I guess I'm a little bit unorthodox in how I approach my mixes sometimes. I tend to try some fluff early on just to get various ideas in how a mix
might eventually sound. Just a few more clicks and I'm back to the naked mix. No harm done IMO. It's just too easy to throw a delay into a snare or pump up a weak track with a little compression. A lot of my mixes are pure experimentation. I might even throw a mastering plug in to see what the whole thing sounds like. From all of that I have learned that less is usually more but not always. I don't generally play like that unless I have my basic tracks recorded.
