Road to Ruin

This is raw and unpolished? Ha! I may as well slit my wrists now and save myself the frustration! This sounds fantastic to me. Strings kill. Vocals are beautiful. What's not to like?

The keyboard parts were not written out. That is a Yamaha Motif XS rhodes at the beginning, a CLP170 piano throughout, and a string patch from Omnisphere.
You are correct, the violin is a little hot. The CD release ended up being a month earlier and in order to send the song to be duped, the mixing and mastering were rushed. Also the fact that the artist wanted everything bordering on raw compared to be being polished. Listening back to it now, a little tamer would have been nice.
The percussion at the beginning is a Djembe my son brought me back from Cote d' Voire. The drums are played by Mike Marrington -yes, real drums.
The nylon guitarist said "coolio" at the end of the song -kind of like "quite cool". The artist wanted to keep it.

Was the violin live?  It sure sounds good.  What genre would this be?   I'm mystified by the pan-oply of styles today .   This could even be a Nashville production; how it crosses over.

Live as in, "is that a real violinist?" Oh yes. But if you know any programs that can do that I would be very interested to hear about them. I think it might be classified as World, but I'm not sure.

Well, this needs a ton of work, which begins with getting it out there and heard, and ends with your performance at some well know arena. Did I mention a platinum record somewhere between. If not, an oversight on my part. Seeing this is far from finished, I am befuddled as to why are you wasting your time here and not out booking concerts and making a name for yourself? What were you doing with your time away? Must I scold you further? I shall not!
 
You have a wonderful track and tons of talent. I thank you for sharing your ear candy here and hope to hear more of the like. Great stuff-truly.

Yes , this song has a lot of great elements combined together to give this Music & song such a fresh unique sound .
Love all the instrument choices . All the players are very good players . Love the sounds of the world percussion combined with the acoustic guitars and violin ..
Aimee's voice is very good , she sounds head and shoulders above a lot of singers I have recently have heard... 
Rushed Mix or not Michael you always have the golden ear

Love it!. I don't know about classification, there are all sorts of influences in there, I would could say progressive with a small "p" but Good seems to fit best.

you know Glyn, I started to call it that and thought it wasn't quite progressive enough, so the small "p" fits pretty well. It's the only song on the CD like that though.

Kenny. I checked out Guitar Center Bonamassa Blues Master Submission -that was hot. Wish you were near.

Have to say I was completely surprised. From the title I was expecting some hard rock or metal, but was rewarded with a listening treat.
I would love to produce an "unpolished" track to sound as good as this.

What you call "unpolished", I call "real" and "human". The mix sounds very strong to me, without the overindulgences that Sonar can make seem too tempting.
