Hey Guys,
I am another user who is running the FF800 at 1ms latency with WDM drivers. I have not had great luck with the ASIO drivers and my system has been running smooth since I decided to stay put with WDM. I run sessions every Sunday where there are 20 tracks being recorded at the same time for well over a half an hour straight. I also have two UAD-1 cards and have had no problems running complex mixes with no need to up my latency slider so it is possible. Don't give up on the FF800 as I believe it's the best card on the market. Good Luck.

Glad to hear someone's having good luck. However, it would help me out a ton if you could please spec out your system here, including computer hardware & software used. Thanks!

Hey guys, I really hope all your problems get resolved one way or another! I am in the process of upgrading to the FF800 (almost got enough $) so I will be watching this post closely. I am bummed out enough that I have to have multiprocessor turned off in Sonar and HT off in BIOS with my current Aardvark set up, even more bummed to hear you guys are having probs with the FF and multiprocessors.

I have to agree with mr. moon - this issue does not seem to be widespread enough to discourage you from the FireFace, which is one of the best offerings available. I really hope we can get this resolved, because I'd like to be able to use this interface effectively. I've always been impressed with RME in the past, and I hope this experience won't end in a way that discourages me from that view.

I wouldn't say that I am discouraged about your probs, just takin note. If you saw how many times these stupid Aardvarks locked up my system in an average recording session, you would have to agree with me that the FF800 would be a godsend!! I am pretty set on gettin the FF, like you stated, its not widespread enough to get discouraged, plus, everything you read about these interfaces are nothing but good reviews. 5.02 is just around the corner, so ya never know, maybe its the magic fix!

Okay, here's the update: I found a way to resolve the issue. I've pasted my post from the RME newsgroup below.

Alright - here's what I found:

If I start SONAR 5, and multiprocessor support is enabled, I get crackling in the FireFace, and the CPU meter doesn't actually reflect multiprocessing. If I disable multiprocessor support, the crackling goes away, and the CPU meter stays where it was. If I re-enable multiprocessor support, now the CPU usage drops to half of what it was, and the audio stays clean.

Most ofthe time the audio will then stay clean until reboot even if I close and re-launch SONAR; but there are a couple of things I can do in Windows that will re-trigger the problem before a reboot. It seems like it might be a Windows issue, but I haven't totally pinned it down yet. In any event, at least I know how to stop the crackling when it occurs, and I can get the FireFace down to 128-sample ASIO buffers with a high track playback count and 16 tracks recording with input monitoring.

Mr. moon - have you tried re-enabling multiprocessor support in SONAR after disabling it? I wonder if there's anything similar about our systems that are causing Windows or other applications to somehow mis-handle multiprocessing under certain circumstances.

I don't know if this is specifically a SONAR problem. I'm only really seeing the issue in SONAR, but it seems like it might actually be Windows triggering it. I'm going to email Ron Kuper about it in case there's anything Cakewalk can do about it.
