Question for gardeners
What is this? I pretty sure I planted it, but I've never seen it before, can't find the packet and don't have any idea what it is.

I'm sure the DEA would be interested to know the location of that "garden"! IDK..... The stuff I grow is easy to identify AND I remember what I planted. planting only squash, cukes and tomatoes makes it easy to remember what the stuff is when it comes up. So if no one else can positively ID it.... just wait a few weeks and see what it does. I was thinking it looked like a sweet potato vine with the shape and color of the leaves, and what looks like a vine/runner coming from the plant. We often plant them as vines, or more likely when they sprout from letting them lay around too long. Do you remember planting sweet potatoes?

I planted about 20 different types of things (not all things are doing well, unfortunately). :( This was planted later, after the spinach was about done. I don't think I planted sweet potatoes though. Well, I can just wait and see, like you said. Just not sure whether to pick it or dig it. lol (the things doing best are pumpkins, potatoes and cucumbers that came up where I buried the compost.)

Sorry, I don't know what that is. I planted a bunch of stuff from seeds this year, and I studiously made labels for each thing. Who knew that red sharpie would wash off in a day's worth of rain? So I don't know what all it is. It'll be a nice surprise. I also tried planting corn for the first time this year. It's coming up nicely but we just had a big windstorm and a bunch of the stalks blew over. I thought corn was sturdier than that.

You guys are just all so helpful. That's why I always come here first! :) James, yeah, I knew you were serious, but I hadn't tried that yet. I'm pretty sure it's not Japanese Knotweed, though, cause I've never heard of that. Steve...I know I should be more organized. It does increase the suspense, though. :( Anyway, it sounds like you tried and it didn't work for you. :) Someone told me to cut up mini-blinds and use them for 'stakes.' Write on them with a pencil, cause it stays longer than ink. I just dug up the first 'hill' of potatoes yesterday and was nicely surprised. Especially since I didn't even plant them. Not this year anyway. I think I'll have Tyler help me with the rest. He might have some interesting things to say about getting potatoes out of the ground. :)

Janet, as I highly trained biologist (who knows nothing about plants *) I should have pointed out that "giving the leaves a darned good sniff" was probably the safer option. * Except roast potatoes

Is that an ELECTRIC guitar you're holding Steve? It has bare metal strings? Where are your safety gloves??

No need to worry - I'm wearing a high-vis jacket and goggles, I have a safety net, and I've coned off the surrounding 43 square miles. I also undertook a complete risk assessment survey which I've filed, in triplicate, at the local Environmental Health department. Oh bugger, I just dropped me fire extinguisher on me foot.

Janet, I know next to nothing about garden plants, but that looks an awful lot like what I had a bunch of at my previous house. If it is the same, it's a ground cover called 'vinca minor,' and it will have some nice little flowers on it at some point.
