Rethink the Bus Pane concept and allow moving Busses into the Track Pane area.

Being able to have an aux bus next to a group of tracks that are assigned to it is a very handy and powerful tool.  You can use it in many ways.  Once you have worked with this ability, it is like being handcuffed when you no longer have the ability to do it and have to open the Bus Pane or Bus area in the Console view.

Maybe it could be limited to dragging an Aux that is created in the Bus Pane into the Track Pane.  This way it will feel normal for people who aren't accustom to this feature and it won't complicate matters like having to establish if you are creating a normal track (audio and midi) or an Aux track when you insert a track.

+1 - This has been asked for previously in one form or another. Dave's suggestion to drag an Aux from the bus pane into the track pane is a good one.

While waiting for this to be implemented, it is possible to get a similar result by adding a track in the project with a plug-in like the Sonitus Gate, monitor the side chain input and route the other tracks to it.

This is the work around that some are using for parallel processing tracks. In that sort of situation it is so much better to have the aux side by side with the original.  What I would wish for is for someone to create a temporary plugin that has no other processing in it other to tap into the sidechain.  I might reach out to my friend at EarReckon and see if I can beg him to look at that.

Do you have a link to that thread discussing this technique?  I was trying to find it the other day and couldn't.  Maybe the Sonitus Gate might be a good key word to use.

I don't think the Gate does much without an incoming signal but it would be nice to have a simpler plug-in which just does the routing.

A big +1. What I'd like to see in particular is a fully flexible sectioning setup with default behavior exactly as is. Ideally what we'd be able to do is move tracks and buses from section to section, and even create new sections. Default behavior would be just as things are now (tracks in a track section, buses in a bus section) so that existing users wouldn't have a whole new system, but with the option to move anything anywhere and, if desired, even create new mixer sections. It'd be really cool to have my auxes in one section, my "stem" buses in another, my drum tracks in another section with an associated drum bus, and my two snare mics (or ac git mics or whatever) feeding a bus right next to the two tracks the clips are on.

A really important part of this idea is that the mixer sections should continue being independently scrollable (just as the current mixer sections are), so I can keep a particular set of tracks/buses/aux's in view while scrolling a different mixer section. Ideally each section would be "hidable" as well.

Nice...   I like the idea of creating movable section dividers with the ability to drag and drop tracks into each section as needed.

This would be good, especially with some options. I toggle and resize the bus pane very often as a result of needing to iso certain tracks and their sends. A custom view that only showed a selected track and ALL the tracks it sends/routes to would also be awesome.

But, since we're talking about routing options, a splitter/merger Pro Channel module (like Reason) would be just so amazing.

When I use Pro Tools it drives me crazy that I CAN'T separate the bus and tracks with a divider so I'm definitely not for combining everything into one window by default. I do think it would be potentially be cool if you could customize and move a bus into the track area and vise versa... as long as you could make adding tracks default to where you want them to show up.

Track folders as BUSes.

Move a track into the folder and it goes to the bus. Sorta a shortcut.

It would be great to have the option to move buses freely or to "lock" them into the bus pane as is.  I like to have all main instrument buses (drums, guitars, vocals, etc.) organized to the left of the master bus, then all effects buses on the right of the master channel, so for the most part Sonar's structure works for me.  However, as mentioned earlier, when doing parallel processing on channels, it would be so nice to put that right next to the track being processed instead of cluttering up the bus pane.  One option would be to clone a track, apply the effects, then adjust the volume of that track to get the parallel processing chain, but using a send level is (in my opinion) a little more efficient and doesn't require track grouping once the desired dry/processed balance has been set.

I'd love to have the ability to use both when I wish.

For many things I prefer different scenarios as I've worked with both and personalized my use of such when I can...

BTW... I'm miffed that I can't remember the name of the plugin, but someone on our forum created a plugin that maintains stereo identity and allows sending from one track into another... Using the sidechain feature I believe...

I hope someone can find that recent thread... I'm very disorganized these days... Sorry...

Thanks Steve...

Too many senior moments lately...

I already have two copies of it in my dropbox, but couldn't remember the filename and sadly couldn't remember silktone's name either...

My humble apology to him...

It would be so nice to be able to move busses to where you want them, like into track folders, so for instance have a folder for vocals, then all related tracks, busses & sends can be in that folder, rather than having to keep scrolling down to where the busses are. I don't know know about anyone else but this would be a massive thing for me personally.
