Can anyone confirm the presence of this bug in 8.3?

How about 8.3.1? I didn't see anything specific in the resolved issues list. Can anyone confirm/deny?

This has not been fixed. I just edited the original title to reflect that.

This was driving me crazy. I thought it was me. Project sounded fine as MIDI but horrible when bounced. Crackles if fast-bounced, horribly balanced because of ignored CC11 envelope if bounced real-time. I am glad to have found this thread and see that it's a SONAR problem. Totally surprised that it hasn't been addressed yet, having gone through the thread and noting the dates reported. Cakewalk: Is there a simple workaround for this? Does Cakewalk not believe it to be a bug? What's up? I've got a lot invested with this (phenomenal) package. Looking at my "password file" to get my serial number from SONAR 8 so I could submit the ticket, I noticed all my previous serial numbers---beginning with HomeStudio 2000 and then there was this registration for a thing called SONAR X1 1.3.1. Wow. I feel so old. So really, I'm committed to SONAR. We've come a long way...What's up with this bug? Thanks. Don SONAR 8.3.1.372, Edirol FA-66 (ASIO). (Max buffers didn't help). 7200 RPM 320G internal for XP32, applications. 7200 RPM USB 2 connected Iomega HD for samples. Dell Latitude D630 w/Intel Core Duo 2.6GHz, 4GB.

This afternoon here's what I found. Single note, the G above middle C, for 5 seconds or so. 100 velocity. Track 1. Output to Soft Synth (see below) Channel 1. Added a CC11 envelope. Three tests, one with the CC11 starting at 0 and moving up and down through to the end. One with CC11 starting at 70 and moving up and down through to the end. And one with CC11 starting at 127 and moving up and down through to the end. Soft Synth: One instrument - Two Trumpets Sustained - loaded from EWQLSO Gold to channel 1 in Play sampler. Then I tried several Fast Bounces and Real Time bounces. CC11 envelope starting at 0 RT bounce ignored the envelope. Fast bounce ignored the envelope. CC11 envelope starting at 70 RT bounce ignored the envelope. Fast bounce rendered properly. CC11 envelope starting at 127 RT bounce ignored the envelope. Fast bounce rendered properly. Summary: RT bounces all ignored the envelope. Fast bounces properly rendered the envelope, except in the case where CC11 began at 0. In that case, the Fast bounce also ignored the envelope. -------------------- RT bounce ignored envelope in all cases whether or not audio was played back at the time. I tried disabling the Track envelope option during the bounce. It properly stopped the Fast Bounce from playing the envelope when the option was unchecked. (But disabling it and re-enabling it didn't force the Real Time bounce to play the envelope.) Export to a wave file behaved the same as bouncing. (Ignored the envelope.) SONAR PE 8.3.1.372, Edirol FA-66 (ASIO), 7200 RPM internal for XP Pro (32) and applications. 7200 RPM USB2 connected HD for samples. Dell Latitude D630 w/ Intel Core Duo 2.6 GHz, 4GB. ASIO buffers set to max, min, normal---no effect. Playback buffer changed from 128 to 1028---no effect. Open to any suggestions.

Paul: Options-Global-MIDI-Playback: Prepare using 500 Millisecond Buffers. Options-Audio-Advanced-File System Playback I/O buffer size (KB)= 128. I changed to 1028 with no effect. Options-Audio-General-ASIO Panel... Buffer size set to NORMAL. I changed to both MAX and MIN with no effect. If there are other buffers somewhere to increase, please let me know. Thanks

You could try raising your midi buffers to something like 2000 milliseconds. That's always worked for me with truncated notes ever since Sonar 1

Paul Didn't help. So do envelopes work with your real-time bounces? I'm just curious if this is a configuration issue or just a bug that affects everyone.

Most envelopes work with my bounces whether fast or real time, even on Play x64. Having said that, I don't use CC1 or CC11 very much, and I have had a few glitches where the soft pedal or sustain pedal on EWQL pianos hasn't 'taken'. I've very occasionally resorted to bouncing in sections to get over this. Often envelope problems can be caused by rogue plugins. I remember round about the time of Sonar 3 that PSPVW used to cause all sorts of envelope related bounce issues even if it was just placed somewhere on a buss. It was something to do with the Plugin Delay Compensation (PDC). Generally these days I'm so used to these little glitches that I work around them quick enough rather than waste time worrying about them. In some Play cases I've simply substituted Ivory, which generally works flawlessly.

OK Cakewalk...are you there? This is clearly an envelope bug. The Real Time bounce works fine when the CC11 expression is drawn in in the Piano Roll View. However, if those CC's are converted into an envelope, the Real Time Bounce ignores them. Fast Bounce gets them, but Real Time bounce does not. Can this be fixed?

Here are some additional tests which I believe reveal the actual problem (which djones is referring to): http://www.soundsonline-forums.com/showthread.php?t=21010 After discussing the issue with other Sonar users, the problem is specific to envelopes. For example, if you draw CC1 and CC11 information in the PRV view, Sonar will process this perfectly during a real time bounce. But, if you draw envelopes for CC1 and/or CC11, Sonar will ignore them during a realtime bounce. You will have lots of really happy people if this gets fixed.

OK, just for the record, it's 7 Months later, and Sonar LE 8.5.1 STILL HAS THIS PROBLEM!! Glad I found this thread, though, as I was pulling my hair out (I'm still somewhat new to DAW mixing signal paths, so I assumed it was me). This is unbelievable.... many midi courses out there (including the one I took at Berklee Music College) suggest using Volume (CC7) set once on the track, but to use CC11 for swells and general expression within the track. One more voice for, "Aw, Come ON CAKEWALK!" This should be a cakewalk for you's guys. JMW Massachusetts

I've heard that automation has had quite a bit of a major rewrite for X1, so fingers crossed.

Nice and sad to find this thread. Nice because others discussing the same issue that I have. Sad, because I have updated to X1, and the problem seem to still be around. Perhaps we should send an e-mail to their customer and technical support. Amazed and extremely annoying that this hasn't been addressed yet by Cakewald. Do the even read their own forums... (I know they do)....
