yes yoropal has the answer

it was not obvious  - -just make a midi clip and drap the loop to the end of the song -quantize it hard -
if a synth being on is a bother - bounce it to a wav and kill the synth

the answer is not the metronome itself

New discovery re my method:

I created my template as described above using the Ping Hi and Ping Lo samples and at 100 BPM.  Today I started a project at 75 BPM and I noticed that on the Ping Lo beats I was getting a slight slap back.  I redid my template being careful to make sure I wasn't doubling anything or that any discarded audio was playing.  Same thing.  At anything below 85 or so BPM I get a slap back on the Ping Lo samples.  Also, anything above 100 BPM works fine too.  Haven't a clue why.  The Ping Hi is fine so I suppose it's in the Ping Lo sample itself.  I'll try two other samples and report back.

I tried your method to create a groove clip from the Ping Hi and Ping Lo samples, although I did it at 120 BPM to start with. Then when I slowed it down to 75 BPM I heard the slap back on both the Hi & Lo samples, although it was more noticeable on the Lo sample. Then I did an experiment to redo the whole process, but with an initial project tempo of 75 BPM. I could then slow the project down to the lowest possible speed (seemed to be 8 BPM) and no artifacts at all. It worked fine for anything at all ..from 8 BPM to 300 plus BPM.   I have no idea why this was any different to constructing the loop at 120 BPM, but this seemed to work perfectly. Maybe give this a try and see if it works for you.

Well when I tried to do it at 75 BPM something very odd happened.  Everytime I would try to either Ctrl-L or Enable Groove Clip on my one bar clip it would turn it into a two bar clip with clicks on every half note...in other words it doubled it's length.  I tried several times in several different ways but no love.  I had no trouble whatsoever doing this at 100 BPM.  Any clues??

I track using an Alesis HD24 and then import the tracks for mixing. I record the click track to the HD24 and then import it back when I import the other tracks. This has probably been mentioned but you could do a similar thing. Play the click  track and route the main outs to a track and record that.

Solved it by going into the groove clip inspector and forcing it to have 4 beats per measure.  Should've worked as before tho.  Puzzling.

Yes I also had to force the loop to have 4 beats per measure. I did that in the Loop Construction View (which is really just editing the same thing via a different place).

OK, this works (and it assumes you have some basic Cake knowlege):

Go here and download Voxengo Recorder
http://www.voxengo.com/product/recorder/

Install the Recorder by simply copying the DLL to your vst plugins folder

Rescan for the plugin

Make sure that the metrodome is routed to its own bus

Insert the Recorder in the effects bin of the metrodome (metronome - just kidding) bus

Set the option to play the metronome on playback

On the Recorder UI, select a file location, name, bit depth, etc and click start.  The recorder is now recording everything that is coming through the metronome bus, which at this point is nothing.

Put the SONAR transport in motion.  The Recorder is now recording the metronome to the .wav file you entered in the Recorder UI.

Record the metronome.  Stop the transport

Add an audio track to your project.

Import the newly created .wav file recording of the metronome into this track.

Put the transport into motion again (without putting the Recorder into record) and nudge the imported recording so that it lines up with the metronome.

When you export your project be sure to include the metronome track.  You can pan it hard left or right so that if you are using this for a sync track, the metronome channel can be routed to the band, and the audio sweetening can be routed to the house.

I do a lot of click tracks, as our church uses video that the band syncs with, and for our larger productions, I add missing instruments to the orchestra, and the director plus the rhythm section gets the clicks.  This issue has always been a major pain in the neck, because the RME 9652 card is the only Hammerfall card without a loopback, and I would have to take monitor outs from my program board, send them through the inputs of my DACs, etc.  A real pain.  This isn't great, but I think it is the easiest way, because the symphonic pieces we do often have tempo and time signature changes, and the metronome just natively handles all that, and when it is for video, I typically just import the prerecorded audio that the video was set to as a tempo guide.  I think it is a real shame that SONAR makes what could be so elegant and simple so hard.
