SE Reflection filters????
Do any of you guys own one ? I thought I would ask about and see what you guys who do own them have them attached to When I first bought mine I attatched it to a good quality mic stand but it was far to heavy and I didnt feel safe haveing it on there it wobbled about with the slightest touch and its not something you would want crashing to the floor. Has any one else come in to this same problem ? I know they make a stand that holds it but it costs £250!!!!!! Thats a crazzy price and to be honest it wasnt doing that good ajob of holding the relection filter there was still that look that it didnt look safe on it. I started to think hmmmmm what could I do I came up with this solution that If any one who is haveing this problem may like to try I bought a very cheep PA speeker stand for £20 got a bit of Square metal bar cut at about 12inches I then hemmerd it in to the top of the stand and it was solid! ( gave it a couple of tac welds just to be sure though but I am sure it would have been ok with out it ) I then atatched the Clamp from the SE reflection filter to the Square metal bar siting out the top of the stand and it sits with no movement at all!!!!! You can then move the The stand up and down with ease depending on what hight the person seing it is...... ITS AWESOME COST £20 TO BUILD IT WILL NEVER FALL OVER EVER!!! AND COSTS NOTHING LIKE THE £250 SE WANT FOR THERE CHEEP ASS STAND!!! Anyways I was interested to see if you guys have come across anything your self to mount it to to make it safe and stable ? If any one is interested in what I did I can show some pics for you to make your own :) Norrie

I have one, and yes it was a bit difficult to mount properly. Ultimately I came up with the idea of mounting it on an overhead boom stand, but on the vertical part of the stand. I bought a mini-boom and attached it to the end of a regular boom (the one that came with the stand extends too far), mounted them on the top of the stand, and pointed it down and at an angle. Next I put my FD Tranzport on the end of the boom. So I have the reflexion filter with its bracket and a microphone mounted (right now I have a Mojave MA-200 on it) and the Tranzport is just below and easy to reach while I'm singing. I have a picture of it but damned if I know how to get a picture to show up on this forum. Okay so I lied. It works pretty well this way. Paul

That looks nice too, and was probably a bit cheaper than my setup. On the other hand I already had the overhead stand from my old studio, and it is too big for this room (unfortunately newer, bigger house, but smaller studio space, go figure). About the only thing you would like is that the base on the overhead boomstand has wheels. I move it into the center of the room when tracking, and back against the wall when idle. Space restrictions require it. Paul

I know the feling man I dont have much room hear eather. I picked up a speeker stand for £20 and got the bit of metal from my local welders and that was that. I also made a nice adapterif I take the reflection filter off Slide Slide a Tube I had made with a flat plate on it over the top of It and on the plate is I have attached a thread that I can then attatch My AER compact 60 amp on since the amps are made to go on mic stands it seemed a good Idea and is a lot safer to incase some one bashes in to it :) Norrie

Reflexion Filter is basically a portable device for recording live sound sources with minor ambient atmosphere. This is an advanced composite wall which is positioned behind a microphone stand blocking the;changing role, the composition is supplied with the product.

Thanks for your post we know what they are....... This was just a conversation about how we mount out refliection fiters as they are heavy and novery safe on just a standard Mic stand and the one that SE sell is over priced and not very safe for the job compared to what Jungfriend and my self have done I was just interested to see others experiances in mounting it...... Thanks though :) Norrie

Norrie, I like my Reflexion filter, but there are other products out there that might pique your interest. I have been seriously considering trading my Reflexion filter for the Portable Vocal Booth from www.editorkeys.com. The reason why is that the Portable Vocal Booth not only reduces standing waves and early reflections, but it also rejects exterior noise. Now that is their claim and the proof won't come until I test it, but it is something I need due to my racket loving neighbors who think nothing of firing up the lawnmower, power washer, or any other kind of power tool any old time of day. At $152 it is definitely less expensive than soundproofing, and a lot less work. You can see the extra layer of foam that is inside, and darn if it doesn't look a lot like the Relexion Filter, so it should mount just the same. I don't think the girl comes with it. Paul

dlogan Here is another alternative product for $99 - anyone have experience with this? http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/VoxGuard/ There is a lot of bad things being said about this type of product in the likes of sound on sound mag if you read it ? Its something to do with the foam just not being enough to do the job right and that reflection filter have got it right everything else in a lot of peoples eyes is just a cheep alternative that will not do as good a job I cant comment personaly though as I have the reflection filter and never used another product although I may just buy the Portable Vocal Booth from www.editorkeys.com And YES I shall be demanding the lassy n the picure is supplyed with the booth.... Your more than welcome to then buy the booth from me but not the lass she looks like a keeper ;)

Now that is their claim and the proof won't come until I test it, I would seriously doubt that it reduces exterior noise that much. Just by looking at it and knowing a bit about how sound travels I'd think that it's not going to be that great. But I'd love to be proven wrong!

This is the first time I've been to Huntington Beach and the first time I've been to the WWCC facility and met the team here. All I can say is WOW Gold level, what a team! They really have a fantastic set of Buy WOW Gold and staff here — incredibly dedicated and always smiling. They’ve welcomed me with open arms and it is a pleasure to work with every single one of them. I am off to check on Buy Aion Gold mallards, but stay tuned for a post with an update on search and collection efforts! By the way, welcome to our WOW Power Leveling.

I've been using one of these AE-F Reflection Filter I got off ebay a while ago I don't know if they still sell them there but it's been working nicely and I got it pretty cheap too. I'm not much of a singer singer! but I do like screaming my vocals over my bands music. Mines a greyish silver and the foam is like the one of the ends of that I guess that's their new one but I'm really pleased with it.

IDK, those things seem limiting to a certain extent to me. All mics will react differently due to proximity effect, etc. I also find I want to use the room as an effect on certain songs. My room is pretty crappy, but mic placement and creative use of blankets and other objects have yeilded good results for me. I can see it being useful to block noisy computer noise, etc; but sometimes just turning the mic can do the same thing. For the kind of money those things go for, I'd personally rather buy a new musical instrument or something!

Norrie - if weight/load distribution is worrying you - check out SOS. Unsurprisingly, both Paul White & Hugh Robjohns also found this to be a problem and they worked out a way to apply a simple mod to the SE Hardware so that the centre of balance changed, making the whole thing a lot more mechanically stable. If I get a chance, I'll try and do a search.
