reality it created a new file. Actually, it's not that I forgot--why should I even have to remember something like that?!?) Anyway, search IS in there now. Also that "out of bounds range" thing is, well, a thing of the past. (See archive.org for details.) Thanks for the heads up on that metronome/grooveplayer issue. I'll make a note to address that somehow. My primary plan is to ignore it, but that will probably be revised. (I should put a smiley here, but which one?) Edit: My apologies for the inconvenience caused in the faulty update. Thanks for your comments!

Well is the metronome effectively a hard coded plugin? Once you know what it's not much of an issue anyway. Maybe it should be better identified but it's no biggy. Thanks.

No worries on the mis-upload. We're just grateful you've provided this to the community.
On the file name thing, Linux file names ate case sensitive, windows by default are not. It often causes confusion when transferring files between systems.

Great app, Mark. Thanks for sharing! Rainy-day feature suggestion: drill-down details for audio files and plugins. Examples... - copy-pastable full pathnames to audio files - context menu option to open folders for audio files and plugins - sizes and datestamps of audio files - sample rates and wordlengths for audio files - version numbers and full pathnames for plugins - instance count for plugins, e.g. "Channel Tools (3)" - interleave (mono/stereo) for tracks, assuming that information is easily accessible - frozen status for tracks, assuming that information is easily accessible - option to open a project - total project size - last-modified date/time (projects, audio and plugins) - project sample rate I know, a project like this can become never-ending and you have to draw the line somewhere. These are just suggestions if you want to keep expanding on the idea.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

Nice looking tool czyky! I have been thinking of writing a tool that would peak in the CWP file too, but for a slightly different purpose. Perhaps this could become a feature request in yours instead: I'd like a list of audio WAV files in the project's audio folder that are NOT referenced within that CWP. Basically this feature would form the beginnings of audio file management and deletion (the elusive sophistication many have wanted for a while that is lacking in present tools?). It would be great to be able to click a button to say "move all unused audio WAV files to an archive folder". That way the tool doesn't delete anything but the user can take responsibility for handling that.

One more update, fixing a few things, adding a few minor features. (Improvements? You decide!) Thanks again for all your comments and suggestions. If you've made none, but downloaded ProjectScope anyway, thanks for that too! Apps are made to be applied, I always say (starting about 10 seconds ago). The latest incantation of ProjectScope allows you to copy a list of items to the clipboard (right-click), from whence you can paste into whatever. The items are tab-delimited (the lists, not the user info), so they should flow into, say, a spreadsheet. KPerry, will that work for you? There's an option to fill in audio file file information (in addition to just the file names). (More information in the future, I suppose.) Bitflipper, with that shopping list (all good), I'm tempted to promote you to head of R&D. Or maybe marketing. VariousArtist, your idea is good direction, too, I think. I do that procedure all the time (as I'm sure a lot of us do), but it's half by hand. (Example: "ProjectScope show eight audio files belonging to this project, but file explorer shows ten wav files total in the directory. Which are the two unused files?") Having the whole procedure of moving off the superfluous file with a click would be sweet indeed. I think a full report print feature would be cool. Why? Actually I don't see a utilitarian need for it, but other DAWs don't have it, so we should! Wait a sec---did I say "incantation"? I meant "incarnation". You knew that, right?

You rock!! As was stated before, the paths of missing/used media would be a great feature for my vote too. Back in the boot CD age, there was small media players we could add to play from the program UI, but of course they weren't compiled in. lol To be able to audition the wavs I haven't properly named, or the projects I name with the date because I'm just jamming.... that would tickle my squirrel. lol Just having a starting point for missing file paths is great ... I'm always adding drives, reinstalling the os, or something, and I have tons of junk. lol Much gratitude for your time and energy on this project for us crazy Sonarians.

TSV is good! In the spirit of sharing, I'll soon have my little VST name manager available - remember how annoying it is when you've renamed plugins, you re-run a full scan and all the names get zapped? This saves names (and other setting you might want to recall) to an XML file for all VST plug-ins, then reloads them after you've scanned. Somewhere, I've got some notes about how to trigger the scan programmatically, so if I can do that, it'll have a single button that backs up settings, fires off the scan, then re-imports settings (for 32 and 64 bit installs).

We used to have a 3rd party app called SonarUtils. Unfortunately the gent who wrote the program didn't update it for x64 compatability and left off using Sonar so it never got updated.
One of its features was to add editor to the Utilities menu for the tool copy function whereby you can select an audio file/s or selection thereof, within Sonar, select the appropriate program shown in the tUtility menu and the selected audio is passed to the external program for editing and return to Sonar.
It requires a registry entry but many people find it difficult to implement but of course would love the function it provides
Any takers to reverse engineer SonarUtils and release for x64 or just create a tool that can create a registry entry by taking some simple inputs from a user.

I've updated ProjectScope one more time this week. I like the audio file preview feature so much, I'm calling it "Project Scope Producer Edition." Pretty snappy, no? Update notes are in the OP. Thank you everyone for your comments and suggestions. If any more features get added, I'm afraid it might require some....no, I can't say it....okay, I will say it...documentation (there, I said it). Note on the file scanning. It supports the "standard" filename wildcards, so if you want all the Sonar files that begin with, say, Album 1, then use Album 1*. If you want all the project files that have Album 1 somewhere in the file name, then use *Album 1*

I have to say, ProjectScope is really a helpful program, thank you highly for giving it the time and work for us! I have years of project files that when created and named I had no idea what I was going to do, or who might wind up playing on it with me, or start and stops that may or may not have any data in the tracks.... or even no tracks at all. I've spent the last couple of days cruising old archives and it saves tons of time. You can click through from there without having the load time in Sonar, or the drag of windows explorer load-time, and open the chosen project directly from ProjectScope. Fast! Now I get to go play with the updated version. Love It! Thank you!

czyky Note on the file scanning. It supports the "standard" filename wildcards, so if you want all the Sonar files that begin with, say, [style="line-height: 1.8;"]Album 1, then use [style="line-height: 1.8;"]Album 1*. If you want all the project files that have [style="line-height: 1.8;"]Album 1 somewhere in the file name, then use [style="line-height: 1.8;"]*Album 1*
Interesting, I tried exactly that and could not get it to work. Will it work for * ? (everything, the question mark is a question mark and not a wildcard ). I was also trying to find a way to list all projects. I'll try the latest and greatest version later. Thanks!

Sylent, I appoint you head of trade show demos! Yes, That's what ProjectScope is for! (Among other uses.) I was realizing over the last few weeks that, hey, I've got more than ten years worth of projects, and sometimes locating one of the oldies (to steal from myself or to remix for client for a fee, heehee) took a lot of time and a lot of misses. When I started counting the number of projects I have amassed, well, like you (many of you) I said to myself, there has to be a better way to track down an old Sonar project. ProjectScope is my take on that better way. Now that I (and you all) have a tool to scan CWP files, in hindsight I wish I had been better about leaving notes inside my projects, but you can bet I do leave notes in them now. Using KEYWORDS actually makes tonnes of sense now. I can put a few keywords in each project and then search on them whenever the need arises. Just as I typed this, I realized a good enhancement will be to have a option for ProjectScope to run through all the Sonar projects and compile a list of all available keywords that I can then print or paste to a spreadsheet or whatever for future reference! Stay tuned. Since ProjectScope now has AAFF (audition audio file feature--don't forget that acronym in your dog and pony speeches at the trade shows, Sylent!), I have started another standard procedure on each of my projects: - bounce a minute or so of the project to a new track,
- name the track "preview" (this causes the audio clip to get a "preview" name as well)
- then archive and hide the track. (I don't need to see the track generally, I only want it to generate a preview audio file.)
The bounced track's corresponding audio file shows up in the ProjectScope display when I peek at that project and I can audition what is in the project post haste (that's French for toot suite). On older projects, without the preview audio, I can make use of all those archived/frozen soft-synth tracks and audition those wav files to get an idea of the project anyway. Auditioning a few seconds of the audio files is way faster than loading a project completely to hear what is in it, only to find it's not the droid, er, project that I was looking for.

Ha Ha... you got it! lol And I agree, it's well worth taking a minute for notes and even a short preview when I start so many "header" projects hoping to get back to them one day "soon". And ....., to query a directory of projects and get a dynamic list of all the tracks that "Jerome" played bass on!! Jerome may not care.... but it sure can make my life less cloudy. lol Thank you!

You get Jerome to play bass on your tracks? Now, I'm jealous.
