This Reaper release sounds pretty interesting .
I'm interested in the Rewire w SONAR functionality ….also has anybody here Rewired Reaper with Abelton Live 9 ?
I may have to try the demo real soon when my plated clears a little .
hhhmmm I just noticed that there is something a little fishy about that Keyser Soze! mug shot , it looks like they had to get Kevin Spacey to sub as Keyser Soze! because the real Keyser Soze! was busy posting all the deals on the deals and software forums …

The internet is nothing more than a glorified real time cartoon we all star in.
I play a "Gibson " R 8 Les Paul Cherry Sunburst .
The Love of my Life is an American Bulldog Named Duke . I'm currently running Cakewalk By BandLab as my DAW .

Friends,

Not trying to sell Reaper nor divert attention away from Sonar, but used Reaper for about 10 years and maybe in a place to offer opinions, if from the dark side and underground. Had claimed from my microcosm that there is no DAW that does everything, unless a single DAW does everything for your purpose. All user requirements, and totally subjective.

May as well cut one digital artery if I uninstalled Sonar. Cut the other artery if I dump Reaper. Cyber death either way.

Just a perspective...

One of the highest strengths of Reaper is the unisex approach to what a track is. This is blasphemy to the majority of us that have imprinted into the genesis of recorders where audio and midi tracks are discreet, and across a gulf that cannot be bridged. One of the major head scratching complaints against Reaper is a knee jerk rejection against an alien, unfamiliar track model, instead of opening the learning curve to understand a radical design. Not "normal" in polite society, but a superior approach that broke an ancient mold for the better in so many ways.

Can elaborate if anyone wants specifics as to where an androgynous track is what we should have done from the start.

Best to all of you,

John

If the elaboration includes David Bowie, I'm all ears!

I have to admit to finding the SONAR track model a bit intimidating to begin with. Still do. Too many choices to make when I'm instantiating a track. Tick the wrong option? Spend MUCH time tracking down that rookie mistake.

Crap,

Looking at my last post under the influence of several beers. Sorry to all having read thru this on the way to the bottom of the bird cage.

If I can sober up enough to get some hardcore clinical data, want to compare or hilite the androgenous track format in Reaper for information only, and how it will enhance and compliment the Sonar experience via Rewire or midi clock.

In the balance, there are functions in each program that cannot be done in either one (at least without way burdensome effort). Reaper strengths go in the direction of keyboard players. Audio input, mic or DI guitar players, it is a wash with no advantage in either program.

Will get some more concrete specifics when they let me off the killing floor.

John

I have recently tried to write simple MIDI processing VST for Sonar. I write here because the following can affect all such VST, also ReaControlMIDI, when used with SONAR:
1) at least X2 continuously forget MIDI routing, especially when recording MIDI tracks with MIDI VST output as the source
2) there is an additional audio buffer sized delay per MIDI VST in the chain in delivery MIDI to the final synth. So, if you had total latency ~10ms you get something like ~15ms. When working on the system limits but still with hi buffer size (due to sound card and computer), this additional delay was the killed for my original idea and I have stopped future development.
3) recording "real time" does not apply a compensation for (2), while "recording" from existing material (from MIDI VST source MIDI track) does

It can be that I have overseen something, used something incorrectly, etc. But if you are planning to use MIDI VST in your workflow, please check that you either do not have that "side effects" or they are not important for you.
