We have been told in the past by Cakewalk that as far as Roland are concerned, they just pay the bills & Cake are pretty much left to their own devices as far as product development goes. I'm 100% convinced that CW is a pretty small cog in the Roland machine, so they would probably not be bothered one bit about one of their forum members getting jittery about the continuation of future products.

Assuming Cakewalk is profitable there is a 100% probabliity that they will continue development. If they continue development I would think that their flagship product, Sonar, will remain high on their priority list. I do however wonder about some of their lessor products remaining viable. Lastly I sure do miss Brandon and Seth. Those guys rocked! Regards,

bitflipper Name another company that reveals all of its plans/secrets with the general public? Cockos. That's quite an interesting and fiercely dedicated group of users over there, in the pre-release community. It sure reduces the number of bugs which make it to the general releases - and those folks have a lot of input into the way features are implemented. And they don't get paid. Of course, that kind of development model takes away from the "new feature wow factor" when there is a new release. But those particular customers are not the "wow crowd". Not passing judgement though. I do like a little "wow" myself, but I am a little jealous. It is pretty nice to be able to interact with the developers.

I wonder how profitable Cakewalk can really be.
Daws are a niche market and there is some heavy competition. I would have thought that Roland bought Cakewalk to give its brand a daw, and that Cakewalk agreed to be bought because they weren't all that profitable (or were going under ?).
It seems that Roland has Cakewalk just in case one of its customers wants a daw and, for whatever reason, the customer wants to stick with Roland.

Rather than being too concerned about the current state, you, or someone else, should start a positive thread asking what we can do to make Sonar more popular and help Cakewalk acquire more new users. That's a good point. It's natural that a forum like this have a lot of negative post because people often visits forum when they have problems. But the overall vibe could be a little more positive so that we don't scare potential new users from buying Sonar. when I'm hunting for new software or gear, forums are one of the first places I start to look, and if I only find negative vibes, then I go somewhere else... So, to put in some positive vibes : I really like Sonar X2, the workflow suits me very well and the program feels stable for my use. (I admit that i'm not a pro, just a happy amateur)

Even assuming this is the end of the SONAR line, which I don't believe, why would Cakewalk say so? Sales would stop.

I agree, and I think the loss of these guys has added to some folks feeling of 'anxiety' about Sonar's future. I guess you've got to remember there are still some fine dudes working under the hood like Noel and Keith. Sure they're not as 'present' on the forums as Brandon and Seth were, but they do still post here and help out. All is fine the way I see it.

Sorry, I haven't been around a whole lot for a good while... Seth Perlstein got canned?? Wasn't he like... THE voice of Cakewalk? I'm sure I'm not the only one who felt like I knew Seth almost personally from all the vids he hosted over the years.

FWIW, Brandon didn't leave. He got a big promotion. Brandon is the Group Strategy Manager at Roland. BTW, Roland's stock is rallying this month. The stock buy backs and the lay offs seem to have gotten some attention. The year end fiscal report will be out in about 2 weeks and we'll see if the rise in stock value is actually market driven or if it was just tweaked to coincide with all the early retirement pay outs. best regards, mike
