Very nice - good playing from all involved, and a clean, well defined and separated mix.

Very nice Randy. This is like the 100th version of this song I have downloaded! Everything sounded great but are you sure you don't want to use the porno wha guitar I recorded for you last year on that? Just kidding

Light and airy, well titled, well played and mixed. You are all to be commended for pulling this together. A decade ago this would not have been possible.

    Hi Randy:

Sounds good! Thanks for including me. A lot of improvements on this version. Steve and Ed sound great, as always, and I really like the piano on this.

BTW, I got your email last night, but I was wanting to get in some family time because I've been gone for a few days. Anyway, just wanted to let you know I wasn't ignoring you.

    Randy,

This sounds very nice and I like this version better than the previous one I heard, especially mixwise. I don't *get* the intro piano riff, however - it seems quite out of context with the rest of the song. Also, it seems to take a couple of beats after the intro riff when the other instruments come in for the rhythm to stabilize.

Other than that, good playing - a very nice collaborative work. Congratulations!

Nice, Randy! Nice work, everyone. (I take it Chaz mixed?) Wasn't this slower, originally? (I know it was posted previously. . . )

My only complaint? You didn't need a guitarist! Waah!

Nice radio-ready sax, Charley! I know you're going to bum out, but your entrance on this reminds me of Kenny G! (There, I said it!) No offense, I'm just saying it's right there in the "smooth jazz" thang.

Hey Charley! You did a great job on this one man! It took awhile to get all the pieces together, but was definitely worth the wait!

Hello Gary, That piano intro riff is one measure consisting of 18 notes that took me 6 weeks to get right! I refuse to change it! Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment!

Hey Ed! Your bass brought the bottom end together on this, and wouldn't be near as good without you. I thank you again for your excellent playing and as always, its great !

Hello M.. I forgot to give Steve appropriate credit for mixing and mastering. I think he did a terrific job on this one! As far as the BPM, it has been the same since version 1.

    Randy,

very nice tune. Excellent musicianship of all of you guys. (Reading the credits I have expected that )

Is this really mastered? The analyzer shows much energy at 30Hz. I don't hear that with my speakers, but with bigger speakers or with a subwoofer this could be a problem. Maybe you want to cut that out. I also would like to hear a bit hi freq. boost and a little cut at 1.5kHz.

I loved the part where the Sax just took off and left everything hanging to be brought back down by the drums, real quick. Who's idea was that? Lovely!

Steve, I like how you moved the piano over to the right in the mix without losing too much of the body, how far over did you go, it sounds far, 70%? I tried that with some samples and it lost it's body, had to bring it back more to the center, wondering if you are applying some effect to give it that fullness I lost? Sounds like some reverb, if so, what setting?

    Cheers, thx, great work.

The piano is a mix of a Sonic Reality Blues Daddy Grand through SampleTank2 and the direct out of a Kurzweil SP88X digital piano. Not totally in love with either one by itself... but the mix of the two is quite nice. The Blues Daddy Grand has wonderful stereo separation. Body of the instrument sits nicely in the middle with the high register moving toward the right. There is just a touch of UAD-1 Plate 140 reverb on the piano.

I started with a Smokey Alto preset on the UAD-1 Plate 140 reverb on Charley's sax and then modified almost everything to taste. There is also a Waves super tap delay in there with a setting to make the delay on the right slightly stronger and "closer". Both the verb and delay are applied through aux sends on the bus for the sax.

A real pleasure (and some pressure) mixing and mastering a project with so much talent.

Randy, Charley, Ed, and Glenn... gorgeous stuff... really.

Absolutely outstanding. So easy to listen to.
    Guitar tone is beautiful.
Sax is a bit airy. Sounds nice though.
Love the piano. Sounds very real.

The only thing is that I'd have liked to see a climax at the end instead of a fade.

    Beautiful Job.

Thanks for sharing Steve, now i'm gonna feel bad about my tiny piano pieces for the rest of my life . Seriously thanks for the double layering tip there I'll try it out. I noticed when panning Piano that sometimes I am left with more highs than lows.

Absolutely beatiful song well done can we have some more please.

Charley you are an amazing Sax Player, the moment the Sax came in it reminded me
so much about Dave Koz, that I put one of he's CD's on.

Thank you for the listen guys

    Kiwi,
Another trick for dealing with wide stereo sources is the tool from GSonic. They used to have a free version GPan, which is a simple version of the Enhancer. Essentially what this allows for is a mixing a variable amount of the left and right to narrow and the pan the result. This avoids losing the information either channel while still narrowing the image and then placing in the horizon.

    Hi Randy,
Just hanging out in your thread.

Mark: No, I'm not too bummed out about the comparison to Kenny G. I actually liked his early stuff (when he was with Lorber and his first couple solo albums). It's true he is not an amazing sax player, but he made it listenable to the common person. Unfortunately, I can't stand the stuff he's doing now.

Peter: Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the sax.

Kiwis: If it was a good idea, it was probably mine. Just kidding. Steve's a great player who knows where to take things.

    mwalter: Thanks for listening.

Shaun: Glad you liked it. Always wanted to play sax, eh? Well, it's probably one of the easier wind instruments to learn (and possibly one of the harder ones to make sound good!). Funny though - I always wanted to play guitar and sing.

Mike: I think Dave is one of the better "smooth jazz" guys out there. So, thanks for the compliment.
