Rob[atSound-Rehab] Beautiful mix, cool synth and guitar work. Like that a lot. Only the quantised drums come across quite lifeless and impassionate. That tune with a real drummer and bass player, that'll be really cool ... anyway, real drummers with superb timing usually don't live next door, so I discovered that working the tempo grid in creative ways can help a lot to make it feel more organic and surprisingly the drum libs cope quite well if you feed them a farily flexible (yet subtle) timing variation
Thanks Rob! The drums were meant to be very mechanical in the beginning and during the first first, then things loosen up. May be that bothers you somewhat. Regards, Dan

synkrotron Excellent stuff Dan, seriously Very polished... Nice spectrum of sounds used throughout. Loved the lead synth sound Composition of the song is really interesting. Mix sounds really well balanced and I can pick up on everything that is going on. Will this be going on an album at some point? Or are you continuing to build up a collection of singles at Bandcamp? cheers andy
Thanks Andy! Nope, no album in the works. On Bandcamp, you can get all of my tracks for a reduced bundle price if that interests you. Regards, Dan

ramscapri Awesome piece Dan ! Loved the smooth yet assertive flow of the track. The lead true to its name, led the track really well. I just thought that a few sounds/fills here and there felt slightly out of tune. But I guess that might have been deliberate for creative variation or probably just my ears
Thanks Ramesh! Or me with the S88's pitch slider. I did a few really slooowww bends in this. There is also a bit where I pulled the whammy bar on my strat... Regards, Dan

mgh great stuff of course. some really cool mixing tricks and the subtle harmonic shifts in the backing sections are genius. the only thing i would change is aroudn 2'15, when the guitars come in under the lead, i'd pull back some of the verb/delay on the lead then, and beef up the guitar
Thanks Mark! Hmm, I'll have to experiment more with that guitar part as it seems folks want it bigger. Regards, Dan

this is a way cool tune!
nice arrangment, nice sense of space and dynamics...... all the chosen 'sounds' and tones are really sweet.. have to agree with the one comment about the snare, it's not the best choice of sound for this particular song... and i've very confused, other folks keep talking about the 'guitars', but i don't hear any guitars!! ???? just keys..... what am i missing here? still, no matter, really cool tune dan

Bob Oister Hi, Dan, Wow, this is truly excellent all the way around! Well written and played, nicely textured synth work with some really cool twists and turns, cool guitar stuff, and a stellar, pro sounding mix! The mix is crisp, wide and full sounding with a nice punch to the bottom end. Fantastic work, Dan, really outstanding! Bob

evadianepug I would expect no less than this fine piece! I can't tell what is real and what is Memorex. All so well played and of course the mix is pristine!

philz On the plus side the piece is overall excellent, as usual. I particularly liked the way it built up at the beginning. As a minor crit, I would agree with Scotty's comment that some more thematic changes would have been nice.
Thanks Phil! The buildup was a lot of fun to do, as was the big break in the middle. As I mentioned to Scotty, I wanted simple for this tune. Regards, Dan

stevec Wow, this is a bit different for you! It seems a bit more soundtrack-ish rather than orchestral/epic, and it works well. Really great dynamics from section to section, lots of interesting sounds swirling around, and that Omnisphere lead tone is anything but static. I think the whole thing is alive.
Thank you Steve! Yes, I love that lead! Regards, Dan

Thanks Bats! I am reworking the processing on the snare (started last night) to tighten it up and make it fit better. I still like the snare itself, but I think it could be better as well. As for the guitars, I think you are listening for lead guitars that aren't there. This song has a ton of rhythm and supporting guitars, but no leads. Regards, Dan

Thanks Olivier! For this mix, I had a submix running into Kramer Tape and blended that back into the master. I also pushed the clipper a bit to get some dirt in the overall mix. That might be what you are hearing, but I also wanted it to be LOUD...so there is a cost to that. Regards, Dan

Dan, this is a terrific song. The mix is everything I would expect from you. I particularly like the drums because they just sit so well in the mix. The key to this mix, for me, is the dynamics which elevates this song to a more cinematic approach. I'm so happy I got to hear this!

Great as always, Dan. I think this song works on every level. At the composition level, it unfolds and engages interest as each section comes into play. Love the very patient transition between sections. This is a piece that is easy to imagine as a track for an animation sequence. The instrumentation choices are excellent. At the engineering level, the mix is pristine and each instrument has its own space. That may be lost on the average listener, but the members of this board can easily recognize the wonderful craftsmanship that went into making this. Top drawer stuff all the way around.

Yeah, this sounds really great! Nice arrangement and mix. Actually this could also work well as a foundation for a song with vocals. ...not that there is anything missing like it is now, the lead part is carrying the song perfectly. Good stuff! Best regards, Daniel
