Question for my ol pal, Brandon....re colors
First, thanks for seeming to always be fairly available and ready to answer questions and put out the dust bunnys catchin on fire here at our interestin ol forum. I, for one, honestly appreciate your tone and tenor and you seem to use actual reasoning in coming up with your posts and suggestions. Imagine that? I've now seen (in my frantic, fetid memory at least) several posts from distraught users begging for complete color customization (or what passes for it) to be brought back to Sonar. And, if I recall your general responces correctly, your answer is something like "well, maybe some...but certainly not all...color customization might be brought back in the future. Am I "generically" right about that? If so, then my question to you is WHY NOT total (or what is tantamount to it) color customization?? What could possibly be threatening to Sonar to allow the user the level of customization he or she used to have? What would it matter if the whole thing was Chartruese and Purple?? What possible difference could it make to Cakewalk what colors a user picked for anything in the program? I'm sure it's some dimwitted thing I'm not considering but please elucidate me...hip me...shoot me the facts, Jack...er...Brandon. Why, in the final analysis, can't (or couldn't) we have total color customization?? As usual, I'll take my answer off the air.

I agree, the colors should be brought back. The new interface is way too sterile and uninteresting. Its hard to differentiate between takes and my older eyesight isnt that good. Color is the main reason I'm staying with Producer 8.5.

Well now, being as my moniker is Doghouse Riley, my "freak flag" is a simple field of green and an aggregation of 5 golden orbs in the upper left hand corner. I got the idea from my boy, Buster.

You would think this is simple, since custom skins are being made by forum members, but who knows. All these 1's and 0's are a bit of a black art. Yea, Gordon's is our "house" gin. But a few others you might try if you can find them are: Brokers Hayman's Old Tom Ivana**** (no foolin) Hammersmith I love Bombay (regular) and Plymouth (when I can afford it) too! We simply make Winston's Churchill's "V" sign to the glass before drinking. That's close enough.

I personally think it was a conscious decision by Cakewalk to make it bland so it would be seen as consistent from pro studio to pro studio. But I think that's the wrong way to look at it as I think Pro Tools and others all should have a great level of color customization. It just makes sense to me.

You mean you surmise that they took away a ton of our color cusomization...for aftermarket branding???? Why didn't they just put a 22pt. screaming yellow logo that blinked on and off in the upper right hand corner that said simply X1?? Tell me that's not it Brandon, ol pal. Bring back the color! I was using X1 less because the "new color scheme" they gestapoed on us was hurting my eyes. After ten minutes, I had a headache. It wasn't until Panup started his mods that I use X1 all the time again. Another shout out to Panup for his great mods!

I'm curious guys..What do you need to change color that can't? I'm using a Sonar Mod and have changed all the track colors and i love the way SONAR looks for me now. Panup created a mod that makes things look like you are looking at old time yellowed glass, like a machine form the 1940's....it is too cool! I got around the "Non-Indented" folders look by changing colors of the track folders. All my tracks have brightened color. What else do you need to change? I feel i'm missing something.

The folder member dashed line color can be changed, which helps a little to make up for the loss of indentation.

Yup you got what I've said in the past correct. It's certianly true that some color customizations create more difficulties than others depending on if the item is custom, how that item is rendered and what dependencies it has. So it's not a matter of just turning them on or off, but I suspect of rebuilding the customization to at least some degree. So there is a matter of prioritization to this process and that's why it's important to know which customizations are important to the largest number of customers. I think it's been pointed out by enough customers that there is s strong case for returning these customizations over time. In what quantity and at what time I wish I could provide more information, but I'll need to investigate further. I realize this is an important factor to a sizable faction of the user base. But as I said, short of just turning them all on at once (doubtfully possible), it's important for us to know which unimplemented color customizations are posing the most problems for users. Then we can start there. And I'll have an Old Fashioned with Booker's bourbon please...

X1 seems to be an attempt to simplify the look/ergonomics, which was different than the cutomizing built into SONAR. When I started using SONAR (about V5) there was already a bunch of customizable stuff built in, tho more was added. I imagine that is something the bakers are working on such and will it be prioritized since many of the early glitches have been worked out. A lot of people seem to want it and color does have good uses. At some point I would expect a build to put a lot of customizing back in as a selling point. "Look, SONAR is simple - but you can make it as complex as you want!" style release. So yes, Brandon, ask the Bakers pretty please w/ multiple color customization on top. But keep the implementation simple and an option. @

it's important for us to know which unimplemented color customizations are posing the most problems for users I think a lot of people would agree that it's important to be able to distinguish the different types of tracks audio/midi/instruments and folders. We can change the text colour at the moment - but the background colour would be nice to. That would really make the different types stand out.

Well, there IS a skin editor now.... Sure, it's 3rd party, but it's there. Which can both comfort customization nerdz for now as well as exist as a proof-of-concept about the fact that X1 can be brought to a customizable state. I'm "meh" about it. I never tweaked much when the options existed, and having a fairly static color scheme doesn't really bother me (there are other DAWs out there that aren't that tweakable color-wise after all).

Agreed, but I think for many folk (me included), ten hours a day staring a grey screen can be very depressing. It's also not that great for clients who are looking from a distance. Track folders are a real issue. I'd be happy to simply get rid of the grey.
