Heh... agreed. I was just poking fun. My diet mostly consists of painkillers and beer. But you didn't really show your system... unless your DAW is that little Acer. That doesn't seem right. ???

Seriously if you are able to run X1 on that Acer I'm curious how you did it. I'm on a little Acer Aspire right now and if I can cram X1 onto I'd be all over that. I'm only at 1.3GHz and 3GB DDR3 but man would it be great to just do simple stuff on this thing that I can toss onto the big rig. Cheers.

Right now this is my rig...the little ACER ONE has windows 7 ultimate and SONAR 8.5.3 and X1...once I start using intensive effects or synths I have to start freezing tracks but it's a great little portable station along with my AKAI LPK25 which isn't in the picture!

That's really cool, man. But what's the RAM and CPU specs on it? I know my Acer is WAY below recommended specs for X1 but as you said, by freezing tracks and other tricks I might be able to get some basic tasks done on it. I finally have a decent USB interface so I'd like to give it a try. Cheers.

BTW I was intending on using Reaper on this system for that stuff as it is supposed to be a lower footprint but if I can stay within the Sonar realm it would obviously be way easier and I wouldn't have to learn a completely different platform.

it's a dual core 1.6ghz 1 gig ram...works great I got it at Walymart for $230.00...I love this little guy!!!

I've adjusted the registry so the screen resolution is up from 1024x600 to 1152x864 oversampled display, this really helped fit the SONAR interface on the screen. - Shawn

Mr. Beepster, assuming you don't take to many pills with beer, you should be able to run SONAR on that netbook with no problems, I had a 500mhz machine that ran SONAR just fine. HAVE FUN! and if you want to know how to get Win7 Ultimate for FREE installed on your machine and how to up the screen rez let me know!

Question about what appears to be an Akai LPK25:

I have both the LPK25 and an M-Audio KeyRig 49.  I keep the KeyRig plugged into the front USB port of my rack mount PC for most quick routine keyboard jobs.  However, I would like to use the LKP25 during vocal sessions: have it right next to the console to queue notes or show singers parts.

Problem is that it works off and on: mostly off.  Lately when I plug it in, Sonar doesn't recognize it.  is it plug and play, or do I have to dig around and try to find whatever installation disk came with it to do a reinstall?

Have you ever had any trouble getting Sonar to recognize or enable it in Preferences?  is there any trick I should know about?  It is a very cool little keyboard and ideal for lots of things (like bass).

    Hey Shawn,
I have the exact same netbook. Can you explain what steps you took to up the resolution from 1024x600 to 1152x864. I would love to use my little netty at that resolution!

    Cheers,

Have you moved all checked devices to top  in the midi preferences panel?

Thanks so much for the info, Shawn. I'm definitely gonna give it a try. Some people in the computer world poop on Acer but almost every one I've worked with has been just great and their prices are well below others in the same class. I figured what you had looked like a netbook. I went for a full sized laptop from a box store. After taxes it ended up costing about $300. I think it was actually a pricing error on the part of the box store. Heheh... *zoinks* Hasn't let me down yet and if I can get Sonar on I will be MORE than impressed. Cheers!

I don't have a camera. Don't have much to show anyway. Currently I just have my tower set up with both my Scarlett 18i6 and Layla 3G sitting on top of it. An LG flat panel, qwerty/mouse (I gotta figure out why my Kensington trackball stopped working) and my new Sennheiser HD-280s. And that's it. Everything else, even my Mackie monitors, are all stashed away in various corners because I don't have room on my desk with all the other crap on here (like this laptop and my old XP/Nuendo DAW). It's fine for working through tutorials and stuff though.
